I agree that it isn’t the same…in fact, it’s way better. Netflix is pretty much perfect for the average joe who would have problems turning off UAC. VLC is pretty much the next step in line for the guy who knows how to turn off UAC but doesn’t know why he did it other than to get rid of annoying pop ups. Then you have the ten minutes of learning for torrents and streaming options, which may not even be required. All you really need to do is find a torrent client you like, read the quick guide…google CCCP…and you’re basically set. This stuff just gets easier and easier. You want to watch it on the couch? Buy a 10$ HDMI cable or do another ten minute session of learning with TVersity. A lot of source material from Japan is airing in 720p/1080p now anyway.
But, you’re right that it’s not really the point. I’d watch Toonami if they brought it back just for the fuck of it. Nostalgia goggles, Tom, potentially hilarious dub jobs, watching stuff without wasting bandwidth, finding new shows just by killing time. And get kids off this “Drama Island” shit spree (or whatever the fuck they air on CN now.)
I don’t see why you care so much? o_O I mean seriously? If they want to talk about the good ol’ days, then let them, it isn’t hurting anyone(not to my knowledge) so why should it matter?
It’s not quite that simple. Many ISP’s put a bandwidth limit up, even in US(a notable example is comcast with 250gb, or around 60 hours of HD movies on netflix, I don’t know about you, but I think I watched more than that much Toonami in one month alone). Some people find torrenting morally wrong and don’t do it. Some don’t torrent due to fear of prosecutions. Some are limited to low speed connections and large downloads will take a long time. Some people may prefer watching shows in their native language, and that language probably isn’t Japanese if you liked Toonami as a kid. Fansubs are excellent and serve their purpose well, but that’s all they will ever do. They aren’t ever going to be a replacement for dubs. CCCP? Sure, but then you need a player that can render softsubs, because Windows Media Player can’t do it, and on multiaudio releases you can’t switch the track, from my knowledge. All of these options also require admin privileges, which some kids may not possess on their home PC.
They also required Hard Drive Space, which is at a premium nowadays due to the flooding that happened last year rendering two hard drive manufacturing plants inoperable. You also need a PC capable of processing and rendering HD video and subs, For that, you need at least a dual core PC, and many may not have one(they may use only a netbook or something).
There are too many issues that have to be addressed, mainly a lack of dubs, which are the preference of many(I like subs, but a good dub is fine with me).
I don’t know about you, but if I was stuck on a DSL connection, I would not want to download a few large video files to determine whether or not I want to watch a series.
sorry to lead you guys on. but it turns out the rumors of CN doing negotiations was confirmed false. just wanted to revive the thread for poops n’ snickers.
