LA county is literally the highest population county in the US. Of course it has more cases and deaths, it has more people period.

Sure, but it’s been very locked down. So saying it’s all Trumpers, it’s all dumb southerners, etc, is silly because it’s not and we have one of the states that has locked down the hardest setting death records almost a year in.
Faulty guidance from government at the start and when the course was corrected, the citizens weren’t really following it that well.
LA stopped lockdown early summer and people stopped giving a shit. So basically all summer and the winter holidays CoVid ran rampant.
Didn’t they start locking down again around Thanksgiving? Either way, everyone I know in LA says that the place has been locked down still even though things relaxed a bit.
The point of the lockdowns is to slow the rate that people end up needing to be in the ER. It isn’t to prevent the absolute number of deaths from CoVid, but to prevent the hospitals from being overwhelmed by all the CoVid victims dying at once.
So the point to doing the lockdowns again is that they don’t want to end up in a situation where all the people who would have lived if they had gotten an ICU bed end up dying because the ICU beds are filled with CoVid patients.
Most countries in the West are also getting bodied by Covid. Right now we have a curfew in my province, can’t go outside past 8pm until 5am. We’ve been wearing masks everywhere for almost 6 months as mandated by law, washing hands before we enter closed public spaces and yet Covid is still bodying us.
A lot of countries in Europe are also getting bodied by Covid pretty fucking hard right now.

Australia and New Zealand masked up and forced people inside for 8 months and they were celebrating new years
They also had very little immigration or really any vacationers.
America had so many super spreader events.

And in a world with populists in charge in uk and brazil and even japan we see how shit fails when you cater to specific groups and put profit over people.
The west and Europe decided to travel and have large family gatherings during the holidays.
Lots of travelers returning home, CoVid goes buck wild.
