The Official Toonami Thread: Fight tha powa!

Wow, you don’t even know the show at all if you think its all ecchi and calling it “porn” is a joke.(the Ova was a fan service episode granted, but it focused on the comedy aspects, nothing Hentai territory at all) If you do then you completely missed the point. If the show focused on being ecchi then it would be ignored or not that hyped out in west because there would be dozens of other anime that is all fan service/ecchi. It accurately portrayed the utter chaos and mayhem that the beginnings of a zombie apocalypse would show. It also showed the lengths people would go to in order to survive, such as cutting ties with friends, family, significant others, etc. The person who is your best friend one minute may very well be pushing you full-force towards a ravenous
horde of zombies the next minute, all in the name of self-preservation. That being said I can See HOTD season 1 on The **NEW **Toonami because I seen the block and there were sexual content/ecchi moments. With some obvious censoring on certain scenes This would be a solid show on Toonami. Season 2 has already been Green lit July 2011 (after the official showing of the OvA) and this can be a good investment for Toonami for seasons (Code Geass and FMA had different appearances). HOTD would literally be a success in the block and generate high ratings(and no not because of the fan-service) after it replaces the older shows.

A 40 sec vid of the whole atmosphere of HOTD in a nutshell if you don’t want to read my little rant Edit: btw the Glasses Characters being the antagonists is such a trend lol

um, what would virgins need with condoms? My hands aren’t THAT dirty…I think.

-Starhammer-

Mirai Nikki/Future Diary would do well.

Please. No. Mirai Nikki is shit.

I always get a kick watching that scene. She wiped her ass with the concept of best friends forever.

Here is a good read regarding the Toonami block last night and how we can keep it on the air or its gonna be a repeat of the Inuyasha nonsense of it being pulled and put back numerous times. http://www.csicon.org/last-nights-toonami-premiere/

Got to do what you got to do so you don’t end up dead over a trivial concept of “friendship” (yes I’m looking at you Yu-Gi-OH!) Look how Grandad utilizes this concept in HOTD well

Apparently, Steve Blum is doing the voice work for Toonami for free. “for love”, as Jason DeMarco (co-creator and producer for Toonami) put it.

Steve Blum is a bro. That’s dedication

Reading the article, Michiko and Hatchin would be perfect for Toonami. I love that show

That is twelve different flavors of silly.

I would be enjoying it, until they try to appeal to 14 year old boys. I honestly can’t believe that you guys are denying that it was a problem becuase at times the ecchi got more time then the fucking premise of the show. It was REALLY annoying and i felt immature for watching it.

The ecchi did detract from the martial a couple times but it didn’t take over the series like your making it out to be. The only time it took center stage was during the breather periods like the OVA and when the group was hiding out at Nurse’s friend house.

no offense, but you dudes are gay. i don’t masturbate to that stuff on a daily basis, but i don’t get mad or phased out over ecchi. it’s just 2d women

Ok i get that the ecchi moments felt akward for you fair enough, however in the grand scheme of things it was NOT aiming at “14 year old boys” as their core demographic viewers. In all honesty the atmosphere of the show aimed at the demographic of ages 17-35. Can the ecchi scenes be a negative to the average viewer? Yes. Can the ecchi scenes ruin the the show as a whole to the average viewer? No. At least not that factor alone because its NOT an ecchi focused anime thats part of the plot (example the main character is not focusing on banging his “harem” he is trying to survive in a zombie apocalypse) The ACTION easily outshines the ecchi and one of the main charms of the series as well as the PLOT thats happening to the main characters as well as the side characters that the main cast encounters. If you feel Immature for watching that because you are prone to ecchi itself then thats a personal issue not the show issue

edit: Yes the OVA (It was a fan-service OvA that had nothing to do with the main plot so it can’t be associated with the main series as it was made for fun like what they did with 11 Eyes) and a few scenes can get over-the top unnecessary (namely the bath scene at the apartment) but like i said in the Grand scheme of things it does not kill the show

If I wanted Bullets and Breasts, I’d might as well rewatch Mezzo Forte.

I don’t really care either way about ecchi, so what, as long as it’s good.

Negima! was ecchi as fuck, but it never lost base with it’s story, or it’s action, so it stayed readable until the end.

Hell, I play Skullgirls, and Vanguard Princess, and Melty Blood, and Eternal Fighter Zero, and Arcana Heart 3, so I don’t want hear anyone say I have a problem with ecchi.

Lmao Negima! had the largest harem ever i believe and the girls had Shotacon issues :shake: . Decent show/Manga though that does get serious once they get into the Magical World. In any case HOTD in not “bullets and breasts” like you said if thats what i cared about there are dozens of anime like that such as *Koihime Musou :wow: *(ok granted its spears/swords instead of guns but you get my point lol)

Exactly.

HOTD doesn’t do that, the reason being the story wasn’t fleshed out enough to begin with.

They WERE doing a good job with explaining how zombies survived in their universe (no eyes meant they relied on their ears, no pain, but would progressively become weaker with every passing day, since no white blood cells mean no battling infection, no proper red blood cells means that during the summer or winter, they would be fucked, the kids just needed to survive until then.)

But then, it got BAD, again.

The things I found bad were the small instances of world politics and the traditionalists. The USA and Russia use the zombie outbreak as an excuse to launch their nuclear weapons at each other for no apparent reason. Traditionalists that weren’t Saya’s parents were ignorant morons and tools.

How does it go BAD again? Negima! had a magical complex world to fallback on to create “story” thats only limited to the authors/creator imagination and until then it was all just Negi and his classroom harem having sitcom style situations(not saying its bad series) . HOTD takes place in Modern Day Japan with the theme of Realism during a Chaotic situation. (yes thats a stretch since anime characters can defy physics in their actions by doing complex maneuvers but thats a given) The story is how the main cast deals with themselves/personal issues and their interactions with other survivors during a zombie apocalypse. The Knowledge about the zombies was from the pink hair girl doing trial/errors to figure out how they act in general, but they are high school students… no way that the students or in fact anyone would be experts on what the zombies can or can’t do. Up until the end (NOT COUNTING OVA) they kept expressing the theme of self-preservation within their little group. At most they can do at the moment besides being survivors was introducing a main antagonist for them. They can’t conveniently create more new content to the story without careful thought because its not fantasy (besides zombies existing everything else is made realistic even to basic human psychology) Even though the TOTAL story is not much compared to Negima! (which is not a relevant comparison) what story it does have has been fleshed out as much possible of what the the group has to deal with. Note your also comparing a complete series(300+ chapters of content on a fantasy setting) over one with barely 30 chapters following real life mixed with zombie chaos

Lol yeah but this is Japan PoV on the 1960-1990 “super powers” and tried to simulate the Cuban Missile Crisis but instead its on zombies:rofl: and yeah the “traditionalists” were humans who failed to adapt to the situation and got shafted by Natural Selection in that insane world lol

I am not calling the show bad, even though it is not that good. But it seriously did look like a kid made the entire thing. Like honest opinion. I can’t watch that show seriously, becuase every time i do, “Lets just put this panty shot and ecchi scene here.” It was a prevalent problem with the show and it could have done FAR better without. It is honestly overrated, especially with all of the other issues the show has other than the ecchi. Its decent, but by no means a masterpeice.

OVA is OVA, which is irrelevant.

Fuck this lets talk about toonami.

What does A:Length, B:Setting, have to do with a good story?

If a story is good, then it’s good.

HOTD wasn’t, it was displayed well, but it was shitty.

You’re getting “Plot” and “Presentation” mixed up, HOTD had great presentation, but was just as good as any other shitty horror movie.

What does HOTD do that sets it apart from the rest?

The characters are by the most static (They never really grow, the author just puts the characters in a situation where they need to act differently, or they die, it’s not like any of the development during that scene stayed with any of the characters.)

The story itself, was decent, nothing to write home about, (Zombies happening, they want to survive, they want to find their families), not only was it mediocre, but it followed the formula to a T, once again, NOTHING TO WRITE HOME ABOUT.

All in all, it would have been an okay manga, but then awful ecchi is injected into the manga, which takes away all the seriousness of the situation, (I’m okay with dissonance, when done right, it’s cool, and if it was done afterwords, fine, but it was done IN THE SAME SCENE AS KILLING ZOMBIES, where am I supposed to feel like one of the main characters could die, when they’re flashing, how am I supposed to hold on to the effect of just watching a shocking scene, instead of showing the character’s reactions, they go into a bath scene, and try to use it as a medium for the character’s frustration, which doesn’t work, since it’s focusing on the bathing rather then the character, might as well left that scene out)
