The Pandora Discussion Thread

They should make the launcher special-, dash- and jump-cancellable when you’re in pandora mode, to make it not useless. And maybe have MP+MK work like a roman cancel or something instead of having no use.

Why would anyone want Pandora to be anything but useless?

This, for eternity. IMO comeback mechanics in fighting games should be like, to use a sports comparison for a second…pulling a goalie in hockey. Very very risky, last ditch, works 1 out of 50 tries, only worth trying if you did well enough. Pretty much, worth it, but only in very specific situations, and even then it works rarely. This is what Pandora seems like to me now.

This makes matches slightly more exciting while not allowing for stupid play, imo. As pandora is now, I’m totally ok with it.

Though in a TGS interview he did say (I believe it was the gamespot one.) If we find that Pandora is under used or useless we will make it more powerful. -_- I do hope it doesn’t happen.

I’m already disliking the idea of making Pandora more powerful just for the sake of it being used.

Seriously, I don’t have nothing against balancing characters to even a game a little, but grabbing a feature that has nothing of broken, and trying to make it stronger to a point in which it will be used all the time, that move is dumb.

For that matter, they should grab the weakest characters of every game and make them far more powerful. After all, they are “underused or useless”.

Why do people talk like comeback mechanics was something only recently devised? Fatal Fury and early KOF had them for years and years and no one complained.

Because I want to see it every now and then.

Because Capcom comeback mechanics tend to be dominate their games. Look at MvC3.

Level 3 X-Factor is a good example there, but stuff like Ultras are actually rather tame compared to some earlier comeback mechanics. Take a look at the Real Bout series where you had a super doing anywhere from 40-60% damage that could be used at will as long as you had red flashing life (and in Real Bout, that didn’t take much), or KOF94-96/98 Extra Mode where you could use level 1 supers at the cost of no meter with 20% life or below (maybe 25% not sure of the exact number).

Just like dooplis said
1.) Launches should be jump cancel-able,some normals too,
2.) Everybody should have the ability to combo off an over head.
3.) Extend time to 12-10 seconds and that’s it.
Having the ability to combo into it is out of the question, f*** that now it becomes a comeback mechanic since your able combo into it like all the other comeback mechanics. If they buff the time now it will become like X-factor lvl 3 Haggar, make one good guess and it’s all over.

You can most likely combo into it, the question is how situational the preceeding combo has to be.

There is no way to combo into pandora people.

Unless you can’t activate it when the opponent is in hitstun, I’m not going to believe that for a second.

Have you noticed how far back you end up when you activate pandora? How do you propose its possible?

Dhalsim s.LK or Heihachis super right after activation, for example. Or you can jump in with a cross-up into the corner, then activate it. What I’m saying is that I really doubt there’s no situation where you can hit someone, activate Pandora, and then hit them again for a 2-hit combo.

If you want to be pedantic, 'Sim’s s.LK doesn’t reach that far anymore (all his limb attacks are command normals now).

Yeah, I of course meant f.LK.

somebody used Pandora on knock down and they stayed at the same distance.

I wonder to what extent tweaking Pandora would affect its stability under the gem system.

It may be possible to arrange Pandora gems for some kind of “Pandora Gief” cheese element to competitive play.

Seriously, this feature is 100% useless if you can’t deal 100% damage to someone in one combo in seven seconds, AFIK nothing stops your opponent for running this own pandora, so you just activate your pandora and hold down back for the 6 remaining seconds. Bonus points if you have the auto block/[S]tech[/S] gem (no, they can’t be that stupid to allow gems while in pandora).

I can’t imagine anyone don’t using it at the 7 seconds left mark, you get not penalty for using it besides… of course your opponent will use it later and negate any chip damage you dealt before.

This feature have been designed to be 100% useless.

“pandora = useless” sounds like good news to me.
At this point of knowledge of the game it could only look OP or useless.
OP is like X-Factor, useless means that we’re not gonna see it in every match and that pandora comebacks will be genuinely deserved.
Even if we’re gonna see it once every 50 games, that’s still better than a broken comeback mechanism that just throws the rest of the round in the toilet.
