this is painwheel thread, not oliverine thread. (and you know there are three types of average: mean, median and mode?)
but, back on topic, if you want to argue about varying hp take it to gen discussion, the one in Q&A is spent, let mike answer there if he feels like repeating himself.
Uh there’s a ton of multi hitting moves in this game, not to mention characters with chainable lights. And you can, uh, throw her. We have next to no details on how her armor works so calling something OP is ridiculous. You’re forgetting that almost every character in this game is being designed to be really good at something and decent at everything else, which is great balance. Painwheel is going to be good at being a bully with crazy normals.
Almost no one agrees with you, and the game will not be designed with varying health, period, so you should stop bring it up.
I only brought it up twice. Originally in here and back in the Q&A thread because I truly wanted to know the answer, the people around here sadly turned it into a mantra. Also Super Armor is a touchy subject. It basically says “Even though you landed a hit on me, I still get to attack and combo”. I’m sorry but that will always annoy me somewhat. Also Painwheel can fly.
Flying, Superarmored character…that smells alot like Sentinel.
yes, painwheel, from all reports, seems to be designed to fill the same niche that sent did. air superiority.
as far as super armor characters, it is one of those things you just need to learn to deal with and adjust your play style accordingly. if you know someone has super armor you dont just run in attacking willy nilly you need to bait them and set things up to make them open themselves up. if her armor is going to be only one hit (which we have no clue) then its not so bad, just make sure that if you are going to attack you use multi-hit moves or spam jabs or whatnot.
ummm… if youre talking about mvc3, only sent has armor that soaks more than one hit… not sure how hulk works his way in… mike could also do it like some of tagers stuff in BB where it would absorb up to X amount of damage then break. (lennie is already like this to a degree so i wouldnt be surprised).
the best way to beat things like this is to not attack unless you know its going to work. the easier stuff to counter with jazz like what painwheel has is to use it against broadcasted jump in attacks. i dont think it will be that much different than playing against any counter-move character. but again, we really have no clue how she actually works, so this is all speculation.
We really don’t need comments about characters being OP in a game that hasn’t been released, especially for a character whose gameplay hasn’t even been shown. If people are to believed, Cerebella is OP, Parasoul is OP, Ms. Fortune is OP, etc. If every character comes off like that, that should make for a fun and balanced game.
This is the same way I feel about Marvel vs Capcom 3 to an extent. Every character feels broken once you become decent with them. But the only thing that makes painwheel “questionable” is that she has super-armor. Which is theoretically is a combo breaker attached to a move.
Its more theoritcally a counter attached to a move. Its not like you can get randomly hit and then go into a super armoured move. You have to be in the motion of the move for super armour to occur.
I expect painwheel’s normals to be slow-ish, but cover a lot of space and generally heavy hitting.
I’m more curious to see how many points of armor that she has, and if she can charge her normals as long as she want. And if Painwheel loses the ability to tech if she charges a normal, or how much damage can reflect back at the oppotent.
I don’t think her having super armor would be overpowered, that’s dependent on how many tools she has and how effective she would be with it. Anybody who plays the vs series understand that good hyper/super armor character had so many overpowering tools rather than just have a lot of super armor. For instance Sentinel in MVC2 was better than any character with Super armor/hyper armor.
Sentinel players who actually know how to use fly mode correctly are the fucking scariest thing you’ll ever encounter.
That’s the kind of game design philosophy that results in crap like Dark Phoenix. Having low health means nothing the moment you put that character into the hands of someone who is good enough to not get hit most of the time. If Sentinel or Storm had low health in Mvc2, they’d still be god tier in my oppinion.
please dont bring the health thing up again… please
as far as armor, i agree with grooktook completely. even in mvc3 look at the differences between sent and hulk. hulk isnt really any good. he has poor mobility and a limited mix up game and needs serious help to get in/stay in. sent on the other hand, has great mobility and can get in and stay in very easily and has projectiles! he also has a decent mix up game (low or grab, i know hulk has a command grab too, but his is trash compared to sents) and most sent players dont really rely on his armored moves!
I really hope it’s Monday, we’ve known of Painwheel’s existence for so long and we’ve got nothing to work with! :shake:
Painwheel will do alot to widen SG’s appeal a bit too, people love bad guys and evil things.
