One thing i noticed is that kiryu seems to pass on the super a lot. Even when it’d give him the win. Probably just has the muscle memory down for going into the slide, but in several matches(which he won anyway) it would’ve been over had he done shoulder xx Super.
Every elbow drop or bushin elbow were not punished.

This video is absolutely terrible. I only won because I was either really lucky or really random. SLICK RICK won (what felt like) twenty matches, and the match in this video is the only one that I won. Watch out for that dirty nj.HP setup from Honda. I got caught by it quite a few times and lost about 1/4 of my life bar each time.

SaBrE mindraped me throughout this entire match. In the second round, I got some offense going, but I quickly got mindraped again. I guess this match up probably falls under the category of “rush the opponent down before he / she rushes you down.”

I have to admit that I only won this match because I took advantage of shenanigans. I’ve recently started using Forward Throw > Jump Forward > EX Bushin Flip, and it’s effective against characters without invincible wake up options. If you delay (for any small amount of time) the EX Bushin Flip after jumping forward, Guy will not be able to grab the opponent.
I still need to work on playing smarter and playing more consistently. I’m too streaky (pun intended) sometimes.
One thing you never did against Cody, is cr mk. his Crack kick when he had you locked down, that would have helped you escape and throw off his pressure once you see it. Remember this

In your second round vs honda you had a nice life lead but lost it trying to get in…which was odd. I mean honda’s a defensive nightmare and loves it when people come to him, so if you’ve got a nice lead like that you’re probably better just sitting down and waiting for him. Air approaches can be EX air grabed and if you block a headbutt he eats an EX shoulder. Also it’s probably muscle memory but Blocked TC flip isn’t great to begin with, but it’s even worse against a down/back charge character who’s never going to be standing.
on cody: I think bushin flip, especially EX, is a gimmick, but one that should be thrown out a bit more. Especially vs cody it’s not too bad to use since his options are limited, and in my shit level play i can usually bait DP’s by dropping the elbow instantly if i do it after a shoulder or tatsu.
That said at about 1:20 in the second cody vid you land a non EX flip grab after an EX shoulder. Would that have grabbed crouching or did he just stand up?
All that said i’m still a huge scrub so if you feel i’m wrong you’re probably right. Just some stuff that popped out at me.
Eiji, He got him in the 1 frame, you can do that with all the versions of Bushin flip, just EX bushin is a lot easier because you arent limited on distance as opposed to others.

After watching it again, you’re right: if I sat back and let Honda come to me, I might have had a better shot at winning that round. Though, SLICK RICK had me mindraped all fifteen or twenty matches before that one. Everytime I had a life lead, I’d watch it disappear when I tried to turtle up a bit. I guess in that round, I decided to try to off Honda as fast as I could.
Again, I don’t usually do Bushin Flip after a blocked st.MP or Target Combo. I was trying to mix it up to maybe land some lucky damage because nothing (at least, that’s what it felt like) was working against him.
If I had played a longer set against SaBrE, you would’ve seen me do Bushin Flip > Elbow Drop a lot more after a knockdown to bait something. I do it all the time against Sagat. In the third round, I’ll admit that I landed a lucky Bushin Flip Grab when SaBrE did back + MP.
At 1:20 in the second video, I messed up the timing. You can clearly see Cody stand up. However, if you do Forward Throw > Jump Forward > EX Bushin Flip, it will grab them on the one frame that the opponent is considered standing during their wake up animation. It probably won’t work against Adon because he gets up faster than everyone else.
at 1:38… its possible to safe jump after bushin flip grab?..
Is the crack kick the little hop kick that whiffs if youre crouching?Because yeah like you said cr.mk is a really good escape from this.Its practically the only way to safely break away from cody st.mp,cr.lp/tick throw pressure.

^I agree.In general people talk Guy down or dont take him too seriously.I dont know if its on purpose or not but often commentators cant even say anything insightful about Guy.Often the extent of their knowledge is “Oh Bushin flip,you have to crouch those,otherwise its 200 damage!”.
I’ve never heard anyone explain run stop pressure and even when a player like combofiend sets up his trademark ambiguous Guy cross ups they dont bother explaining it.

@Cheech-yea seriously… i remember watching something with viscant commentating… and he was like… why do people keep getting hit by that crossup… i wanted to yell at him like… because if you do it right and mix in command elbows it’s a 50/50 to try and block the crossup or the elbow. you’re right all people say stuff about is the flip grab doing a ton of damage. no one really says anything about guy’s pressure game… it’s pretty silent during guy matches from commentators other than “OHH MYY GOD” when people are getting run stop pressured by guy in long pressure strings.
the reason a lot of people don’t take guy seriously is because those are the people that are paying too much attention to tier lists. in all honesty… when i look at guy… he’s a character that down the line… is going to get extremely better because he’s about knowing your matchups… in a year… when people really know what to do against his matchups… he’s gonna be a monster. the way i look at him is the way i see cvs2 guile… i remember seeing in some japanese tier lists guile was ranked as high-mid along with geese and honda because he was one of the characters who if played right was extremely difficult to deal with.
^^ i completely agree about Guy being slept on heavily. as maestro said, in a year, me, him, losha, lauwda, combofiend, papatiwawa, Eddy, etc are going to be MONSTERS (pshhh as if were not already…jk )
