The PC Gaming Thread Phase II, The Masters of Gaming. No console peasants

I also use bitdefender. I had my fair share of issues with it with games. It will block the save file of any game that store saves on my documents and had a few instances where it block the exe file of my games thinking it was malware. It did that with Phantom Breakers a few years ago. I had to whitelist my entire steam folder and reinstall the game to get it working.

Bitdefender gave me a bunch of problems while gaming as well.

Free gameā€¦until 9/14.

the key takeaways from this:

  • PC version of the game installs a keylogger, supposedly to keep code from being injected. Based on the info presented in the image, it sounds like something thatā€™s triggered at the services level, possibly a driver.

  • required 2MB/sec upload for new version of Denuvo (hash decryption/et al). New version of Denuvo is being likened to VMProtect for earlier Assassinā€™s Creed games, as it generates a new VM and JIT session for each game launch.

  • people are asking Gearbox to patch out this new Denuvo due to system performance issues. Itā€™s been pretty much confirmed that Denuvo 3 is the cause behind the widely-reported frame rate issues.

Another reason never to get this game

I would wait and see personally if either Gearbox gets their bluff called and is forced to patch this out, or Denuvo 3 is cracked. If either option is done, Iā€™d say give it another look if itā€™s your kinda thing.

I am waiting till maybe a very steep discount on steam (with no Denuvo) or GOG.

Going the legal route will resolve this problem. Putting a keylogger into your game has to be illegal. This type of shit didnā€™t work well for Sony when they put malware on their CDs as an anti-piracy measure.

Gearbox and 2K can argue that the end user agreed to the EULA, which allows the install. If it goes to a legal challenge, this will probably be their argument.

EULAs never hold up if they contradict existing laws. Itā€™s no safeguard.

Problem with EULA because the nature of contracts where both parties canā€™t negotiate are put thought much more stringent review by courts, and by law there certain rights you can not force a waver in a contract.

Keyloggers would be a strict and blatant violation of that

I found this

Iā€™ll agree with that. If it did go to court, the leading IP courtroom in the US is 10 minutes away from my place.

Problem with EULA because the nature of contracts where both parties canā€™t negotiate are put thought much more stringent review by courts, and by law there certain rights you can not force a waver in a contract.

Keyloggers would be a strict and blatant violation of that, you either need a class action or someone with alots of money for a good law team.

Which is why I said in the BL thread that either one of those two things is gonna happen. Either Gearbox caves to public pressure and either patches the currently obtrusive parts of Denuvo 3, or removes it entirely due to continued public pressure and/or possible legal action against them and 2K/Epic. The option of it being cracked by scene groups is inherently possible as well, and could put pressure on GBX to either patch or remove.

Anyone recommend a free antivirus ?
Iā€™ve finally had enough of avgā€™s shit and uninstalled it.

good ones I know of:

Avira Antivirus
Avast
Bitdefender Free (has some issues with games)
Windows Defender and a extension/addon for VirusTotal

Malwarebytes+Avast is a good combination. Avast for firewall and Malwarebytes for scanning files (manually).

Havenā€™t had an antivirus on the computer since 2014 or soā€¦

I will be going back to Malwarebytes again.
Getting super tired of AVG trying to sell me shit, after I bought the 1-year subscription for the Antivirus.

Though I do like the VPN service they had for mobile phones.

Anyways, in news that numerous people have been waiting forā€¦

I would be more excited for this if Rockstar wasnā€™t having itā€™s own PC launcher.
