Bought a 2tb Seagate hdd this past weekend. It makes some odd noises(not like a clicking failing noise) from time to time. It’s usually when I try to access it or it’s loading something. But then it doesn’t sound like your normal loading sound either. I’ll try to record the sound next time it happens. Fwiw, I’ve been using western digitals all my life so not sure if this is just a brand difference or not.
RMA it
RMA that shit. I have Seagate drives and it shouldn’t be making noise.
I only wish my motherboard has two NVMe drive slots
CES started today and Intel newest line of NUC mini PCs is interesting. They managed to put an entire mini PC into a PCIe card.
Tagging for dumping videos from CES later tonight/tomorrow.
Bruh, when my SSD failed I grabbed one during BF. Glad to have gone this route.
I have an older PC that I am working with from 2015. Primarily it’s just a streaming box, but made considerations for gaming. She’s got an i7-4790K as the processor with a GTX-950 as the GPU.
My RAM is the weakest link in the build which needs to be both updated and increased? Any suggestions?
I do plan to build another unit soon (keeping the current one) for my home office. Really it’s just for more workstation type tasks. I don’t have any preference with Intel or AMD. I seem to flip flop between the two each build. As far as buying parts I used Newegg last time. Has Amazon pretty much become the king in that realm too? Are there any other places to check?
Newegg is still my main go-to, with a quick comp shop at Amazon to make sure I’m not being gouged. I guess Tigerdirect is still around too, but I’ve barely ever used them.
I think as far as gaming goes, that GTX-950 is probably going to be a bigger bottleneck than your ram- so I wouldn’t go crazy throwing $ at the ram. Probably just look up what speeds dual-channel DDR your mobo will support and find 16 gigs of that at a reasonable price from a reputable manufacturer.
Pretty much what I figured with the graphics card since it’s a proverbial dinosaur. In my experience the cost gap from going from good to great RAM doesn’t seem to be worth it.
Has anyone tried the site Micro Center?
I been to a micro center store. They have really good bundle deals. If you have one near you it’s really a great place to be.
Most of their stuff are in-store only. You basically just add to cart for in-store pick-up.
Forgot to mention they have an online catalog too, but I’m not sure how big it is.
Newegg it is then.
There’s also B&H.
Honestly, I have never ordered from them. Pricing always seems decent, but usually Newegg is just as good if not better.
B&H only charges sales tax if you’re a NY resident, otherwise they’re pretty decent.
I know for me, Amazon and Newegg both charge sales tax; so I’m pretty much fucked unless I go through a third-party seller.
Also, CES video dump in the next post.

It depends on your state, some states still see internet sales as sales and expect taxes paid.
yeah, Louisiana is definitely one of those. I ordered my current case when I was living and working there and what was $60 turned into nearly $80 after Baton Rouge got their cut.
Also a little while back, New egg decided to tell various states that some if their customers never got charged sales tax, and rather than they paying it they rat out some if their customers to that state’s comptroller
