The Optical Joystick Discussion

I know! HE is the only seller i know that has posted sanwa flash1 for sale as brand new. As how many he has sanwa flash1 as brand new ones dont know. All i know he posts them for sell very 2 weeks.

wow. thats cool.

Heh, who is worse, the guy who raises prices or the guy who keeps paying? :wonder:
-ud

The guy who raises prices, if i dont buy from him someone else will.

I think 250.oo brand new is kinda of the peak for a Flash… yea theyre rare and yea theyre brand new… but around 300.00 youre talking about a HSS-0130 or 100.oo short of a HRAP VLX … IMO its getting crazy … lol For the love of Optical perfection!

That person was about to be me. But it’s okay, I didn’t actually have a need for it.

Well, it’s the afternoon since I slept late, but I edited the first post XMetal.

Hah! That’s hot as usual meus. I seriously wonder how many more this guy has. I’m so willing to bet that he’s some random guy from the Sanwa corporation who brought a box of these home with him and is now selling them off!

You’re so right about that beastSPL. The Sanwa FLASH 1’s definitely rare and a great joystick, but no way does it warrant a price tag near $300.00 USD. You could get an EXTREMELY nice custom with that kind of cash! :wasted:

I just installed my flash last night on my new custom, and man, what a world of a difference, its so sensitive. I dont want to do the LS spring mod or anything, I’d like to acustom myself to this new world of lighting response, but man…this is tough! i need more finesse or something ~

Believe me Ketchy Kech, you’re not alone! I STILL can’t do proper Rekkukyaku (Chicken Wings) with Fei Long in Super Street Fighter II Turbo on my ASCII Answer! I can do them just fine on a regular JLF and on an LS-32, but on an optical joystick? Forget it! I should just go home and be a family man!

Post up pics of your godspu stick with the Sanwa FLASH 1 installed! I wanna see it!

hehe joystick thread has been spammed enough, so yeah ill take some pics and post em up on here.

But man, I feel like a noob! I was a decent player on the JLF…im sure in the long run its worth it to re-learn this crap, but man!!

Haha, I know what you mean. Though I say that if you can learn to play on either an optical joystick, an LS-40 or an LS-56, you can seriously play on anything. All 3 require so much precision it’s crazy! :wasted:

This is why we need to make a nice fundraiser for Toodlez to be able to start the production run of his proposed optical pcb’s.

Also a question for you people with Sanwa Flash1 and clones, would this stick be nice for ‘shmups’ since you claim its really sensitive and acurate?

Accurate? Yes. Sensitive? No way. The Sanwa FLASH 1 and ASCII Answer might be more accurate due to them using optics rather than a microswitch, but they’re still based on the specs of the Sanwa JLF. Meaning that as far as I’m concerned, the deadzone, engage distance, and throw are all the same. I’ll be doing a more thorough test when my own Sanwa FLASH 1 comes in, but that’s the verdict for now. Basically, if you don’t like the JLF for SHMUPs, it’s not like the Sanwa FLASH 1 or ASCII Answer will do you any better.

Just my $0.02 USD.

EDIT: Also, I definitely agree; Toodles needs to get funds! I’m down for a few of his joysticks, but can’t give him money when he doesn’t even have pre-orders up yet. :xeye:

I don’t like double posting, but I figured that this was important enough to warrant a new post.

I updated the first post with a “call to arms” regarding Toodles’ Sanwa FLASH 1 clone. Everyone, if you can spare some room in your signature, help Toodles out and spread awareness by mentioning his thread in your sig!

Fucking done.

Anything to get this done quicker and easier.

I would like to be an investor in Toodles’ Flash project. :]

Edit: I’m 100% serious.

i figured i’d share my flash “clone” that i’ve been working on for the last few months.

i have alot of fine tuning left, as my fat ps2 only puts out 2.40-2.50 volts with my tri-modded stick attached. it works on my test rig on pc and ps2 with 2.9 volts fine using only a mc cthuhlu, but is flakey in my stick with multiple pcbs. i need to learn eagle so i can get a proper prototype made instead of handmade perfboard.

Oh man, dogworth, that’s insanely cool! Though if you need more voltage, try this out:

It’s a simple step-up converter to get you any number of volts you need.

I dunno, man. I say its more “sensitive” because i really feel like the directional activates w/ alot closer than a standard JLF (engage distance?). Thats the way im feeling it…you can do all the technical analysis when you get yours i guess…im not too useful for that kind of data collecting lol

Sorry for a noob question, but does the Optical Stick only available in Common Ground?

I’m thinking to change my normal, microswitches stick with the optical, but my stick is Non-Common ground.
Do I need to convert it to Common Ground to use the Optical Stick?
