With the GOP’s base in this state you may want to be sure to vote in the 2022 midterm, because if they keep up with that attitude and the party leaders follow them then a Republican controlled Congress in 2024 may just decide to ignore the votes altogether and appoint a Republican president like they tried and couldn’t this time.

Talking to a friend of mine who’s a nurse. He said that the hospital is doing everything they can to keep some beds open for Sunday because they expect violence at the state house.

Because Trump’s base is not a bunch of poor rednecks, the majority of his base are blue collar workers who make good money.
But if you’re talking about poor rednecks it’s simple, he’s not politically correct, he’s kind of vulgar for a politician, he talks a bunch a shit against journalists and also he speaks in a direct way, gets to the point with no bullshit which is compatible with blue collar culture.
And yes they might vote against their economic interests but who gives a shit a bunch of people do that like rich celebrities who want higher taxes.
You can throw in hostility toward outsiders and Mexicans, simpathy toward authority, overt racism and all that. People can’t fanthom that some people might vote against their immediate interest.

The Capitol police that had good intentions of properly doing their jobs were put in a really shitty position. They were outnumbered 1000 to 1 and shooting the rioters would have just made things worse for them. Not unreasonable they didn’t start shooting people. Now if they had proper backup, riot gear, and support, I’m certain they would’ve shot all these protestors with rubber bullets and tear gas to keep them off of the US Capitol building.
