The Political Thread 2021

Not buying this.

Americans voted for Barack Obama note once, but twice. DNC and American left messaging has been very pro-minority since 2012, so a legitimate push for Yang is a positive to that base (despite the establishment tulpa currently in office, whom I believe benefitted mostly from not being Donald J. Trump despite much better competition that was eliminated during the Democratic National Convention) - unless Democrats are secretly racist?

Yang is a strong candidate, and his relative youthfulness is appealing to me because I guess in my middle age, I am not ageist; but I am just sick of power tripping olds and career politicians. Not to mention, America seems to have forgotten this shit from 2008.

Pepperidge Farm remembers. :expressionless:

And I just read Yang has Covid-19?! Awkward laugh it off Mr. Yang!

Obama had been serving in public office for over a decade before he was elected president. And even then, people tried to say he hadn’t been on the hill long enough.
But Yang has never held an elected office.

Some are, I’m sure. And unfortunately racism against Asians has been on the rise since the pandemic started:

I really like him. I bummed he isn’t going to take a cabinet position.

I sure as fuck am. The fact that he’s under 50 is a huge appeal to me.

Mainly the networks that wouldn’t allow him to speak during the DNC primaries, and provided people incorrect naming. Fuck the establishment.

I was extremely surprised he wasn’t a part of Biden’s camp.

Yeah, time for me to go all " the MSM is EVIL" for a second but Hollywood had done a pretty shitty job up until very recently on male Asian representation.

They were typically a bookish nerd who was scared of girls, or a sidekick with an accent that did kung-fu.

Asain women got a bad shake too, but things are starting to turn around.
Representation matters, imho. Especially for a guy like Yang, where (on a national scale, not NYC) you have a decent chunk of people who’s only ā€œinteractionā€ with east Asian people is what they see on TV

Hollywood gonna Hollywood.

They are only interested once something makes bank, and then they run it into the ground. The best example of this was that abortion they crapped out in theaters with Jackie Chan and Jet Li. I grew up watching their Hong Kong flicks, and no way in hell was I going to watch these titans play second fiddle to some rando white kid.

I keep my fingers crossed Hong Kong will manage to avoid being re-absorbed into China just for the sake of their film industry. That might be a lost cause at this point. :frowning:

What’s worse is it invalidated all of the work Yang himself did leading up to the DNC con job. He was connecting with voters all across the midwest. Those ass-hats just wanted to anoint their chosen ā€œtop tierā€ candidates, that inevitably flamed out - until establishment hacks found a use for them after teaching them a lesson.

The sad part is Yang is a team player, he’s putting in the work. Campaigning for other establishment candidates, and I hope those bastards recognize and reciprocate.

Meanwhile, I wish Jesse Ventura would shit or get off the pot as well. If the Green party ran him, they would have had my vote for Blain aka swole Crypt Keeper in 2020.

I read that Yang actually WAS offered a position in Biden’s cabinet but turned it down to focus on his run for NYC mayor

If Yang ever won the presidency, would he be the first one to have a ST cabinet in the white house?

Yang may know how to play ball, but NYC twitter keeps pointing out that Yang has been kind of making a clown of himself out on the mayoral campaign trail.

Maybe the dude should have just taken a cabinet position.

What’s he doin?

I don’t have Twitter.

I’d say this was a poor move. Biden will likely have a successful Presidency since he just has to pass out money and get CoVID under control. Being a part of the ā€œteamā€ would have helped out a lot.

I’ll dig up a couple of tweets talking about it when I get a chance, but he’d doing stuff like filming himself in a big grocery store while talking about how much he loves NYC ā€œbodegasā€. Acting like a tourist who wants to sound like a local.

It’s the reason Sanders and Warren turned down postitions to be on Biden’s cabinet. There’s still positions to keep for majority, less you end up with another GOP majority that blocks everything.
