I’ve done the 200 Man Melee on Unknown with Yuri and Estelle, working on it with the others.
Yuri owns the shit out of it, because A: He has Glory, B: He’s strong as fuck and C: Tension skills put him in perpetual lv. 4 Overlimit, which = invincibility against everything. You just pull Savage Wolf Fury in crowds and get a free lv. 3, then use 1 bar to go back into lv. 4, continue to rape everything then repeat the Savage Wolf Fury when low on OL.
Estelle’s a bit trickier because she’s not as strong, but if you equip the “Eternal Support” ability then go into lv. 1 OL at the beginning (when the enemies are chumps who can’t hurt you), you can spam Force Field until the skill kicks in and she’s immortal for the rest of the fight. Again, time is her biggest enemy, but you can spam Holy Rain to clear crowds and spam Dividing Edge on bosses.
Here’s the thing. If there was controller support for, say, classic/GC controllers, you could still play the game with your remote and chuk if you so choose. The only difference is that I’d be able to play how I want, as would anybody who doesn’t want to control what is essentially a 2D fighter with limited 3D elements with motion controllers that have no motion control function in combat.
You don’t have to care, but you can’t deny that removing control options negatively impacts a game’s potential audience, ESPECIALLY since the Wiimote’s motion control functionality is used ONLY on map screens.
The only thing I really feel I have left is the secret dungeon in unknown. I just want to see how ridiculous the HP totals of some of those final bosses are.
Apparently if you tell your other characters to just stand still and do nothing though, and have good levels and EQ, you can just rape them with Yuri alone. The problem is if the other characters are doing anything, they will more than likely hit the enemy you are attacking out of whatever combo you are going for.
Since my siblings no longer want to play Vesperia, I might just wind up doing that. The computer is retarded anyway.
I start up vesperia for the first time in like 2 weeks and go check to see if fenrir has respawned yet. The first time I check he’s finally there. The only problem is he doesn’t drop the great wolf horn (he didn’t drop it the first time I fought him either). So I reset, buy a hunter’s monocle, equip 2 of them and go back…he’s not there
Set everyone else to stay away from enemies, not use artes, and focus on defending. This will make them do nothing but avoid attacks and taunt.
Put Destruction Field on Yuri, then when the fight starts go into Overlimit right next to the enemy.
Spam Destruction Field until they die, as they will be on the ground and cannot escape the attack. The taunts from your group will recharge the OL gauge so you can literally do infinite Destruction Fields until they’re dead.
It’s even easier with a second player, as they can go with Karol and spam Havoc Break while Yuri is doing Destruction Field. At level 160 (the level I was at when I started Unknown EX Dungeon) you can literally knock off about 2 million HP in roughly 30 seconds.
[details=Spoiler]Just fought against her twice (the level 1 OL + Destruction Field trick helped greatly; thanks Alpha). Gotta say that whole storyline arc was really dull. The Yuri + Flynn interaction is way better than this OMG bad guy is using the chosen BS.
The characters in this game are good, but the story is horrible. And the villains are just not there. Good villains make stories so much better, and the one-two of crappy story and crappy villains is quite irritating.
I really, really like Karol. His awakening, so to speak, was quite well done. Very happy with it.
And Raven being Schwann = didn’t see it coming. I expected Raven to be a high level imperial operative but not Schwann. So Schwann joins you but Flynn doesn’t? Lame.[/details]
[details=Spoiler]yea i pretty much agree with pretty much your whole entire analysis. any chance of the story being standout was pretty much done when part 3 came about and the game decided to just make some shit up to wrap up all of the world’s problems.
this probably had the strongest cast of character’s i’ve seen a long while. i think it had alot to do with the fact that they were all pretty damn funny, and really didn’t take themselves so damn seriously like a lot of JRPG’s do. even serious ass murdering motherfuckin yuri, who is probably my new favorite protagonist ever had alot of moments that gave me some lulz.
and i hate the lack of a decent villain. alexei reminded me of sephiroth with how much he looked like him and how much he irritated me, and no i didn’t give a shit when he had his little epiphany when he realized he done fucked up at zaude. and duke? he was ok i suppose, but he wasnt villainous, he was just pissy that his entelexia friend got killed, and then he suddenly has a change of heart in the end and saves the world.
o well, doesnt change the fact im puttin like 100 some hours into this game, that has to say somethin about it.
I don’t think we really need spoiler tags anymore. Everyone that was going to play this game has already played it, and those that haven’t would probably be avoiding this thread.
I’m going to be replaying this game, but to be honest it feels kind of lacking afterwards. I hated Abyss’ story and characters, but the battle system was more fun and you felt like you were getting more things done. Grand Chokmah was just an amazing city and it was always great to drop by there. Dahngrest was the major city in this game, and aside from having a cool background theme it kinda sucked. I don’t think anybody could consider the waiter mini-game fun, and there really wasn’t much aside from that there.
The coliseum in this game is boring. Either you have a high enough level to blow through it in time or you don’t, there’s not much in the way of strategy, and since there is no team option it’s also rather pointless. Also you don’t even get weapons for it, which was a plus in Abyss.
I’m playing LO now, but when I’m done I’ll give Vesperia another shot and maybe try to collect more achievements (something I don’t really care too much about either). My brother and sister seem to really dislike this game, and playing this game by yourself is kind of boring. When someone gets a really good sidequest guide up I’ll take a look, but I get the feeling I hit pretty much everything other than the cooking sidequest, and some titles. I got pretty much every costume title for everyone except Yuri.
well there’s an event guide available from someone that was nice enough to write all the shit down. http://ameblo.jp/koulinovesperia/.
and yea the waiter game is fucking infuriating. the only redeeming factor to that is that it’s the second best way to farm gald and get the money achievement. and because of the simple fact that i like getting achievements is probably why i haven’t stopped playing yet.
despite all that i havent started EX game yet, instead i started over playing the game with a friend, something that makes the game infinitely more fun and interesting. strangely enough im pretty sure that he wouldnt like the game if he were to just play it by himself.
with the shit ton of games coming up in the next few weeks, and some more rpg’s like last remnant and maybe fable 2, i really dont see myself hitting up EX unless i start pretty much now. i guess time will have to tell on that one.
Agreed, though one must wonder why so many end up on portables…
I’m also not too terribly pleased with the fact that on my 360, only the lead player’s profile gets the achievements. Also, I wish I could play over X-Box Live.
that sucks that you can’t share achievements, or at least the secret missions. though it makes me glad i didnt bother transferring my profile to his xbox.
Welp I finally beat Duke’s 3rd form on my first playthrough save. It was pretty tough, as I kept getting demolished all the time so I leveled my characters up to about 70, synthed 15 hourglasses (since I missed Anji Lost) and just used hourglass/rita overlimit/negative gate. Negative gate actually stuns him and I think with combinations of hourglass and negative gate and CPU yuri attacking regularly performing all his artes and shit, I got like a 300 hit combo in the beginning until he went into overlimit mode, I probably could have gone higher. But then I just repeated after the big bang garbage and I ended up winning. I know most of you have already beaten him probably like 5 times but I just thought I’d post it in case anyone else is having trouble.
co-op makes this game stupidly easy.
i wiped out all of the reachable giganto monsters already without even getting to part 3.
that means i killed brutal and brucis at like level 47.
i mean i knew that rita was broken when i started grade farming with her, but when you use her full on throughout the game, you find out why she’s like storm and cable fused together.
it looks like hard mode really is a necessity to get the full effect of this battle system.
Yeah, I actually don’t like the games enough to play single player most of the time. Vesperia is nice but I dunno when I’d replay it as it’d be solo. I did most of the extra end game stuff on my own, and it was okay just for completion’s sake, but I had much more fun playing it multi-player. Seiken Densetsu 3 is like that too, the game is somewhat poor solo but with another person it winds up being a lot of fun.
Picked up Vesperia earlier this week, never played a Tales game before but I’m enjoying it quite a bit. Boss Battle #4 was fucking hard and annoying, goddamn. I saw some of the bonus costumes you can unlock, how early in the game can I get my first costume?
