Adventures in wireless gameing

So I’d like to do a dual wireless mod 360\PS3 I’ve done a wired version before and plan to use the Imp this time around.

Last time I used a Gamestop 360 pad and Toodles Chutlhu with a switch and it turned out pretty good. There where plenty of guides to help me along the way.

So anyway

  1. What are the best (lowest priced) PCB’s to use for each system?
  2. Are there any DIY guides out there I can use to help me along the way?

I know this has been asked before sorry to be redundant but I’m having issues with the search function right now. =P

Thanks

I love the fact that the logitech pcb is properly mapped to the ps3, but hate the soldering points (break out your 30 guage folks lol). Can anyone recommend a similar 3rd party with friendlier soldering points (for ps3)?

If I recall correctly, I believe Toodles said that a dual wireless mod is not possible. Don’t take my work for it though.

If you don’t mind a wired PS3 PCB, the Cthulhu is a great board.

Man, I thought of this months ago too, but unfortunately there are NO COMMON ground wireless PS3 controllers so dual wireless is going to be a pain in the ass.

Latest version of Official MS 360 wireless is Common ground.

I was thinking about wiring up the 2 PCBs using DB 25 switch found here:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10103&cs_id=1010305&p_id=1352&seq=1&format=2

Here’s my wiring diagram I drew up a while back:

Upas - Dual wireless is not possible, ha well no wonder I couldn’t find it. lol

Well it’s not the end of the world I guess I could always just go wired again or maybe just have 2 different wireless sticks.

So the newest 360 pad is common ground that makes things a little easier. (I’m sure this is common knowledge) I’m a wood worker not an electrician yet.

I thought I was gonna get flamed for this but i appreciate the quick answers so thanks.

Faux123 - That’s an interesting idea, but how big is that box?
BTW looks like there are 2 #8’s I’m guessing that one is supposed to be X,A,9 ?
I have a few other random questions I’ll PM you

Thanks again guys

I padhacked a 360 controller to work in my 15th Anniversary Stick. I just recently completed the whole job but have ran into a little problem. My stick has a 8 button layout. I can program the buttons to do 8 different functions (lp,mp,hp,3p,lk,mk,hk,3k). I can press each button and it works by itself. I can even do the mp,mk EX moves. However, when I press the 3p or 3k button (like Zangiefs lariat) or just press the lp,mp,hp buttons all at the same time, it does not work. I have a hori ex2 and can preform the 3 button moves easily so its not a skill thing. I am grounding all the buttons and the joystick microswitches to the “x” button ground since it is a common ground 360 pcb. The 3 button combo is the only thing not working. What am I doing wrong?

I pad hacked this controller:

Good catch, oops, typo. I drew it a while back, I had to look for it didn’t really double check before I posted it, but as you mentioned it was fairly obvious.

My thinking was to ditch the metal box of the DB 25 A/B switch, use whatever is inside + the connectors and selector switch to reduce the footprint inside the stick cabinet, maybe even directly solder the wires to the switch itself bypass of the connectors to further reduce its size and only need to drill a hole on 1 of side panels to mount the selector switch.

The other things I didn’t show in the diagram are the LEDs to show which of the 2 controller is on or off (and maybe even show which port it was assigned, but this will not be easy). Since both are wireless, charging will be an issue, so I would need to drill 2 other small holes: 1 for USB connector for PS3 and 1 for Play and Charge kit for Xbox 360.

I think I figured out my problem. I put a movie into the 360 and pushed play. The movie instantly started to fast forward like the RT button is sticking. The button must be slightly grounded.

Can anyone recommend a Dreamcast controller for hacking? I’ve got an official controller, but I’ve read that the triggers lag, and I’ve got a Performance Astropad but it’s not common ground.

People who’ve used the retro stick before in a dual-pcb mod: Anybody know if the usb points on the stick are through-hole? I took my usb cord off the thing, and now have four very close together solder pads, wires holding on pretty much by sheer willpower. If it’s through-hole, i’d gladly redo it, but just wondering if anybody knew.

Hi i’m changing my mas super pro stick with a perfect 360 stick from dreamcast to xbox 360. How the hell can i get 5 volts if the xbox 360 controller pcb only works at ~3v. What do i have to install is it another resistor or capacitor and where, so i can get my 5v for the P360 stick??can i use an external battery and connect them parallel???
Please someone help me god will make you rich jajaja

I’m starting to scrape off the black stuff on the Xbox 360, any tips on how to get the black stuff off the directional pad/D-Pad those small dots?

I’m carefully doing it with a razor blade but still can’t see the copper =/

Anyone ever try padhacking a guitar hero controller? These things are apparently cheaper than peanuts at toys r us ($7.99). The one issue I see is that it only has five buttons on the fretboard, but I was hoping that the internal PCB would have leftover signal traces for the other buttons or something.

The absolute best thing to use for dreamcast is the the pcb from the Agetec joystick. It’s common ground and extremely easy to work with, in a fairly compact size. They’re a popular shell to mod and many end up moving to a different system, so with a bit of luck you should be able to find one.

doubtful, cost is everything and removing some traces etc. would save costs heh. I have someones guilty gear xx stick:

which I checked to see if it had the trace for the “missing” button, but it doesn’t, but you can always check on the gh controller to make sure.

Madcatz 360 padhack - random guide button?

Hey guys, I just finished my first stick. I wired up everything up last night and tested it out and surprisingly, everything works, except for one thing:

If you mash buttons, like 3-4 at the same time, it triggers the “Guide” (Xbox) button. Has anyone seen this problem before? I did a search and couldn’t find anything about this.

Thanks!

Disconnect the guide button and see if it still happens.

If not, then your button is too sensitive and should be replaced.

If so, then you have some kind of crazy ass wiring/ground/short issue.

does it matter if you scratch the copper when scraping off the black stuff? I’m using a razor blade to scrape it off, scared of scraping lines into the copper with the blade =\

As long as you didn’t scrape the copper off you should be fine. For what it’s worth, it’s easier to solder connections to rougher surfaces anyway (at least for me).

360 help

Hey Parabellum,
Thanks for the tip. I am almost certain that it is a grounding issue. I have a ton of wires in my box, plus I have a Cthulu for PS3 in there as well. There’s only a single ground wire, which I think may not be enough. I think when I press all the buttons at once, the ground bounce causes the other buttons to trigger.

I’m at work right now so I can’t test my hypothesis yet, but I’m pretty sure.
