*The "padhacking" thread*

You can use any of the grounds (I think) but it’s better if you use the ground between the L1 and L2 since you’re most likely not using the L1 and L2 connections for your stick but the R1 and R2’s. Use that one and then daisy chain you’re heart away.

thx! i’ve been wondering which one to choose, thx man

i thought i read something about a resistor being added but additional information is needed about the pcb

A word of advice for anyone planning on hacking a 360 pad, just go ahead and use the alternate solder points on the underside of the pcb. It’s so much easier than scraping the black stuff off the contacts and they hold better.

Have anyone tryed to hack the Sega Saturn Model 2 Controller to play on the PS2…I want to see if it’s even possible to get the PS DS PCB in the Saturn Controller…Cheaper then a PS2 Saturn Controller

Nevermind sorry for the post.

Hey guys,

I have a little problem with a stick one of my friends wants me to repair for him. It has both ps1 (official sony) and 360 (madcatz joysick- the one with a common ground) pcb’s inside of it. The problem he is getting is when he presses a button with a combination of another button it will randomly press start or input some other button that he did not press. This does not happen all of the time, rather, it seems very random but semi-frequent.

I checked the pcb job - everything seems to be done right (as far as I know), he’s running one daisy chain ground- connecting both of the pcbs and all of the buttons in the same chain and a seperate ground from each pcb for the joysticks. Each button has 3 wires going into them - 1 for the ground and 2 for each pcb’s action button (so “x” from the ps1 and “A” from the 360 are both on the same quick dissconnect, for example). All of the soder jobs seem to be sturdy and in the correct place (all grounds are well secured away from the input button and all input buttons are sodered correctly.)

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks!

Hey bro… I have the same setup (madcatz arcade stick) and ps1 controller. I’ve had a few problems but they weren’t anything that couldn’t be fixed except through making sure all the wires were connected properly. Make sure there are no solder bridges, all wires are in good condition (no metal exposed and touching other wires) and that they all go to where they are supposed to go. I had an issue where both triggers would be pushed when I pushed one of them, then to my amazement when I disconnected one trigger, BOTH still fired!

A barrier strip really helped me to keep everything organized, but it’s not absolutely necessary. I used american ones, but I think using european strips are easier.

Don’t know if that ends up being the cause, but it’s always good to double check your work. Good luck with your struggles.

I had a similar issue with a setup I was working on. Make sure you are getting the correct power pin on the PS1 pad.

Sorry to ask again, but:

Does anyone have any idea how the connections on a 360 mic jack work? I have a madcatz pad that thinks it always has a mic plugged in, which means I can’t use my wireless headset.

I personally haven’t opened the Stick you have but if a jlw will fit the ls56 will fit. The ls56 is verry shallow so depth shouldn’t be a problem. What will be an issue is the mounting plate that comes with the 56 is too small to do anything with. Go to akihabara shop and when you order the ls56 and its octogonal gate, also order the 2 different mounting plates that work with the 56. 1 of them is the same size as the jlw mounting plate and 1 is the same size as the jlf mounting plate. I say get both and you should be able to get it in there. Make sure you don’t get the ls56-01 version cuz I just looked at the inside of that hori fighting stick ex2 and it doesnt have that 5 pin harness that the -01 model requires. Someone else might know more about replacing the stick in your perticular hori. But withthose mounting plates you should be able to make it work. There is a thread in tech talk called modding hori fighting stick ex2 but the guy didnt replace the stick. From the looks of the pictures I might be wrong about the standard ls56 mounting plate not working. The stock hori stick looks alot like the ls56, you might even be able to just put the seimitsu octogon gate on the hori, not positive but they look similar. I can see that this will be a kinda tricky mod due to the way the stick is mounted. You might need to drill some holes in the top plate.

Thanks for your help guys! I think I got it (moved the ground connecting the buttons to a different location on the pcb)

out of the ps1 dual shock and a regular ps1 pad (without the analog) which is easier to hack?

I’d say the normal PS1 pad is easier to hack. It’s more simple constructed than the Dual Shock.

ok this has nothing to do with padhacking but i did a search and no one seems to ask about this.

what are the dimensions of the common PCBs people hack? i’ve taken apart a Game Stop wired Xbox 360 controller, so i know how big that one is.

cant seem to find any pad hacking info on the ps1 pad. will i be better off getting the dual shock?

go to SlagCoin’s site. There are pics of all PS1 Pads.

hey

i’m making a 360(wired) custom and using a JLF stick.

i have the PCB all soldered up but i realized the stick only has 1 ground wire, but the dpad on the 360 has a ground for each button/direction.

how does that work? how do you connect 1 wire to 4?

anybody have a diagram?

thanks!
alan

you obviously didnt listen to my posts and put the wrong stck in there, the jlf is ciommon ground , thile your pcb is not thats whay i specifically told you to get a stick with regular microswitches.

so it looks like you didnt listen to my advise i gave you in this post. nor did you do enough research about the sticks youre messing with. the jlf is a common ground stick with a 5 pin harness. the hori you are trying to stick it into based on the pictures ive seen does not use that 5 pin harness. therefore you need a traditional type joystick like the sanwa jlw which suck dog balls or the seimitsu ls56 which i recomended to you in this thread im quoting. you need a stick that has actual microswitches not 1 with a pcb and harness. i know the xbox regular controllers are not common ground, i dont know if that ex2 is or not but by the looks of it it isnt. i sent you a PM that gives you the name of a guy who has already put an ls56 into the ex2. there is even this thread that details modding the ex2 even swaping sticks http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=140160&page=3 . good luck.
