*The "padhacking" thread*

The Mad Catz Black Ops controllers are $10 at Best Buy. They’re pretty much the same as the other ones right?

Nope.

Is there anything tricky about padhacking stock Dreamcast controllers?

The Ground is circled in red your gonna scratch off the green area to expose the metal. The Ground when in contact with the Signal = the button pressed down which is why buttons have 2 metal sticking out for QD, soo solder a wires to the ground and signal and your half way there.

ah thanks, i was just confused because there were no contact points, or any insignia, referring to the ground… another question, what’s the 7.7V and 3.3V points for? should i keep note of what they do?

If you are just going to do a simple padhack to make a fight stick you wouldn’t need to worry about it but if you want to add LED to buttons or an Optical Joystick thats where you solder the wire to get your power to make LED/Optical Joystick work.

^thanks again. Yup i’m just doing a basic padhack, but thanks for the info, if i ever decided to go with LED options.

The shoulder buttons lag no matter what IIRC. So if you’re doing a stick for SNK fighters you’re fine. But if you need the triggers you’ll have to go 3rd party controller.

Or a MC Cthulhu.

can anyone help me with my problem?
i have a pad hacked 360 brawlpad inside my PS3 StF4 SE stick connected threw a switch so i can switch between PS3 and 360 when i want. my problem that i have is than when i switch from PS3 to 360 the turbo panel on the stick lights up and starts setting the buttons to turbo every time i hit a button. my question is how can i fix this so that when i switch to 360 mode the turbo panel wont turn on with every button pushed?

  • Side note: all i have pad hacked on the brawlpad is all the buttons execpt for the home, turbo, and the switch for switching between Left/Right stick and D-pad.

Okay i managed to successfully padhack a PS1 DS pad, works great and everything. Now there’s one thing that i’m still curious about, the connection points for the vibration/rumble motors… Is it possible to use these points for LED’s? (to recreate something like what the Fighting edge has, except its off when its not ‘vibrating’)

It should be, it’s just a pulse of voltage and not anything special. I’ve seen cheap 3rd party controllers that light up with vibration before, I’m sure they just tapped those points.

I was actually thinking this myself recently, though all of my sticks are opaque

What’s the cheapest wired XBox 360 controller that can be used for padhacking.

I bought a brand new Brawlpad the other day at Gamestop for $12.99 + tax, cheaper than the MadCatz and Gamestop XBox 360 knockoffs in the store.

Freakin’ FightPads are overpriced over here. Then again, they never were officially released here, so all we have are (overpriced) grey market imports.

Umm they probably cost $20-25, and the ones I found here were common ground. But I haven’t tried dual modding with these pads yet.

Try $60.

I was referring to the price of cheapo, knockoff pads. Not Fightpads.
Hence, I gave the link to the thread where the OP reviewed a pad he bought for $15 or so.

The price for Mad Catz Fightpads are around $60 too in my town.

10 dollar ps3/pc controller from DX.

I’m finishing my HRAP3 mod (using cheap PSX pad knock off). I’m using connectors (not soldering cables to buttons, that’s just stupid, my friend did this and I had to undo it all) and I have z problem - how can I make GND net? I tried to put two cables in the connector, but after awhile it all messes up, cables are easy to pull up etc. Any ideas?
