you’ll need much higher than that 1600x1200 is still not enough, i’d say you’d want at least 3000 or 4000 per dimension for best results i think.

If you want a single image (i.e. a wallpaper) to cover the entire template then you’ll need a resolution of approx. 3300 x 2300 for the SE and 4000 x 2500 for the TE.
If you are going to compose a template with multiple images then obviously the larger the better. But you can still use some smaller images provided you are not going to enlarge them. When it comes to resolution; making bigger is bad and making smaller is good. Though, some folks like to turn small bitmaps into vector and scale them larger. In this case your starting quality will determine how well this works.(i.e. a highly compressed jpg with ‘artifacting’ will tend to vector the same way - though this can be cleaned up if you have the time and know-how)

a lot of template ideas i have right now come from 800/1280/1600 etc wallpapers. so i guess this means i would need to use illustrator or vector and try to re-scale/enlarge it?
