Just show up when Ian hosts if you can; several people have been playing BBCS at his place for almost a month now. Senkei, Rico, Ian, my brother Jeff and I have all been playing it, Orlando and Lord have made noises like they want to learn it. Personally, I’m still not the biggest fan of the game, but I’ll play it mostly because it’s the one current game my brother Jeff actually trains for, and I like to encourage him in his habit.
The main reason I’m so ambivalent about the game is that while I’ve found several characters I’m competent with, the game just doesn’t have many characters in it that I like, that I feel PROUD to play as by virtue of how awesome their personality/character design is. (Compare that to SSF4, which may be a much more boring game, but I fucking LOVE Bison. He makes that game artificially fun just by virtue of being the most awesome fighting game villain ever.)
This is the main reason TvC doesn’t interest me; on top of the mechanics not really fascinating me (it may be easier to learn than Marvel 2 but everyone just looks so mechanically sedate…oh wow, you get longer untechable time for OTG after slams and a Guilty Gear Burst you can combo after, big whoop), I just don’t really find any of the characters cool except Frank West and Doronjo, neither of whom are so overwhelmingly interesting to me that I’d learn a whole new game just to play them. (I tried Saki once but was immediately disappointed when she was nowhere near as cheap as Cable. Yes, I am that petty. I want my jumping fierce/TK grenade spam, dammit.)
Brett:
Give KOF a try! Most titles (particularly '98 UM and XI) are a lot easier to start off in than they might look, depending on who you want to play there’s generally not a lot of high execution hurdles (except maybe Kim and his meterless stomp kick cancel). If you’ve ever played CvS2 N-Groove (or hell, CvS2, period), you already have a head start.
There’s even a in '98! A really cheap, annoying fat guy who has a 1-frame command throw and (IIRC) a pink palette! (And if you don’t like Chang, there’s always Orochi Yashiro, who’s not overweight but is still a grappler and is pink by default.)
I played some TvC Friday at ZP; mostly because the turnout sucked and someone had a Wii. It was actually pretty fun… If I ever do play that game, it’s Yatterman-2/Chun-Li all day!
I wasn’t aware that Ian had BB and/or HD Remix going the past few times he hosted. The few times I remember he did over the past month I was usually busy with life and never had the chance to check the forums until after the fact. But now that I know this for a fact I’ll try to make more of an initiative to come out.
Yeah, I can understand TvC’s low accessibility being a problem. Hell, I play the game on a Wii Classic and manage to make it work, but the one game doesn’t really justify having a stick for the Wii. I think there are converters for that, though, if someone really wanted to.
At any rate, I have no problem with more heavily supporting other games in the area, because frankly Super has enough support.

@ playing non-SSF4 material: I’ve always been a fan of HDR… if we have a small community willing to start playing it again I’ll gladly dust my copy off. Like I told Senkei, I’ll give BB a shot next time I’m around.
Dude, after the live EVO streams… I don’t think anybody can defend him anymore. His lipstick-hidden-in-a-chapstick-case and his avid display of his somber black painted fingernails were positively cringe inducing.
Once my stick comes in I plan on actually trying to get out into the community and playing whenever someone hosts, and you can expect me to be one of the first people who wants to play HDR. Shit, I’ll play any kind of fighting game even if I’m absolute trash at it, so break out JJBA or Vampire Savior if someone really wants a departure from SF4.
I’ve got sticks and convertors for TvC for people who want to play. i just hate that fucking game. Also, Jap or American version? It makes a HUGE difference.
Honestly, it would be a thread of it’s own to list them. Major differences are upgrades to the giants (gold lightan is still bottom tier) changes to megacrash to prevent megacrash>baroque loops, karas being neutered, ken being toned down, and new characters being added. There are many character specific changes. American version is more balanced. Ken is untouchable in japanese version.
If you’d be willing to support a TvC scene I’d prefer UAS over Cross Gen. UAS is the one everyone plays now anyway, and Cross Gen Karas makes Zero look like MvC2 Roll by comparison.
