I have to admit some of the guys in the irc chat just started taking Guy seriously when he realized he was getting hit with ambiguous setups.

Dont focus attack trying to bait something out when you arent near him, not a very smart idea.

Punish his wall dives with jump back Fierce or TK Izuna, learn the timing it’ll help a lot!

If you manage to land a stun, Go for bigger combos, had you switched your NJ mk to NJ HP your cr HP would have connected, or you could have done a deep nj mk

Add some run/stop pressure, and crouch techs to avoid getting grabbed, a good vega player will be trying to grab you a lot if he gets a KD on you or using wall dive.

Anti Air I believe both cr.mp and mk can be used.

I’m sure K1 has a write up for Vega somewhere. He also plays Vega so ask him about the matchup if you need more insight.

actually… cr. strong and cr. forward are not reliable anti airs against vega. his j. fierce will beat cr. forward clean and cr. strong can trade at best. guy’s normals don’t work too well against vega as an anti air… you’re probably gonna have to burn the meter for ex hurricane or EX tk izuna to anti air him.

also… you can cr. forward vega’s walldives for free along with jump back fierce.

@RisoN-work on your hit confirms… you can hit confirm into ff chain just fine… but after the stun when you did nj. forward, cr. fierce > st. strong xx EX shoulder… the cr. fierce got blocked but you did the ex shoulder anyway. i noticed in your other vid you posted a while back you did TC xx run slide on block also. run slide and ex shoulder are not safe on block.

just a few quick pointers…

  1. Vega shouldnt be jumping in on you very much, if at all. The only reason he should would be to go for his jump in BnB (which has a 1 frame link in it) consisting of j.hp > cl.st.hp ~cr.mp xx EX Walldive. just save at least a bar in case he tries to jump in on you.

  2. Vega’s walldives are easily evaded by cr.hk. cr.mk will beat them out if he lands anywhere near you, EXCEPT if he comes down right on top of you. I suggest simply doing cr.hk or jump back izuna (it works wonders).

  3. Just remember vega has NO crossup. you should never ever have to guess which direction to block

  4. A lot of Vega players like to do his command overhead (f.mk) > grab as a tick setup. just make sure youre teching.

  5. after landing a cosmic heel (df.hk) vega has 2 options. 1) combo with HK/EX Scarlet Terror or EX Walldive. 2) Reset.
    If he resets you, it now puts you in a 3 way guessing game. He can go for a cr.mp/cr.mk to combo into EX Walldive, he can go for the overhead that you wont be expecting, or he can simply grab you. crouch teching will beat two of those. Just be careful if he decides to cr.lp > scarlet terror. scarlet terror will blow up your crouch tech attempt.

as im sure you know, Vega is pretty free on wakeup, just keep that pressure applied until he has U2 stocked, then stop jumping in. its important to be patient vs vega. he’s going to land his blockstrings, theres no stopping that. just dont try and throw out something out. youll get counter hit every time. just learn when you can backdash / jump out of his strings.

Haven’t watched the 3rd match but loved the armor cancel/ex bushin flip at the end of the second there. So dope!

Heh yeah I’ve been using armour cancel U1 a bit more recently but my armour cancel execution is still iffy and I definitely can’t do it with U2 in a real match.

It’s definitely something you can’t abuse on wakeup though,I started doing it alot to my friend(the cody player) and he caught on and eventually started either neutral jumping causing the EX run to whiff or doing meaty zonk on wakeup to break the armour.

Maybe it’s something to keep in mind if you recognize that your opponent likes to do meaty normals.It’s great to pull out in the clutch or unexpectedly.

This is just a bonus video of RB showing and explaining a Guy combo on the show.The combo isn’t anything new but it made me realize just how damaging it is.I might use it in future after a one hit stun or something.The combo does about 500 damage!RB looks kinda pissed when Gamerbee is showing off his golden stick at the beginning lol.

Good stuff I always enjoy watching him play.

Some odds and ends… I like how srk seems to refuse to put my videos on the front page, yet posts videos they say is nothing new. I guess srk still mad at me how I talked about the rigging etc eh? Oh well.

man i don’t know how you find some of the stuff you find. the reversal bushin flips to escape the crossup attempts. are those character specific or will they work on all or a majority/minority of the cast?

also… when doing bushin flip to escape the crossup hurricane… do you have to input it the way you had in the description of the video with qcf, d+PP?

Well I havn’t played the game a large amount but what I have played using a regular bushin flip to get out of cross ups is pretty realistic and I do do it. There are some distances where it won’t work. I mean its not invincible of course, but it is pretty generous for what it is. And works much more then you’d think. Although note when I have played the game the majority of the time its vs shotos(go figure? … )… but I know there are some regularly used set ups from say other characters that it doesn’t work all the time vs. I just used the cross up air hurricane kick mid screen, because it was easy to show me doing it like a mix up, one time doing the hp bushin flip to run away. And one time to do the jab to stay on top of the guy. So sorta to show how it can be fun/tricky.

For the cross up hurricane kick no, you don’t have to input it that way. Only time you do that is when you are using getting up vs a safe cross up jump cuz of how guy hit box is smaller right when he stands if he does nothing or ducks, rather then tries to block…

Although note like I said realistically its more useful for a regular bushin flip, as theres a bug in the game where if you were to time it right when a guy is straight above you a bug can happen and you wont get any move and you’ll just get hit. No flash waste of meter or anything. You just get hit. lol shrug…

at 1:30… i thought he did an option select sweep… but looking at his inputs… he actually just either anticipated the teleport or reacted to it. great reactions to crossup teleports as well. kiryu no doubt knows this matchup extremely well.
