*The "padhacking" thread*

So toodles… like this?

You know of any other places that sell these chips? I dont want to wait 10 weeks for delivery.

Yes, now you got it.

You’re on your own for finding places to buy it, but the free samples usually come in a week. If you need to buy a bunch immediately, just get the 74hc14 inverters and the 74hc4066n analog switch ICs and use them instead.

What resistors should we be using?

Whitey (m1lk as you know him) says either 4.7k or 1k… which one is better?

I usually use 10k, but 4.7k will work nicely. I wouldn’t want to go less than 4.7k; usually youd want to use a resistor with less value if it was a very high frequency line, but since we’re talking only as fast as a human could press it, anything less than 4.7k would be just wasting power (a 1k would drain 5mA when pressed, and a 4.7k would drain 1mA, and a 10K would draw 0.5mA.) with no benefit.

Hey fellas, after trying my hand at pad hacking, I’ve finally got the hang of hacking OEM Sony PSone pads but my trial and error methods have left me fresh outta pads to hack. So I have two questions, first where do you guys get old school psone pads from? my local pawn shops and game stores refuse to sell 'em and it seems only a few (like 1-2) places on ebay sell 'em.

And second (my main question) is there a list of other types and brand name pads that can be hacked in place of the common sony oem psone pads?

I need more pcb’s to experiment on but I don’t wanna run into anymore ps2 dual shock pcb’s LoL

Try craigslist or more pawn shops. There are shops dedicated to pre-owned game equipment as well.

i got my psone DS H series at the gamequest store in the mall…and it was the last one there, so i got lucky, you can try those kinda stores, i wudnt depend on gamestop tho, they’re getting rid of everything

EB games wud come close to getting what you want, but i wudnt depend on that either. so your best bet would probably be ebay or play-asia. but playasia is kinda expensive, but they mostly have everything you need.

thank god for gamequest.

On the H series PSX DS controller, there is a discrete PCB for the analog sticks that’s connected to the main board via ribbon cable. Can I remove the cable?

I’m pretty sure you have to keep the analog pcb connected for it to work.

yea you gotta leave it on…or say bye bye to the whole thing

Is there a set of instructions to mod the SF AC nubytech pads? I’ve noticed one or two people on these boards had managed to resolder it for the button alignement to match the standard one (like in a HRAP/T5 stick).

Can you post a pic of the solder points if you have one, TIA.

Does the Sega DC pad have any through-holes for soldering?

Not for the d-pad or buttons.

on the dc pad where does the ground wire go im assuming the picture is showing the ground wire solder points but wanted to make sure.

I’ve been having some problems lately with PS1 digital pads. I’ll expose as much of the copper contact as I can and can solder onto the point fine, but often with a little tug of the wire the entire copper contact point will come completely off the PCB. It’s frustrating because for all I know that’s a wasted PCB right there. Any ideas or suggestions?

NEW GAMESTOP MINI XBOX360 PAD IS COMPLETELY UNIVERSAL GROUND!

These new gamestop pads are in the “mini” line of pads, they are a lot smaller than their standard stuff and use a completely universal ground. As well, these controllers are also only $20. They are not available on the internet, only at certain stores such as EBX. I so far have yet to find them at a single gamestop store except at the EBX in Woodbridge Shopping Center in NJ.

I have tested and the entire controller and every button works on a single universal ground.

That is some seriously awesome news. I’ll be running out to see if I can find out. Can you post some pictures? Specifically the UPC code, and the brand label?

Is the common ground connecting to the shielding ground on the USB connector?

yeah, that would make it a whole lot easier/quicker to make a 360 stick…
Hope that the pads will become available outside the US.
