Just come to a gathering when you get the chance. Dudes post when they are hosting all the time. It maybe a longer drive for you but it’s worth it IMO. A good community is hard to come by. Can’t wait to see you stop by sometime.

nah i’m from Midwest Wisconsin which is close i guess, but i spell armour, humour, colour, ect ect ect that way because when i was in high school i decided it was more aesthetically pleasing to my eyes(despite the fact my english teacher hated it, or possibly BECAUSE he hated it…), and now it’s just habit heh.

star14: There are in fact at least a half-dozen people out in Kissimmee who play at a decent level, however, I don’t think any of them post in this thread. (There is no dedicated Kissimmee thread because, rather rightly, it’s not considered a big enough fighting game region to make one. If you have the urge to make one, please don’t, you’ll only get infracted.)
This is unfortunate, but a lot of getting yourself into the scene is about travelling to some extent. I live in Apopka and I have to go at least 45 min to an hour out of my way to get to anybody’s place except Jebailey’s. Obviously you shouldn’t be doing this all week, every week, unless you’ve got gas money to burn, but this is central Florida, and sprawl is a reality that we all have to deal with if we want to play.
My advice to get your foot in the door is to be patient and either (a) show up once or twice to Orlando gatherings (preferably on the weekend as they tend to attract the most people) just to put a face to your name and figure out where you stand in the skill hierarchy, and/or (b) keep your ear to the ground for any tournaments in your area in the Tournaments & Events subforum.
Many more people travel out-of-region for actual tournaments, and if Jebailey puts together another Winterfest-level tournament out at the usual resort convention center, plenty of people will likely come out of the woodwork for that one. When this happens, introduce yourself and try to make contacts with people in your area.
