Man, this might be an unpopular opinion, but I donā€™t know if impeachment is the best course of action right now. Seems itā€™s going to pour gasoline on the flames of division. Trump should absolutely be held accountable and prosecuted for his actions, but an impeachment this close to him leaving the presidency seems a little retributive instead of seeking justice, because of the circumstances of him leaving in a week.

I imagine there are other actions that could be taken, like a special council to investigate his role in the insurrection, after the transition takes place. The last thing we need right now is more violence and impeachment feels like itā€™s going to lead us there. Besides, what are the chances of it resulting in a conviction in the Senate? I know McConnell has been hinting at it being a means to separate the GOP from Trump, but it seems like a tall order for it to actually succeed.

Although I will admit itā€™s pretty fucking funny that the motherfucker will be the only President in US history to be impeached twice

Listening to this dude from WI talking about manufacturing staying in the US. Hell a lot of those businesses got money during this administration and still bolted.

Perhaps, but this sets a precedent. He earned this.

I said it before, they stormed a federal building with 2 through 4 in the POTUS line of succession. Accountability must be had.

It is a no win situation. They donā€™t impeach and his followers think Trump won and is above it all or they do the right thing and he canā€™t run again and they are mad and could resort to violence.

I feel at least this way you get to know which GOP members are truly corruptā€¦

Listening to Rep. Clydeā€™s statement, I donā€™t totally disagree but the world got to watch it in real time. What else is needed for an investigation.

Walt Disney Co. Suspends Contributions to Lawmakers Who Objected to Election Certification

ā€œThe insurrection at our nationā€™s Capitol was a direct assault on one of our countryā€™s most revered tenets: the peaceful transition of power,ā€ a Disney spokesperson said, according to Deadline.

ā€œIn the immediate aftermath of that appalling siege, Members of Congress had an opportunity to uniteā€”an opportunity that some sadly refused to embrace. In light of these events, we have decided we will not make political contributions in 2021 to lawmakers who voted to reject the certification of the Electoral College votes,ā€ the spokesperson added.

Similarly, the Motion Picture Associationā€™s executive vice president Patrick Kilcur said in a statement that the MPA is ā€œshocked and saddened by the horrific events at the U.S. Capitol last weekā€ and have thus ā€œdecided to suspend for the foreseeable future all contributions to Members of Congress who voted to challenge the certification of the votes of the Electoral College.ā€

If they successfully impeach and then find him guilty at the Senate trial (which wonā€™t happen until after the new members of Senate are seated), they have the option of barring him from ever holding office again.

I know this is worn out butā€¦

Not holding Trump accountable for inciting the mob, and causing the deaths of 5 Americans, would give the impression that this is asshole is above the law and is the very anointed God President they view as!!

If thereā€™s any consolation Yā€™all Quaeda were going to cause violence anyway, as anything short of Trump not remaining in office after Jan 20th is unacceptable in their eyes!!

Iā€™m not advocating for not holding him responsible. Iā€™m just wondering if there are other avenues beyond impeachment to do so. Timing is just off right now since heā€™s leaving office anyway, and the impeachment process will be a distraction during the Biden transition.

I think the impeachment keeps him from running again in 2024 among other things

If she moves closer to center with some of her ideas, she could get a lot of people on board.

This is exactly why this needs to happen. Initially, I did think that letting him go on to finish his term would have been fine. However, by doing so, removes accountability for a politicianā€™s words.

High crimes and misdemeanor is where they think this lands. This is the ā€œbestā€ course at the moment.

Also, itā€™s funny as hell to see the GOP politicians talk about ā€œhealing the nationā€ while they let ā€œTrump be Trumpā€. This isnā€™t a damn sitcom.
