The PC gaming Thread. Steam/GOG/Origin/Etc. Game/Software/Hardware talk

50% improvement in performance.

Numbers never lie.

im sure they said 40% to begin with, though now they’re being more specific; 50% improvement to the CPU

this should allow a hell of a lot more people use VR headsets on their medium PCs. though of course it’d have to be on low/medium settings

So a GTX 970 can’t go above 3.5GB of memory usage before it shits all over itself:

This could be a potential shitstorm for NVidia.

yeah 970 is really a budget high end card, i mean its nearly equal to a 780ti come on.

end of this year/start of next year nvidia will release the proper next gen cards

I might send the 970 back and splurge for a 980 then…

Come to think of it, I should probably wait for official word from Nvidia.

the first line of my post wasn’t meant to put it down, didn’t word it right; it was meant to mean its a very good price for a very good card.

Oh I didn’t take it that, I momentarily had a bit of a freakout about getting fucked. Then I remembered for the last month it’s been amazing so I’ll give Nvidia at least a chance to address the issue before i call Newegg for a return.

Here’s a 50% off discount code for Lichdom Battlemage on Steam I got from the November Loot Crate:

I’m never going to use it so I’ll leave it here in case you guys (or some random lurker) wants it.

Gonna keep an eye on the updates towards this.

You guys are too easy to panic with a single article. Even if it’s limited at 3.5/4, price-wise and performance-wise it still shits on most other cards. How often will you even need to use up at least 3.5? The games you are playing must have a memory leak or something.

Certain games need it, like shadows of mordor with the high texture pack. Or if you play at higher resolution than 1080p.

The salt is building. Reading users comments after they hit the 3.5GB mark in certain games is hilarious yet sad. You guys should do your own tests as well.

So I played some BF4 on a Wavebird, using a cheap $6 GCN to USB adapter. I have to say it was a sobering experience. If the C-stick’s thumb pad had wider circumference, as well with another Z button, clickable analog sticks, and a larger d-pad, then the Cube would have a GOAT status pad.

Also, lol at the reports of 970’s having caps. The low power consumption is probably the main culprit, but I have seen high power cards crap out before & vice-versa. Ima just wait it out though; might get a Titan if this problem is widespread with all 970’s.

My friend is offering to sell me his imac for very cheap. It’s the i5 27 inch model from mid 2011 (I think it’s MC813XX/A). I’m considering taking it and making it into a sort of ā€œtvā€ just for netflix and hulu. The screen is quite crisp and good sound. 27 inch is not very big but the living room area is rather small.

An i5 imac for $200 dude. I can’t spit on that deal.

I have this Wanderlust key for anyone that wants it. It’s when the co-op Humble Bundle I forgot to redeem

27 is too small to turn into a TV. Better to have a large screen and to just be able to connect your laptop/desktop to.

Is it really? I’ve been using a 23 inch monitor for years so anything will seem bigger

People are finding out that there are issues with other Maxwell cards and raging about NVIDIA.

I use mostly laptops so power and heat on 980m still the best.

Well, depends. Like, if I’m using a laptop then 17" is okay. Though if I want to watch a movie and sit like 20’ away then I would prefer at least 40" LCD. I don’t like to have a monitor right in my face but if you travel a 17" laptop is godlike and with i7, SSD, 32 GB RAM, etc, I can run multiple development servers and continue working on my businesses.
