The Official Wii U thread V.1.1 - Sun Sets on Wii U, Switch Over In March

Rayman Legends may have picked up the date of Feb 26th

So according to this http://ca.ign.com/articles/2012/11/29/wii-u-cpu-gpu-details-uncovered the wii-u is barely currently gen. Guess it really is just the wii graphics with HD settings, that could be why all the launch games look like HD ports of wii games.

Rumor that will make everyone who doesn’t own a Wii U mad below-

YOU’RE TOO SLOOOOWWWW!!!

all the launch games look like HD ports of wii games? If you’re talking about NSMBWU then maybe I can see that…but at the same time even though this game (i’m actually playing it right now) is using simple textures for the most part…I’m fairly certain that the Wii couldn’t handle this…that’s not saying much though. I’m also fairly certain that Wii wouldn’t be able to handle NintendoLand, ZombiU, Darksiders II, etc. Even though a game isn’t using bump mapping for every texture doesn’t mean anything if it’s more so a choice on the developer.

I don’t believe that at all lol. I wouldn’t wish Darkstalkers to be exclusive on any 1 platform. People thought Bayonetta would suffer from being exclusive to 1 platform? lol…

I say this though…and then I think back to some of Capcom’s decisions for the past couple of years and the smile and laughter just…kind of fades…

If there is no arcade version of the new Darkstalkers then it is a game dead on arrival.

Reading through that rumors article and getting to the part about Darkstalkers 4… SRK Illuminati would have to shut the site down for a couple days if that turns out true. There’d be so much crying from angry nerds their salty tears would permeate through the fabric of virtual space and short circuit the servers.

Capcom is reluctant to finance DS4 but they are listening to Ninja Theory pitch a possible sequel to Onimusha. Are you fucking kidding me? Onimusha, a series that draws from Japanese mythology (although some of the demons are named after Shakespeare characters) and the Sengoku period may be made by a UK developer, led by Tameem and described as Okami with guts? Okay, put me on the waiting list of haters ready to shit on this game at every opportunity if that happens.

As for the Nintendo related rumors. Good for them if they’re actively seeking third party developers and are willing to fund new games. For starters, it shows Bayonetta 2 wasn’t just a one-time thing but more importantly, too many studios have closed this generation and it’s good for the industry and the smaller-sized devs who may have a great idea for a game but when they approach most publishers their ideas are deemed not worth the investment as it’s not AAA enough, or so to speak. As long as Nintendo doesn’t meddle with development (censorship, forcing multiplayer which sacrifices the single player experience) and let devs make the games they want to make then I’m all for their strategy.

Here’s one idea, get in touch with Tim Schafer and talk about the possibility bringing back the Adventure genre. Maybe see about porting Double Fine Adventure to Wii U. Adventure games don’t require cutting edge tech to tell a great story and with touch screens point-and-click Adventure games can finally be viable on consoles when traditionally they’ve been PC only.

Heh sorry just glanced and didnt notice you beat me to it:(

I kind of disagree.

Last gen and wii by extension had plenty of games which IMO could easily match the visual quality of those games…at least to the point that the difference isn’t quite that impressive. Games like mario galaxy, brawl and even conduit had impressive looking models and graphics that I think wouldn’t be that off from what we see in year 1 wii games. I’d say WiiU games look like more"clean"last gen games but I don’t think the leap is as drastic as I was expecting.

I know expecting great things are a bit illogical especially since its not even the 1st month, but every game developed from the ground up for the WiiU doesn’t even look as good as current 360 and PS3 titles. I guess while being a graphics whore is pointless, I was at least expecting WiiU games to look as good as gears or uncharted.

So…

Is anyone else down as fuck for Monster Hunter?

I won’t lie, the Monster Hunter franchise is the only thing that would make me buy a Wii U.

There’s plenty of games I’m excited to see them do on that system. Metroid Prime, a new Zelda, Smash Bros…

The potential that lies in a WiiU Metroid Prime makes me moist.

I’ll reserve excitement for those franchises when Nintendo announces them. That, and Skyward Sword/Other M/Brawl really rubbed me the wrong way.

Never played Skyward.

Disregard other M, Corruption was incredible.

Brawl was dicks when compared to Melee. The game was fun on a casual level for sure but it didn’t feel nearly as good as Melee did, which is something I hope they fix in the next installment.

All I’m hoping for is another Melee experience, another Metroid PRIME game, and a Zelda that looks as awesome as the tech demo at E3 did.

Who is “down as fuck” for a new Star Fox gaming experience? But Nintendo, please give me the ability to choose my teams/kill them and have them not reduce my points. I can’t play a game where Krystal AND Slippy are both on my Fucking team.

Monster Hunter looks incredibly fun. I never played any of the games so I wouldn’t know if it is.

I can imagine star fox being one of the games using a second gamepad

I love Star Fox since the SNES but I have officially given up on the idea of them ever doing one close to Star Fox 64 unless they have a studio outside of Japan handle the game. Miyamoto and I suspect other Nintendo heads have the wrong idea of what makes the series good and seem obsessed with trying to “fix” the game play instead of expanding or refining worked in the series best games. They then wonder what went wrong when the audience doesn’t respond to thing like forced on foot missions or strategy game play (which I hear wasn’t that bad but still not the Star Fox game fans of the series want).

I hear of a Star Fox game for Wii U, I’ll be excited but cautious as fuck.

THANK YOU! Star Fox 64 was my personal favorite N64 game( well, its either tied or just under Super Smash Bros). All they need to do is make a game that plays like that and give it more levels and content. Assualt and Command were steps in the right direction, so I trust Nintendo. The 3DS Remake was also a step in the right direction. All the game needs is 3 things

  1. No more land combat except maybe 1 Landmaster Level ( If you couldn’t beat that robot, you deserved to go to Titania. He was pretty easy. )
  2. No Dinosaurs and any of that B.S. Just stop Andross again!
  3. No Strategy game play, just let me fly the damn Arwing, curse at Slippy, call Falco a douchebag and enjoy myself, leave that strategy stuff to R.O.B.

I don’t know why you would be expecting Uncharted or Gears quality on day 1. PS3 came out the tail end of 2006 and then Uncharted came out the year after and 360 came out 2005 while Gears came out 1 year afterwards. Both of those games had been cooking for at least 2 years with 1 year of development after their consoles had been released. Conduit looks nice and High Voltage did a good job with their Quantum 3 engine to push it as far as they could on Wii but I’d feel I’d be lying if I said that game matched up graphically to even Black Ops 2 up close…A game that has been using a modification of an engine used in CoD4.

Speaking of which…what the hell is HVS doing anyway?

Also I’ve been ready for Monster Hunter. I want that game RIGHT NOW. I’m disappearing off the face of the Earth once that game gets released.

I missed out on Monster Hunter tri for the wii just came out at a bad time but will pick up the Wii U version for sure. I also wonder if they are going to improve the online in any way? gotta google that.

I have been hearing really great things about the miiverse and I am actually quite surprised as I thought it originally sounded dumb. Weren’t there talks of bringing it to 3ds?
