The only problem with MVC3... is you

This is the same old shit every time a new game comes out. Some people say ‘Listen, the game is just…bad.’ or at the very least has problems they really don’t agree with.

Then in rebuttal the people who really only like the new game say ‘Well it’s new, we don’t know we don’t know we don’t know’ ‘If you don’t like it go back to the old game’ .

We get it. Give it a rest. It’s fine to say the game isn’t that great. I’m not a fan of how floaty and weird 3D has made sf and mvc now. It’s a lot less precise and kind of slippery compared to 2d.

I do find it funny that everyone jumped ship only to realize you don’t just transition from one game to another without having to learn a completely different system/style of playing. Just because it was seen as ‘the next big thing’. Christ. Stick with what you’re decent at and get legitimately good. If you don’t care then I don’t know why you’re whining about the game or other’s opinions.

I already had to fight
MVC2’s Magneto, Runaway Storm, Runaway Cable, One hit kill Iron Man, Insane rushdown Sent
ST’s O. Sagat, Chun, Ryu, Akuma, CE Guile, CE Bison,
CVS2’s C/K Sagat, C/K/P/A Cammy, A/K/C/N Blanka, A Bison, A Sakura, C Guile, C Honda
CVS1’s Nakoruru, Balrog
KOF2002 Billy, Choi, Athena, KOF13 Infinite EX Takuma, KOF2003 Duo Lon, KOF 98 Chizuru
3s: SA2 Chun Li, SA3 Yun, SA3 Ken
SSBM Fox, Sheik, Falco, Marth
Vanilla SF4 Sagat, Ryu, Akuma, Zangief
Project Justice Hayato
Killer Instinct Arcade and SNES Cinder

So there’s some dude named Level 3 XFC Sentinel???

Fuck him… he’ll eventually die like the rest…

In fairness, they figured out how to block the unblockable - the trick on how to do so is at the end of BlackheartKing/Magnetro’s Blackheart video.

MvC2 is still kinda off-topic, but … I’ve been playing that game for years against everybody in the country, and the 100% situations (or 200 or 300% situations) are very few and far between. And that’s against Josh360 and Mixup and everybody else that you’d be afraid of. [No insult to anyone else: those are just the two people that come to my mind when I think one hit death.] Typically in MvC2 you expect a reset at about the 50% mark: that’s your Out… which you don’t seem to get in MvC3, where you don’t need a reset to get to 100%.

My fear is that this is still Week One, and if people are already this beastly, what are things going to look like a year from now? America’s Favorite DHC in Marvel is about an 80% combo or so: all sorts of stuff in Marvel 3 top that.

The nerfed super building in MvC3 is interesting: I wonder how super crazy things would be if it you got meter from whiffs.

It’s a fun game, but it’s really really damaging. Enjoy it for what it is - or go play something else awesome.

Sounds a lot like people want the game to change instead of adapting when they lose. Common for sequels to popular competitive games.

People are this beastly because the execution barrier has been lowered and pros are coming off ten years of playing Marvel 2 at the highest level. X-factor throws a wrench in the natural progression of the two games, and down the road, will either balance out or be declared broken. Even as it is now, you still have to catch someone making a grave mistake to seriously punish them (infinite, full life combo).

I can’t speak for everyone else, but it’s frustrating when you bring up an understandable complaint with any given game and you’re met with legions of people thoughtlessly blurting out ‘deal with it’. Your first paragraph encapsulated both sides pretty nicely, but it’s like: some people just flat out can’t acknowledge that some things in the game are unfairly skewed. I understand where some of them are coming from, given that loads of people are bitching up a storm about Sentinel, but when it turns into this defensive ‘‘WELL DON’T PLAY THE GAME, MAN THE FUCK UP’’ posturing you just want to smack someone. It’s like what, I can’t like Marvel and want it to be improved down the road? I can’t like a game and also see faults with it?

@Preppy, I was referring to X23’s unblockable super on an incoming opponent. I basically agree though, maybe it’s cynical but when I hear people saying wait for strategies and counters to pop up, I’m just feeling (somewhat cynically maybe) based on what we’re already seeing-- the only thing that’s going to develop is even grimier setups and the like. I mean, the solution I’m hearing to busted or OP characters is to simply kill that character. Yeah, that’s kind of the problem. Killing them.

You run into “deal with it” because while you think it’s a big flaw in the game, others disagree. It may be popular opinion that X-Factor Sent is a problem, but we’ve already seen him get demolished by top pros, even when he’s played in capable hands.

People bitch up a storm about a lot of things, and in this day and age of instant gratification, people don’t realize that their first gut reaction isn’t always right.

That’s what it comes down to in the end, or well use to before the days of patches. If there was something “cheap” “OP” or just “too good” you had to deal with it or quit. I know the complaining is just amplified due to the internet nowadays, but it really is (or was depending who you ask) an ineffective way to handle an issue.

Rather fight Sentinel than to deal with keepaway characters harvesting meter for XF3 D.Phoenix.

I fucking despise this game, and its not because of any of the characters. But come the fuck on. You are crying about a character being over powered? If Senitnel isn’t God right now, then its someone else and then you start bitching about him/her again. So just fucking deal with it. Justin Wong, and other players already did your homework for you. What else do you want? Everyone was given Cable AHVB level bullsht. You wanted a game where everyone is viable. You have it now, Lv.3 XFC is a saftey net to make sure even the shittiest of characters playable and you have your shitty variety you fucking stream monsters.

next month’s flavor

Lv.3 XFC Dark Phoenix where people cry that she has this mystical unfair touch of death just using jabs.

Remember when every one said SF4

not have enough damage, was to slow, Ultra, to combo intensive with links, Sagat?

Now its

to much damage, to mush bullshit, XFC, combo’s to easy, Senntinel

Honestly the marvel wave is worse than the SF4 wave.

I am loling at how much of a straw man you sound like.

P.S. You ARE the sf4 wave.

P.S.S. Read up about 2 posts and you will see why this entire post is so hilarious.

Remember when everyone said Iceman Doom and Iron Man were God Tier MvC2?

Give this game time, and quit being so damn salty.

But Vampire Hunter is better.

how so? Sentinel isn’t unbetable god mode that warrants a nerf. Homework was already done by others. So just deal with it, you’ve been given a cheat sheet use it. What you can’t get in? Then its you not the game. Back then you didn’t have people giving you that type of information. Now you have it at the tip of your fingers, so why are people crying? With the advent of the internet and people sharing crap, no one has to acknowledge that anything is unfairly skewered when the information to beat it is out there for free.

The entire argument here is that its the player not the character. the counter is that its the character. My point is that its the player.

and so what if im the sf4 wave.

I had to nominate this post right here. Truth.

^See above. Were those games patched? No. Deal with it or drop the game.

For a recent example, SF4 - some ST & 3S players hated it, and never played again.
Other folks picked it up even though they hated it for that fight money.
Some people just picked it up and got pretty good - some folks mad salty at this; mostly becuase they couldn’t get there themselves even though these newer games were “oh so scrub and mash friendly” - to the point where “I’m doing bad because of these tactics”

Some earlier examples I read about RTS games and ‘no rush’… like really… you shouldn’t be playing said game then.

I think the problem is that Sentinel didn’t have to be so OP. I mean, was there any reason to give this character something like 75% damage off of maybe 5-6 hits plus Super and on top of that give him all of these other advantages like high priority super armor normals, probably the best and most safe projectile assist, and answers to every situation plus a command grab that frankly he didn’t need.

That’s exactly what I’m saying. It’s totally legit to say, whoa whoa, there’s a problem here. Nothing wrong with that. But that’s coming from the perspective (most often) of someone who played a previous version/release of the game.

I’m just saying that conversely for the people who have only played mvc3 nothing is ‘wrong’ because that’s what mvc3 is. They simply know what it is and accept it. Both perspectives are totally in the right and Capcom tries their hardest to please both I believe but it is extremely difficult.

When someone says man up it’s because they’re saying ‘fuck, you care enough to post about this game but you don’t care enough to get good at it?’ I do think that’s a real puss way of going about things personally. The game needs time, without a doubt. Some tournament should run it with lower damage or whatever to see how things go, why not? Everything doesn’t need to be surriousbisness.

That’s 100 percent irrelevant to this thread.

Name one competitive fighting game where that no one can file legitment complaints against.
You can’t. All games have bullshit, it takes the player/community to find ways around that bullshit. And even then, what is actually bullshit is subjective.

Have you ever considered the very fragile nature of competative MvC2? If just a few number of things were different or absent, then the game would have massively changed and might not have been the great competitive game we know today.

I want us to fix the game, not Capcom.

Really now? that’s what you were complaining about? The setups off of that require at the very least 3 meters and x-factor, and is a big investment on behalf of the user. We saw a team based around this idea, but as things develop depending on the nature of meter and x-factor in this game, it may simply end up as a non-viable strategy, or may require a team built around it. Too be honest I don’t really see that setup holding up too well in the long run.

This is basically the best and among the very few good posts in this thread. People like the OP spend too much time writing opinion pieces to jerk themselves off.

Even though Repent did just that?
