The PC gaming Thread. Steam/GOG/Origin/Etc. Game/Software/Hardware talk

I just got a pc running and I’m new to the game. What games should I check out? Grabbed usf4 and steam already but that’s about all i got. I like fighters and action games mostly.

I’m interested in doing some video editing and recording but I’m still in the research phase there.

Thanks pimps

Finally got around to beating Transistor, dunno what took me so long. No spoilers, but if you’ve beaten the game already, tell me that one dude doesn’t remind you of Jeff Goldblum a bit. Just the way he talks, idk. Maybe it’s just me.

Here is the list of compatible CPU’s for your mobo:

When you’re done installing, make sure you download the hotfix for FX CPU’s if you’re on Windows 7. Shit runs terribly without it.

For RAM, get something that’s rated at 1866mhz. You probably won’t have to make any OC adjustments to get the RAM running at the FX’s standard frequency. Better safe than sorry, :coffee:

Nah, I get ya’.
I feel like it’s the way he delivers those lines.

Also, dat final battle.

"Who get’s to go first?

How about… me!"
Shout outs to the credits music fitting the mood perfectly.

Daikatana 2 confirmed.

Check out Bastion. It’s a great little action game and it’s often on sale for $5ish. Of course there’s always Dark Souls 1 and 2 for a longer action game.

Honestly, you probably don’t need to upgrade anything but the video card, but…

That Phenom depends on what kind it is. What you posted tells me pretty much nothing. Can you say at least how many cores it has? If it’s less than 3 then you should upgrade it. Your motherboard supports all AM3+ CPUs, so I’ll suggest an FX 6300 on the budget end (which honestly, isn’t a slow CPU by any means), an 8350 for the mid-range, and a 9370 on the high end, which you don’t need since you obviously don’t overclock.

For graphics cards, follow this list. It’s pretty spot on and goes by budget, so that you don’t overspend. Personally, I’d stick to the same CPU if it’s a 3-core or more and spend the extra money on a better GPU like a Radeon R9 280 or GTX 760. That’s pretty high end for gaming in 1080p (I’m assuming you don’t have an ultra-high resolution display, please correct if wrong).

Don’t buy RAM.

Ending battle was pretty easy on the first playthrough. I heard someone say that Mask doesn’t work on the boss, but I used it and it totally did. I’d just end my combos with Mask and get a free turn. Combine with Breach+Ping to use it more during Turn and Bounce passive for the Banshee’s Veil shield, and I didn’t get overloaded even once. Maybe it’s harder with Limiters or on NG+ or something.

EDIT: I’m just glad it was an actual, meaningful boss battle, and not some set piece or QTE. The art of creating a real 1v1 final battle seems to be a dying art these days. I get that not every game can end with something as natural and brilliant a fight as Dante vs Vergil from DMC3, but still. SuperGiant too good.

Sale on various “anime” games on Steam this week…

La Mulana is a brutal Metroidvania-ish game. For $3, it looks like a steal. I’ve never played it but seen some clips on how brutal it can be.

Quoted for truth.
Find a buddy who works for a computer manufacturer for a hook up. You can even score non-3rd party brands for free.
Worse case, buy it used. New ram is just as good as used ram anyways.

As easy as it was, the final boss battle was unique as fuck.
It made me kinda hope there was more bosses like it.
It sucks they killed off the gay couple midway through the story. They were potential stages and bosses right there.
1st dude could have been some mech fight, and his boyfriend would’ve had motive for killing you so that’s a thing. And having a stage for each of them would have expanded the story, and we could have learned more about the final boss. They said he “changed”, but we never knew how he was originally, other than what his plan was. Had we gotten more insight on who he was originally, and possibly more info on the Dark City type place you were in, then maybe we would have been caught off guard as to how he treated the player in the end.

Unfortunately, when meeting him, it’s nothing unexpected. You’re aware he changed his plans since his buddies betrayed him so…
Goddamn Weeaboos and their steam sales! SWBeta is gonna lose his shit once he catch notice of this sale.
I have my copy of La Mulana, I like heard the first stage song and was like “buy”.

what about this is this a good deal and comparable to a 290 in any way http://madison.craigslist.org/vgm/4597885579.html

I think for cpu I’m gonna go for the 8350 when it comes time but mines a quad core so its looking like it may not be a priority just yet

so far from what I’m gathering my upgrade priority list is looking like

GPU>SSD>CPU>Ram

The 270x is comparable to a gtx 660. It is a significant step down from a 290.

So.

Anyone else incredibly hyped for Source 2 and the bajillion rumours surrounding it?

this game “Albedo” is looking really interestings like a David Lynch nightmare mixed with bioshock or something. trailer was pretty legit

you guys don’t know what you’re in for very very soon

Happy it’s finally seeing the light of day! A bit surprised it showed up in Dota 2 before TF2, but interesting stuff nonetheless. Can’t wait to actually get the toolset to play with.

Needed my shmup fix and picked Sine Mora. Holy crap is the story dark for a shmup. Really fun game so far. I like the use of time in it; reminds me of Warning Forever. Also got Ikaruga. Might pick up Crimzon Clover after those two.
