The Orlando Thread: We Have The Life Lead, So We're Going To Chill!

taken out of context i imagine your comment could be true but you weren’t there and that was one example so i don’t feel you have enough information to comment on the situation. Being that the comment was made during one of his “self doubt” modes add in the fact that he was PLAYING BISON AT THE TIME, and i don’t see how it could be considered a slap in the face at all, In short Torrin wtf are you talking about?

Any Casuals this Weekend? PS3 ANybody? CvS2 SSF4 3s?

tourney at hooters in cassleberry tomorrow

Yeah that sounds about right

Yes Torrin wtf are you talking about? inquiring minds would like to know…?
and now it’s time to start up some hate…
hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate.
“There will be many upsets tomorrow at hooters lol”. PUN unintended…

You’re right I wasn’t there, but my statement still stands. For John playing a character like Bison must’ve sucked for him.

I’m gonna go around the tables at hooters tomorrow and steal their salt shakers…No one better look salty or else your getting salt in your hair/on your heads(I got you bald guys, I got you)

Ok So I have dinner plans tonight so I won’t be home until 9:30. So come anytime after 9:45. And Since I’m off work and such tomm You guys can stay as late as 2 am tonight so we’ll have plenty of time and I’ll have 4 Tv’s Already Set up and ready to go :).

I get off work @ 12:30. I work right near you, so keep hosting till 2:00am, okay?

You got it.

hey guys im going to tampa this weekend for the yankee game but am curious when the next wills pub tourney is?

Those Bison mirrors vs. John last night were embarassing for many parties, but they did lend me a bit more detailed insight into the mirror match (which I rarely get to play outside of tournaments, where I usually tend to get swept):

  • Bison still has a hard-ass time anti-airing Bison. He has good stuff with c. fierce and everyone’s favorite roundhouse, but Bison jumps so goddamn high that it’s hard to throw anything out without losing to j. fierce. Air-to-air is probably the better option against Bison, but it’s difficult to space due to the long ranges from which the other Bison can jump – and a good Bison in the mirror match will do like John did and stay on the ground.

  • Bison also has a hard time punishing Bison’s roundhouse. His fastest crouching moves all tend to have pretty puny range; I’m not sure how reliable they are to punch Bison in the balls without running into the close-range hitbox on roundhouse. c. MK might do it, but that’s a little short as well. Slide’s obviously a bad look; do it too late and/or too deep and that’s a free lunch for Bison.

  • EX Psycho is an annoying move and I’m glad it’s on my side (I cannot in good conscience condemn that move that I rely so heavily upon). I don’t think slide’s fast enough to punish it, but auto-correct EX Psycho/Knee Press could probably do it. Auto-correct Nightmare Booster starts fast, but I don’t trust Bison not to just sit there spinning his wheels and fail to catch the tail as the other Bison flies away from him. What I really want to do is dash up and throw as punish because that nets me a precious knockdown AND lets me fling him towards the corner, but I’m not sure the dash will reach far enough even if I block EX Psycho point blank (and if I dash twice I’m not sure I’d recover in time to throw).

He may be a scrubby-ass character, but I’m proud of my character (coolest character in all of Street Fighter, never a doubt in my mind) and I work hard to make him win based on tactics other than roundhouse/EX Psycho spam. Even in his worst matchups (GUIIIIIIIIILE!), I won’t trade him for any other character in the game. I believe that if I put more time in (and make no mistake, I AM putting more time in), I can make this character work and I can be more than a newbie fluke dick-riding a top-tier character.

Alrighty I’ll try to make it to Alex’s place tonight.

if it was so horrendous why did he play bison for 30 min. straight? Unless he’s masochistic that logic still falls short /shrug w/e not important.

I wasn’t really focusing so much on that as other things people said. But the way I look at myself in terms of how I stand in the community and how I perform as a player is difficult to explain and probably fucked up, so I don’t really care to dwell on it. No offense taken, though.

As much as I love my high-execution characters that push my limits in my never-ending quest to attain “perfect execution”, playing Bison really wasn’t that painful. I’ve done a lot of thinking about SSF4 lately, and I’ve basically concluded that nothing about this game is rewarding me for what execution skill I may have. There are a lot of fundamental and simple concepts of this game that I have some understanding of but not enough to give me a crucial winning edge, and still more things that I just don’t understand at all. A perfectly executed game won’t do much for me if I don’t know how to implement all the right tools to actually win.

I’ve played a lot of different fighting games over the past few years, and of all the games I’ve played Street Fighter 4 has rewarded me the least for good execution. Playing a character that has fewer execution requirements will help me to work on the fundamental skills I need, and if there’s any game for that to be more appropriate it’s SSF4. So far Bison seems to be a good fit.

And to those who were at Nestor’s place last night, I had no intention of trolling the Orlando Bison mains. I’d been thinking about playing around with Bison for a while, and I have at least a basic understanding of how to play every single character in this game. I’ve done my fair share of research.

To use as a reference, EX PC is -16 when blocked at point blank range. Auto-correct super or U1 is your only chance of punishing it in a Bison mirror, and even those are cutting it kinda close. -16 is kind of deceptive considering how far away he lands.

Can’t make the tournament today… I tried my best. :frowning: Good luck, gentlemen, and represent Orlando well. I rot away at work vicariously enjoying victory. Damn I wanted to earn a spot for the 6vs6 :frowning:

This was never posted in this thread (to my knowledge). Better late than never…
