They can still clap Trump for this.
I just want this fool to not get the post-Presidency package.

I speculate the problem is in these corporations actions betraying their statements.

The question is, when will the general public have had it’s share of lip service and table scraps?

Speaking of bold Trump promises, whatever happened to his plan to inject the black community with $500B? Interesting how once the election was over, we never heard a peep from him about it. It’s almost like he doesn’t actually care.

Wasn’t that one of his re-election ransom points? Along with a $2,000 relief payment if re-elected. Shady either way.

Honors are earned, not given.
And Trumpo long since blew his chances.

There a very low bar to not get a Traditional military farewell, and instead of jumping that hurdle, Trumpo decided to play limbo.

The only 21 gun salute Trumpo would get is the firing squad.

Yes, he said he would do it if he was reelected. That’s how you can tell he’s full of shit, because if he truly cared about the black community, he would be pushing for it even if he lost because it’s in the best interest of the black community. But alas, he lost the election, and ever since then he has done practically nothing else but try to push the fraudulent election narrative. :man_shrugging:

I just came here to say I was hoping Porter would continue being on the finance committee. She became one of the few politicians that I have even an ounce of trust for since she would go after everyone in pharma and finance. Her being taken off the committee as our economy begins to repair itself over the coming years is a huge disservice to consumer interests.

There’s one thing that associates the Trumper half of the Republican party with the Progressive half of the Democratic party: a common feeling that traditional politics and “establishment” politicians have failed, which I think is a feeling that might be shared by a lot of people.

This may end up playing in the Democrats’ favour in the short to medium term.
Trumpers take their disillusionment with traditional politics to Trump cultism (who is the “outsider” to politics that will magically fix stuff and drain the swamp in their view), conspiracy theories (which fill a similar role to Trump’s) and a virulent hate for anything perceived as left-wing even when it’s basically center-right stuff. The Republican establishment at this point is as reviled as Democrats by hardcore Trumpers, and the Republican establishment itself has reacted by trying to appease to this radicalized base because it brings them votes and they’re afraid of dying off if they don’t pander to the crazies.

On the other hand Progressives take their disillusionment toward alternative politics, Bernie Sanders, a more critical approach toward Capitalism (hence the popping up of a few “Democratic Socialist” politicians) and social justice shit that ranges from reasonable to nonsensical garbage. Loony ideas are therefore pretty present in that group too, but overall the Progressive bunch seems much more capable of coming up with policies and ideas that are somewhat workable, and once tempered by the Democratic establishment can lead to a cohesive and reasonable political platform. And thanks to the recent wave of violence Progressive and establishment Democrats just got a reason to stick together and keep infighting to a minimum since the feeling right now is that Democracy is at stake.

There’s a shared feeling of distrust toward traditional politics that provoked the growth of new political movements calling for some kind of decisive change, but within the Republican party this movement seems to have degenerated into Trump’s divisive rhetoric that’s divisive for divisiveness’ sake and the crazies that assaulted Congress, resulting in a situation that might lead to the fracturing of the Republican party or its descend into radicalism, while within the Democratic party it led to the development of a political group that might accomplish something.

I think we’ve outgrown the system as it stands and the best move would be to declare political “bankruptcy,” get rid of all the establishment types, and start over. I can think of a few alternatives I think would be better but they all involve cutting down on the number of people making decisions.

The Republican party may be headed toward an effective bankruptcy at this rate, with their lack of leaders and with the bitter divide between Trumpers and establishment Republicans.

The most ideal development in the long term that is also somewhat realistic in my opinion would be for the Trumper movement to just crash, burn and disappear since it’s nothing but an expression of popular resentment and hate that doesn’t bring anything constructive to the table and only increases polarization, for the establishment wings of both Democrats and what’s left of the Republicans to eventually coalesce into a new moderate conservative party (since moderate Democrats are basically just Conservatives who are okay with minorities and LGBT), and then for the progressive Democrats to make their own new party too once they’ve matured enough politically. Then have a two-party system with these two forces.

In that way you’d have new forces promoting new policies while also being tempered by a party of actual moderates and conservatives. We’re very far from anything like that though, and who knows what will happen to the Republicans in the future anyway.

Meh, there are other divides that will keep moderate Republicans and moderate Democrats separate. They’ve gerrymandered a false urban/rural dichotomy and built a culture war around it. And Republican voters are still extremely loyal to the party at the state and local levels.

In other news, I always found this one hilarious because Italy can barely keep it’s own government together:

Italians are exactly of the same opinion.
