The PC gaming Thread. Steam/GOG/Origin/Etc. Game/Software/Hardware talk

And I just blew all my money on other games… oh well.

Hey guys anyone know how much I can realistically expect $80 8GB(2×4) of ram to drop in the upcoming sales. From some of the stuff I have been reading it seems RAM prices have risen and don’t seem to drop too much nowadays.

Depend on the scenario, really. DDR3 RAM modules will get a huge price cut when DDR4 becomes the standard. Don’t hold your breath though, as it could take 4 to 5 years when DDR4 speeds become commonplace.

$80 for 8GB is the best deal you’re going to get, assuming the modules are of high quality. If push comes to shove, try looking at some bare-naked RAM sticks when your wallet is low on dough.

Ram is dirt cheap. Your best bet is to get to know a friend who works for said computer manufacturer, and get that shit for free! When it comes to sales on Ram, no doubt they’ll drop the price temporarily by a large margin.

I figured as much and even if it drops I can only see it dropping 10-15 max. I will probably observe them over the next few weeks and just get them when the case I am looking at drops. I’ll have a functional pc after those two items. Then I will see if the market drops the 770 to less than 200 or decide to get the 970.

damn, if i had known earlier, I could have sold/given you my old corsair ram

It’s all good man. The ram isn’t really expensive and I have saved alot on my other parts and since my build is just about done I have no problem spending that money on ram.

@PozerWolf Savant - Ascent is on sale for a dollar. Dunno if you already bought it.

Wasn’t what I was expecting. It’s a twin-stick shooter, but you can really only move your character left or right in order to dodge enemies. Game’s a bit claustrophobic as your vertical field of view is very limited. Early on you’ll unlock a power up that will indicate when new enemies spawn off-screen, but keeping aware of your surroundings while trying to shoot shit is all very hectic.

You must have a tolerance for EDM to listen to this game’s soundtrack (I didn’t know the main char was based on a DJ, lol). My favorite tracks in the game are those that incorporate chiptunes. I could take or leave the rest.

Definitely worth a dollar if you like small twin-stick games. Game sprites are nice & sharp.

EDIT: While I’m here, here’s another Evolve alpha code. Dunno if the others have even been redeemed, but eh, these thing’s will be even more worthless after the weekend.

Lol, funny to see a game like that go on sale.
$1, sure why not.

they just gave xcom away pretty much for just voting on this ghetto ass video game award show on twitch not so long ago.

Trag gets really pissed off in IRC if you say it’s similar to Zelda+God of War,

I don’t know why. That’s the perfect way to compare it to other games.

Being the combat designer I guess he feels like it’s an insult? I have no idea.

It isn’t. It’s just the closest think we have to compare. Darksiders 2 actually has a really nice combat system. And the level design seems inspired by Zelda, which, again, isn’t a bad thing (Hell, the fact that I’ve only had trouble with the minibosses is rather telling about how easy it is to traverse the dungeons. There’s just so much shit to do there compared to a standard Zelda dungeon)

So I have been looking up getting a cheap pc just so I can take the windows 7 oem license from it and install something like Ubuntu on it instead and use the key for my current build. Does Microsoft really consider that illegal? I have looked at some forums and it seems people look really down on it for some reason.

He was in Austin for a while since the studio to work on the game was there.
He seem like an “interesting” person, seeing as how he went the arcade ufo and kept getting really upset cause one he couldn’t beat one of the regulars at marvel 3 (the game had just came out too), so… I dunno! But it was kinda funny to witness.

So I got Fist of Jesus with the Halloween 50% discount in Steam and it’s actually not bad. If anything it may be a bit simple and it lacks coop. I hope they add it, cause it must be fun to play doubles with Jesus and Judas.

The combat system reminds me a bit of, if you allow me the crazy example, Batman Arkham City, not that the moves are alike but in the sense that without being a brilliant system it does offer varied enemies that force you to use blatantly different attack patterns. For example, there are zombie legionarii with shields that you must get around and attack from behind, there are explosive lepers you must attack from a distance, there are armed zombies with tremendous range, there are sub-bosses with super-armor and telegraphed punches… When they come at you in mixed packs you have to stay alert and change your tactics. Fortunately both Jesus and Judas are quite fast on their feet.

The system is very simple. There’s no jump or run. Your two basic attacks are your typical punch combo and throwing fishes. There are also three special powers for each of the two characters which charge as time passes or by picking items; for example a kamehameha for Judas or a bread spawn for Jesus. As I ponted, there isn’t an intricate system of dodge/block or combos that direct the flow of combat but you’ll use your tactics based on your enemies; for example throwing fishes are ideal for explosive lepers. There are also a number of weapons that drop from enemies or can be bought at the start of each level: sticks, piranhas, swordfishes, guns, whips… And there are fatalities which I think give you extra points and allow you to finish your enemies quicker; doing them is a matter of timing.

Levels are very short, a matter of a couple of minutes each, in which zombies come at you from both sides, but there are many levels and several bosses. Oh, and credits are quite funny.

All in all, it’s not Knighs of the Round, but it’s not bad. It’s a reasonable buy with the Halloween promotion.

I got fun from combat, but I found the game way too long for its contents. It’s around 20 hours long and there’s a whole level that’s quite pointless if you’ve played Portal. Then again I’ve never played a Zelda game to the end so take my opinion for what it’s worth.

So Evolve is a lot more fun when you’re the monster, simply because you don’t have teammates. I played as Assault for two games, one with a full team, one with 3 bots, against the same player using the monster both games. Take a guess as to which game I won.

Spoiler

The bot game of course, human beings are fucking stupid sometimes smh…

humans would probably win if they actually fucking communicated, i swear call of duty ruined online gaming

Really liking Risk of Rain. Fun to kite enemies with the Acrid, but with no dodge, I have a pretty hard time against bosses. Don’t think I’ll be able to beat the whole game, but I at least want to unlock the Huntress (supposed top-tier).

I keep occasionally running into a bug where my character can’t jump. Only thing that resolves it is walking off & falling from a ledge. It’s gotten me killed a few times. Frustrating.
