The Old Newbie Thread

Funny you should mention that, Ouroborous means infinity I think.

quick noob question

what do i do when my character is defeated and the next one comes out and the opponent sends out an assist on one side and then attacks from the other? Is this blockable?

Yeah, just block whichever character is on point. It doesn’t matter which side of you the assist is on, you still block it by holding the stick away from their point character.

EDIT: Now if they’re guard breaking you, that’s a whole different story-- and how to escape that depends on which characters you’re both using. If you’re not sure what guard breaking is, read this article:

Hopefully that will help

questions

Ok, I couldn’t find any where to ask this, so I guess this is the best place. I need to know a few things… How do u launch people like the computer does, they will hit me in the air and they are up there with me hitting me do they have to sj,then dash then keep hitting me or something? Whats the best way to launch and keep going with an attack?

Guard break don’t quite understand that, how do u do it?

How do u xx out of moves (cancel) mainly out of ahvb, I’ve seen a guy do three of them in a row, well I can only get one, and then I try another he hits the ground and won’t move for a second by that time the other guy is up and going.

I don’t understand when people say s.fk how can you do a instant s.fk if you have to connect a lk, hit it again for a fk? do you connect a c.lk, into a s.fk is that what they mean?

How do you grap, how do u grap good should I say?

Can you tell me some good characters with T.Bonne to have? what order, assists and crap? Also Jugglernut, Cable(I think I pretty much know his but I want some oppins), and guiles. Thx ^.^.
Edit: oh yeah and Doctor doom,

Any info you can give me about this game would be helpful, cuz I’m a complete newb basicly, I just know a few things, like Cables c.lk,s.hp,ahvb. Thx in advance ^.^

Guard breaks work like this:

Everyone gets one action (attacking or blocking) in a normal jump and when you kill a character and the next one comes in, they come in normal jump mode.

The whole theory behind guardbreaking is making them block something to use up their action and then after the block stun wears off they won’t be able to block anymore so you can hit them with something.

Cable’s guard break works like this:

Jump up foward hp, when they are about to come in, land, AHVB (try to time it after they let go of their block because if you do it too quick they’ll be able to block because they are still in block stun from the j. hp)

Check the cable section, I’m pretty sure it’s in one of the stickied threads.

Any help on canceling, or grabbing(like best time to do it and how), also how do you launch people and keep going with them in the air? I usally use Sential,Cable,T-Bonne. They seem pretty good I probably need to throw out T-Bonne and add some one else in.

T-Bonne is a great assist, it does alot of damage just pick V (the third one) assist

Cancelling what exactly? you just input the command for the move you want to cancel into in the middle of the move you are currently doing.

You grab when you think they’ll block and afraid to attack or move, you get really close and do foward+hp or foward+hksome characters only have one throw so only one of those will work.

Keep them in the air? Air combo or infinite?

Only some people have infinites it seems a little to advance for you at the moment but a normal air combo is:

launch ^ (press up) j. lp, j. lk, j. mp, j. mk, j. hp or j. hk

Thx for the info, about the air combo stuff, thats what I meant. I checked into the infins. I’m not rdy to learn storms, c.hk,sj,dash I’ll learn that once I get my basic team down(Sent, cable, doctor doom) Or I’ll throw out doctor doom for T-bonne. I’m just a complete newb on this :p, I can’t under stand when people are talking at the sent thread like… the only combos a beginner needs is:
c.lk, s.lp, rp, hsf
launch, sj.lp, sj.lp, rp
f.lk, f.lk, dp rp

I don’t know what people mean when they say round house (like how to input it) what does hsf mean? I’m pretty sure its the qcf+kk? rp,dp don’t know what that is. When people say s.fk with sent does that mean qcf+lk or hk? How do you cancel the ahvb? I can’t seem to only get one off when there launched in the air (which is not on purpose launching lol), how do u get assist to launch? I’ve seen people play with characters, and assist and they will help them launch, well when I hit the assist button they just want to do a beam attack, like Doctor Doom his beat (do you have to input something for them to help launch)? What does AAA assist mean?

With Sent you’ll want to learn the basic c./s.FP XX Rocket Punch XX HSF. Then you can add on from there.

there’s a combo I don’t understand maybe you could help me, c./ what does the / mean? c. into s.FP? while you do s.FP you input rocket punch qcf+hp then cancel into his qcf+kk during the animation of rocket punch? Also people are talking about unfly/fly attacks, what do they mean? u hit qcb+kk then cancel the fly into an attack? How do u cancel the fly?

Another thing about cable. He’s a turtler right? I usally assist him with doctor doom if I have him on the assist, and hit hp,hp and if the hp,hp hits I’ll cancel into ahvb. If they get close I’ll call sent in to help, and do his qcf+hp. I sometimes can get c.lk,s.hp,s.hp,xx,ahvb is that good? What others does he have? Thx ^.^, oh yeah one more thing, how offten do u sj? Is there a reason to do it when the oppent is far away? Like with Doctor Doom I’ll qcb+kk and do his attacks in the air, and call cable for assist on ground. Like… qcb+k while I call assist that works pretty good.

Thx for the help in advance I know thats a lot of questions, but once they get answer lol I got a feeling I’ll have a lot more : ( thx in advance again :stuck_out_tongue: :encore:

All these damn abbreviations (can’t spell), I don’t even understand it.

Hows it going?

I was watching CanadavsEmpire5on5 before and seen good old J wong do somthing I havn’t seen before. He was prety much pinned in the corner with mags, then the oponent moved back a bit. He called out AAA cable and activated his MT. But the thing is he DHC’d to cable and he instantly went from AAA to AHVB. What’s happened here? Obviously I can see what’s happened, but I mean technicaly, not to be rude.

Is this an example of frame killing?

So Im not exactly a noob at marvel, but I’m not intermediate either. Realy I’ve got most of my basic marvel shit together but am unsure which is the next thing to move on to.

At the minute I can do my basic SF stuff like specials, supers cancels bladi blah(in comparison to other SF’s). I’m concistant with the magic series, launching, ariel raves and extending them with specials and or supers, but thats about it.

I know I need to become better with my asists, but it’s quite confusing at times, I hardly use them. When I play it seems you can only call and assist if your in normal mode, and not during any specialor super. Is this right?

When I try and experiment in training some of the techniques involved with assists seem to be quite similar to kara canceling in 3s. What I mean like is, say I was going to activate a special, but wanted the asist out at the same time. Would I do it like this? d, df, asist, f+p. This is a prety similar technique to KC by the timing of the button presses, I.e drumming.

I only have the jap version on DC and lack of characters is a pain in the ass. Probably my best two are strider and doom, even though I still suck. But I can’t use the assists to extend combos, lock down, do extra damage etc. because I don’t know when to time my assist.

Who’s a good character to put with strider/doom who I will have? I only have the characters I can get, damn point system. Storm any good(even though I’m shit with her too)?

Any techniques, advice/info on assists and timing would be most apreciated. Thanks.

Yeah hard to understand what there talking about, hopefully some one will post about what I mentioned.

Gee guys, I don’t know WHERE you could find info on the lingo… there should be some kinda Newbie thread for this huh?

http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45127&page=1

Come on guys, try a little.

I’m still fairly new to MvC2. I have to learn to play at an arcade so there is no time for me to just sit around and practice stuff. This makes it sort of difficult to practice new characters and combos. So I’ve stuck with Magneto and Cable as my two main characters since they’re easy to transition rather than Sentinel and Storm (too big and too fast). They’re also featured in many videos.

Now I have to choose a nice assist character for them. My concern is that since I’m not very good yet I may have to rely on this assist character for more than just assisting. So between Cyclops, Captain Commando, Psylocke, Iron-Man and Dr. Doom, who is the best standalone assist character to have? I guess that I should also add that I play against a variety of teams, but most of them have Sentinel in them. Thanks!

Just need to learn basics

Yeah I got the lingo or will. But what should I learn, like with 3s You gotta learn drumming, linking, canceling, super-canceling hit-confirming, and parrying.

With tekken its about mix-ups, throws, side-stepping, and best juggles for each launcher in each situation.

MvC2 = ?

Dont yall have a guide or something, of the complete basics, I mean this Q & A doesnt really help much and when I do ask a question I get flamed for not knowing the answer. Sorta redundant dont ya think? Ne who, thx for the flames in advanced for posting.

Check the first post of this thread: http://db.gamefaqs.com/coinop/arcade/file/marvel_vs_capcom_2_beginners.txt. It had this link in it.

I skimmed that file a few months back. I learned most of the basics by talking to players at my arcade that were nice enough to help me out.

BTW I’m also shifting from Tekken.

GrayHat, I’ll try to help you as much as I can. But keep in mind that I haven’t even been playing for over a year and haven’t formally learned the game yet.

From Tekken notation, it’s sort of like this: d/f+2 (universal launcher–just like in Tekken), u/f, 1, 3, 1, 3, 2. That basic string will do a few hits and then throw the opponent back down. Other characters have variations and can go into supers.

Guard break involves the opponent character coming in. The MvC2 system allows a character coming in to do only one thing (block or attack). After one, they’re just falling. So guard break forces them to block, lets them fall, and then hits them again while they can’t block. A more detailed one is in the articles section of shoryuken.com

To cancel AHVB into AHVB you have to be really quick. It’s not the same as cancelling other moves. Cancelling would be like 2, 2, f, n, d, d/f+2 really fast (shoot, shoot, skimitar) with Cable. AHVB is just a glitch that allows you to do consistent supers.

I don’t know this either. I’m in the same boat as you.

Don’t know.

I guess T. Bonne’s main thing is to add pressure and chip. I’d suggest characters that have some safe pokes and projectiles. Famous teams are Juggernaut and Doom or Magneto and Storm.

have u clicked on that link lately? It doesnt work, I get an error the page is not found.

Thats why I asked about it.

right click on it and go to properties, copy the full link and paste it on your url and it should work.

Sorry about that. I use firefox and it works fine. Although I do remember the problem occurring when I had Internet Explorer.

Otherwise you could just go to gamefaqs.com > Arcade > Marvel VS Capcom 2.
