The Official Toonami Thread: Fight tha powa!

I dunno why you guys are complaining about HSotD’s fanservice when the guy who illustrates it is a porn doujin artist first, and manga artist second. Shit can’t be helped.

I won’t complain about the fanservice, but I will argue that it’s a mediocre manga at best.

Duh. Would be a good ratings boot for Toonami though.

HSotD is a cheap thrill like the B horror films it’s inspired by.

Of course, I love cheesy so I’m waiting to see how it all ends.

Would it really be though?

Was that what Toonami was about when I was nine? Ratings?

Or was it about showing the hypest shit in a cool atmosphere?

I think if we start caring about ratings more than the integrity of Toonami, we lost.

Before, there was not ONE bad show on Toonami, (Naruto was the downfall, but even then, the firs 50 episodes of Naruto were pretty good), and I don’t think it was because of ratings.

A: more creative opportunities to create a good “story” unless your mixing ongoing story with basic series plot. (comparing 300+ vs 30 )
B: The setting is what influences the anime/manga in a nutshell. If its a fantasy world you can literally have more leeway to pull stuff out of your ass and call it relevant story while if its in a realistic setting you got to be careful and make sure it follows the rules of everyday life to an extent thus limits your creative opportunities to make a “masterpiece story” thats not been done before (again this was a response on how Negima! can get interesting since the story can literally turn a 360 direction and have a complex story whiles HOTD does use a cliche series plot (its using a realistic setting so thats a given) But it does shine on what it delivers.

The ecchi tolerance again all comes down to personal tastes but have to disagree that it distracts from the overall story. Even if the Ecchi is happening during zombie killing scenes i can hardly call it a turn off if the zombie kill scenes are serious enough to outweigh the ecchi (which a typical harem does not try to do)

Saying that the characters have no character development situations is a joke there were SEVERAL situations (and did not have fan-service happening at same time) from the anime alone. In the manga the whole Mall arc has character develop. moments especially the military otaku.

Lets just agree to disagree; you think its meh while i think its a solid toonami lineup title

Agreed this dragged too long here is a Toonami Writeup impressions for last night. Its a good read

Toonami had bad shows. Most of the shit they added post-2004 was horrible. Zatch Bell, Rave Master, Zoids, Bobobobo. All garbage

You didn’t like Bobobo, or Rave Master, or Zoids?

I think they were pretty average, and I cut a clear line between “average” and “bad”.

Nothing bad about them really stuck out.

Also, Number 13, that’s a damn lie.

Shin Angyo Onshi was good the entire way through.

Akira was a short manga and was fantastic.

But there is shit like Air Gear that LASTS TOO LONG AND SUFFERS FOR IT.

No, Toonami when you were young had more shonen orientated shows with gundam/mechas :woot: (not counting Toonami Midnight Run) and as much as we want to believe that Toonami was made for the people it still needs money to cover expense and get new titles. Dragon Ball Z was most hyped sh1t on the lineup and it brought ratings so they kept it until the series ended. (and then came GT :lame:) Ratings and the integrity of the NEW Toonami compared to the old Toonami is different. Naruto on the lineup felt like they were focusing on making the next DBZ, Which all came down to personal preference on how you received of the show (could not stand Naruto (the character) being dubbed it felt as bad as one-peice (4kids). However its naive to blame Naruto for killing Toonami. It was a sequence of events of bad overall reactions of their later shows, the internet growing, change of management due to the ATHF movie incident in Boston, and failing to attract the next generation (ToM 4 was nail in coffin)

Lie on what? You bringing up examples to attempt to contradict the grand schemes of things don’t change anything if I were to pick a couple examples where it does rely on the fantasy aspect to create a story. And…now I take your opinion on how you consider HOTD “mediocre story” when you say Bobobo and Rave Master are Average irrelevant now. (Granted I did not watch Zoids so not gonna judge something i did not see)

Naruto was a key ingredient in the killing of Toonami.

A large portion of people wanted Naruto and nothing else, and Toonami delivered, execs finally said “Why even have toonami if Naruto is the only thing airing on it, might as well just air Naruto and drop toonami”, and they did.

Though everything else you say is true, especially the Boston Bomb Incident.

Actually, they could put SEL or Technoxlyze and have that replace GITS, there, all the darkness and painfully sad story you could ever want.

The show Naruto as a whole was a MINIOR factor at BEST on why Toonami was losing steam. There were MAny factors that I discussed in the above post that if you did minimum research you would realize how INSIGNIFICANT a single show was in the grand scheme of things. Never realized why the “Naruto killed Toonami” bandwagon suddenly emerged back in Toonami final days. Guess it was a scapegoat to yell at. (Not a Naruto fan but i don’t blame things without reason/logic)

You can’t say that Naruto didn’t matter.

I’m not going around saying that it was a bad thing, but it’s a case of supply and demand.

The majority of people demanded MORE Naruto, which left less room for other shows, execs soon noticed that Naruto made them way more money then anything else.

Hence, during the last stages of Toonami, it was just Naruto, or do you not remember that 72 HOUR NARUTO MARATHON, or that Naruto movie marathon, or that “catch up because you missed it” Naruto marathon?

The move to Saturday also did alot to kill Toonami. It went from having 16 hours a week to 4 hours. Those 4 hours got cut down to two by the time Naruto got on it and decided that would be the show the network would shove down peoples throats.

I kind of want Toonami to give a huge middle finger for just one Saturday and plat the most depressing shit.

Serial Experiments Lain, Technolyxe, Noir, The Flower We Say That Day, The Last Light on Earth, Grave of The Fireflies.

No i clearly said it contributed as a minor factor to Toonami final days. Same was said about DBZ that show had a RIDICULOUS amount of marathons/movie showings that took airtime from the other shows. Naruto tried to be the next DBZ while having a crap lineup that did not appeal the later generation. If Naruto existed while a more solid lineup was alive then Naruto doing its marathons would be irrelevant. Supply and Demand happened badly due to terrible new management which in turn lead to less quality lineups and trying to inflate the Naruto hype artificially. This happened because the rise of the internet streams pressured them to try to compete and made Toonami a shadow of its former self. It was more of what was happening behind the scenes that were the main ingredients that contributed to killing Toonami. At best Naruto was the poster-boy of those said ingredients who bragged about polishing the murder weapon thus why i consider the Naruto reason minor since some other show could have been the “naruto” and the cycle would have led to its natural conclusion regardless

So, Naruto killed toonami becuase it was too good? I don’t get your logic, because the same would have happened with DBZ. Naruto, if anything, kept Toonami alive for the time that it was on. Toonami died thanks to a bunch of shitty decisions made by the big ups. Remember 2005? Everything that was not IGPX, Naruto, or bobobobobobo was shit that was already played and way ahead in episodes on other channels, in one case on the SAME CHANNEL (Teen Titans was ahead on Miguzi) They tried to have toonami jetstream, which brought us Hikaru, Prince of Tennis, and Mar (later they played dragon ball) It failed however, for some reason. A LOT of things killed toonami, including the internet. Don’t blame naruto, it was actually good. Leagues better compared to shippuden, which is stop Akatsuki, the series, with meaningless filler here and there.

I don’t even know what toonami’s next action series will be. One Piece is godlike, buut moves waaay to slow. Hunter X Hunter 2011 isn’t dubbed yet, and bleach is trash. What can be that one show everyone looks forward to on toonami? DBZ did it for the first Generation and the second. Naruto did it for the third generation. The fourth generation didn’t exist though.

HOTD really has no story, it’s simply a pair of breast trying not to get eatin by zombies and some casual looking dudes protecting those breast for themselves. It’s way too censor heavy and I don’t see Toonami picking it up showing every bit of detail. It’s pretty clear though that the weakest links on Toonami is Cowboy Bebop and SAC. These shows just gotta go, they are just wasted time slots even though I like both. Someone mention Panty and Stocking–now that’s a very good choice. D.Gray Man wouldn’t be so bad either.

I can agree with this.

Toonami is currently airing Deadman Wonderland and it has more gore than HotD. Shows like the Boondocks feature nudity on occasion and apply the appropriate censorship without altering the content. While HotD has tons of ecchi there’s only been one instance (to my knowledge) of bare boobs. Considering they want to license Panty and Stocking and that show is even more obscene heavy censorship will not be a problem.

I REALLY don’t want to see Panty and Stocking dubbed.

Also, despite the entire show’s premise, nothing about PandS showed too much, there was that one episode that was all about some dude’s sperm not getting the chance to cum inside of Panty, but it was so clever, I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of people don’t get it.
