She’s not evil! She’s a violent, psychotic, axe-murdering nut-job, sure. But deep down she really cares!
The wait is a pain. I guess there is nothing to do but come up with ridiculous ending scenarios.
To anyone who ever played PainKiller…
Painwheel’s wish to the Skull Heart was that she wanted to not to feel so violently angry anymore. She was then transported into purgatory where a massive demon army was rushing to kill her along with heavy metal music filling the air. She was still angry as ever so she proceeded to blend/brutally rip appart the lot of them. So after doing that and managing to absorb a couple … hundred … thousand of their souls she felt different. She didn’t feel that angry anymore. At that moment she was dragged into hell by Lucifer who was not very happy at the fact that she just slaughtered most his army. While he was explaining to her that he needed those demons to take over heaven she was thinking to herself “If I kill him, I could be the new ruler of hell. … Eh why not?” They did battle and Painwheel won. She then became the new ruler of hell. THE END :looney:
she’s just tsundere
Hey Painwheel, It’s the end of the month. Where are you? ~ Even a Ms. Fortune style troll would suffice! C’mon! Come on out!
Perhaps she plays similarly to Victor from VS?
…A Victor with fly-mode?
tight
If I recall, Victor didn’t charge, he just could extend the range of his moves by holding down the button. And he didn’t have super armor or anything like that for most of his moves.
Anyway, the new footage has to come any day now. It just has to. I can’t take this getting on srk 3 times a day just to see if it’s on the main page yet.
Just finished this article on Dustloop: http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?12744-Painwheel-Thread-What-Flavor-PAIN-Flavor!
How’d you get all her movelist info?
RL/Copperdabbit/MikeZ gave me opportunity to demo her and gave me the full rundown with character info. Though keep in mind that the moves are not 100% finalized. Everything you saw in the gamespot demo is in the article.
 Thanks for putting this together and sharing this, I really appreciate it .
Also just a couple of questions for clarification about her flight if you can answer them, you mention that her flight is available in the air so does that mean you cannot enter flight mode from the ground (I assume if not you can just TK it). You also say that using any normal or entering the flight command again will break it so can she use her Scythe move without breaking her flight?
Yes, you can enter flight mode from the ground.
Yes, she can use any normal/fight command to break it and special cancel back into flight mode.
No, using special moves like Scythe will stop her flight mode; you can’t cancel back into it.
*Update! *Very likely that you won’t be able to manually unfly at all. According to Mike, “likely she won’t be able to manually unfly at all, only via attacking. Risk/reward is skewed with the ability to unfly whenever and block. :^)”
Air special moves are all over the place.
Peacock: No air specials
Cerebella: One air special, always takes you to the ground
Filia: One air special, allowed only once per jump
Parasoul: One air special, can chain into itself so can be used as much as can fit in a jump
Fortune: Two air specials, each can be used once per jump
Painwheel: Two air specials. Flight is as many times as you can do it per jump, but you can’t do it ever after a scythe which you can only do once per jump?
I just watched the new Painwheel video. I gotta say she looks AMAZING. Flight had me sold from the start on her but I’m beginning to think she’s going to make a solid anchor on my team. Animationwise I think she’s the best one so far!
I hope you don’t change her voice either, because I just think it fits perfectly with the model. Next year can’t come soon enough…
The only thing i dont like about her is how her deathwheel takes up a full character size vertically when she is downed. Minor complaint but it is heavily noticeable unlike regular dead bodies.
Nice work on the thread. Character is looking real choice. Can’t wait to get my hands on her.

Bloating the stage with characters had always been my complaint, especially when both players spam assists along with dead bodies on the ground. The result is that no one can see what’s going on because sprites are being overlaid on top of characters. They should move the dead bodies into the background and dim the lighting on them so it’s less obstructive. Secondly, dim the assists and mark “P1” or “P2” on their heads so players can tell what’s going on. Also, always move the assist sprites behind primary characters so they will not be hindered.
Well, we all know Painwheel doesn’t fight because she necessarily wants to; it’s more that she’s compelled to fight, by forces beyond her control… It just occurred to me that this might be an opportunity for some really dark and vicious fourth-wall-breaking jokes about the relationship between video game characters and the people on the other side of the screen who control them.
I mean, ultimately, Brain Drain isn’t really the person responsible for manipulating her – YOU are. “Get out of my head” indeed.
Interesting… You know, that strikes me as being very Metal Gear. The games seemed to deal with that a lot, talking about some sort of metaphysical guiding forces that were beyond the characters’ control, dreams about previous game over deaths, screwing with the interface and controls, that kind of thing. This doesn’t seem to be the type of game where they’d screw up the controls to get that across, at least not in a fight, but now you have me wondering if that’ll ever be played with. Astute observation.
Well, I wasn’t suggesting any sort of interface screw, really. I was just suggesting a few lines of dialogue for Painwheel that suggest she’s aware of being played, as it were – which she is, in both plot and game-mechanics contexts. Her particular brand of crazy comes from her misery at constantly being a pawn of someone else (very much unlike Peacock, who probably doesn’t care who she gets her orders from, just as long as they say “go beat the shit out of someone”). Being manipulated by someone with power over you is essentially the fix that ALL video game characters find themselves in.
Granted, you could play it off kind of like Deadpool, only more tragic than funny – but the best course would be to give her lines that make sense in both contexts. like screaming about how “it’s all just a game, some stupid evil game!” or asking Peacock “Who’s playing you?”
