You’re comparing the general concept of supers to the specific concept of X-Factor? Seriously?
Hey bro, I’m just ‘not used to it’ yet~
You do realize that he uses EIGHT SUPER METERS to pull that off, right? How is an X-Factor comeback any worse than that?
Same goes for any Third Strike examples. Parry is a comeback mechanic.

Game would be tolerable without X-Factor. It’s a retarded mechanic that shouldn’t even be in games.p/quote]
Yet you take know quarel with the Super bar, a feature that helps people win by what the game defines as “winning,”
All comeback mechanics do is balance out the super meter.
There are many supers that do many of those things, and there have been many mechanics similar to those over the years (Alpha Counter and such)
And you only get one chance to use X-Factor in a match, so they juiced it up for all those mechanics. Makes sense to me.
Except in Marvel, there is more to make up for than just the super meter, the loss of a character is a huge deal and leads to a huge slippery slope.
Sentinel with level 3 X-factor <<<<< A well built team of 3 characters, played by a smart player.
Parry is way worse than XF, imo. It was free to use, lol projectiles, last second block on cross up resulted in parry or block, lol jump in parry. I wouldn’t call it a comeback mechanic though.
How is a parry a comeback mechanic???
it allowed you to guess and if you guess right you get the offense and can do your thing with a comeback. Same with XFC. You can throw it out, and guess and hope your mix up works so you can then proceed to rape. So parry stopped brainless/excessive offense. Just like Ultra’s in SF stopped brainless/excessive offense. And just like XFC stops excessive offense (for now, eventually people will still contunie the offense maybe) and starts your offense. Except parry is almost risk free, and essentially free to do at any time.
Am I wrong (parry)? Maybe most likely, but it stops a lot of crap in its trail. And sets up your offense of what people consider a good read, even though techniclly its still a guess based on intuition.
But you can still zone. Sure no chip damage is done, but he still gets pushed back, and he still needs to do something like jump in, which you can exploit and then proceed to do the longest combo possible. If your team is pure rushdown, well that is your fault for not having what would be considered a more well rounded team.
I know we could play this game of back and forth, but I still don’t see the need for X-factor in this game. I’m fine with it (I acknowledge that it’s dumb, but I’m cool) doing damage and all that other nonsense, but I really don’t see the need for it. If anything I’ll laugh if it happens to make the game overly defensive when people are using it out of blockstun or concocting ways of running away from their opponent when they have it activated.
Ah well~
Here’s a typical scenario (in fact a game I just played recently): A team of Wesker/Skrull/Sent vs a team of Hulk/Sent/Phoenix. The game starts, Wesker combos hulk for around 60% of his life. Hulk then combos Wesker for around 70% of his life. Wesker manages to combo Hulk and kill him. Wesker anticipates an attack from Sent and counter supers. Sent does in fact attack and gets countered into a few combos and goes down easily. Now here’s where it gets interesting. Phoenix is the only remaining character on the second team. She has five hyper bars and an X-Factor available. Knowing how ridiculously overpowered X-Factored Dark Phoenix is, even with around 230% team health available, the first team decides to run away for the remainder of the match. After all, the Phoenix player barely even knows what to do with regular Phoenix and is simply super jumping and launching C fire orbs with the occasional teleport crossover attempt. Player one looks at the clock and sees 59 seconds remaining.
“Fuck this”, says Player 1, “I’m not gonna run around for a minute straight dodging lame fireballs”.
Player 1 sends out Skrull and easily manages to take out Phoenix. Phoenix then turns into Dark Phoenix, X-Factor 3’s, and promptly defeats the opposing team members in less than 10 seconds.
Now what could Player 1 have done in that situation? He could have not killed Phoenix, instead sticking with the initial plan of keepaway which would have a large probability of success, even with 59 seconds still remaining. He could have opted for a snap back in order to stop Phoenix from transforming, however that would mean the opponent would have to screw up twice (once to get snap backed, and two to fail to block properly before getting her out again). That would help significantly in the long run, but there is still the threat of a X-Factor 3 Sentinel or Hulk attack, while they are no Dark Phoenix, they still have large reaching attacks and high hit points. It is also true that you also have a level 3 X-Factor, however in order to get it, assuming they have already activated theirs, you either have to get two characters killed, leaving your third character slowly falling from mid height at a significant disadvantage, or throw out a sacrificial assist, chancing both characters getting killed at the same time. So how do you (the person who actually read this wall of text or anyone that just skimmed the bottom) deal with a five hyper bar Phoenix with X-Factor 3 at the ready?
You also forgot “kill Phoenix then kill dark Phoenix” as a potential strategy for this player 1
Anemone realizes that the super bar was the original comeback mechanic, right?
As for the “need” comment, you don’t actually need any subsystem, they just add depth.
I read the whole thing, I have no life.
If my Wesker is on point I’d get the initial KO over with and get PMS Jean in there. Assuming my Sent is alive I’d use his assist try and create an opening to land one solid combo.
I bodied his team, and your scenario hints that the opposing player is not good, so I will win by playing smart. All the tools in the world can’t change that.
Hey I don’t see the need for Sentinel to be so damn strong in this game but I’m not one of the developers.
Still personally thinks that if Sentinel wasn’t so strong 90% of the complaints about X-Factor would disappear
Let’s ignore the fact that x-23 has an infinite with x-factor, hulk can completely wipe a team with x-factor gamma crush, morrigan can permanently lock you in blockstring with level 2 or 3 x-factor and a level 1 super, etc. etc.
Can we get a thread dedicated exclusively to whining so the forum isn’t so polluted?
How the fuck does that make any sense? Yeah sure, a dog could possibly be more intelligent than a human being but if all it can do is fucking bark, that’s not going to lead to and sort of conversation, even less a debate. By this logic, I should just say “yur wrung lulz” and come out intelligent. That’s horseshit.

Wong was the one who said he’s fucking cheap in the first place. Did that change? Last I checked he didn’t lose armor, a command throw, his ability to zone full screen, fly, have normals that stretch half the screen, his damage output, his godly assist and the list goes on. All these combined simply outperform every other character and make it so instead of being viable to a team, vital. On 1 meter, if you make the slightest mistake, you’ll eat 600-700k worth of damage. Easily. Looking at the entire scope and skill range, some changes to him would benefit the game.
As for X-factor, the damage output is too high for some characters. Doing twice the damage that you’re intended to, when you’re already hitting people at half or close to their full health is a little much.
IMO that’s why it’s not necessary.
This is not exclusive to Sentinel.
The amount of effort required is. All they need to do is nerf his damage, nerf his health a slight, and buff his fly.
Hahaha so now characters whose bread and butters aren’t difficult to input need nerfs? Boy are you gonna’ be a sad panda when people have more time with the game and even more obscene shit becomes commonplace.
