I think the original Benchmark ignored the Fixed option.
For benchmarking, it really should be set to Variable. So the display runs as fast as possible, even if it’s faster then it should in the game.
But always always always set it to Fixed before actually playing the game. This insures the gameplay runs at 60 cycles per second even if the display can’t keep up.
Before when i was using the benchmark tool my score went higher as i increased anti-aliasing, now it increased 3000 when i turned it off…oh well, atleast i’m not worried the skins were slowing me down, great news
There are people you can have good to great matches, that know what they are doing. Though, don’t expect Valle to come by. Ps: Though, just saw a level of play in G1 and SG on console in other thread. Don’t hesitate - buy a PC version.
PC is hit or miss, just like 360 or PS3 versions. But in general PC is a lot less populated, so unfortunately its not always easy to find a decent match.
Funnily enough it is having an effect, but only during Ultra’s. Ive found I can get away with having it on ‘High’ now instead of Mid, but on ‘Highest’ certain characters Ultra’s have Slowdown. Sakura’s drops by about 5fps during the high jump, Seth’s drops by 10fps but only if its an ultra finish. But Ryu’s is the worst, drops by 15fps soon as it show’s the closeup of his face.
This only seems to effect Ryu’s Ultra, just like above it drops by 15fps when this is set to high, at Mid and with soft shadowing at High instead of Highest, its fine.
Ken’s Ultra seems to be the worst culprit, especially on the drive in/dinner stage (this has been confirmed to happen on the 360 version to). If you land the ultra its fine, if you get an Ultra Knockout its usually fine, but if you get an Ultra Knockout on that stage and the character has no health left when the first hit of the Shinryuken Connects … it drops by a massive 30fps :wow:.
I get no slowdown outside of Ultra’s so it doesn’t effect the main game, but Im definitely baffled why the frame rate would drop so low during those situation’s
Still looks way better then the console versions though
Anyone know if your account will be banned for using the trainer to unlock the characters and whatnot? Just want to make sure it’s safe before I go online…
I recently got this for PC as well and have been testing out the graphical settings for it. When I play the actual game (Online and off) I noticed that my FPS counter maxes out at around 60 FPS. Is this the highest the game can go, or can I go beyond 60 in-game?
I don’t know if it’s just me trying to adjust to playing the game on my computer as opposed to my PS3, but somehow SFIV on the PC FEELS slightly slower, though I could be wrong. I’m trying to see if this is because I have my settings too high, or if I’m just seeing things.
First, change the “framerate” setting from “variable” to “fixed” – that’ll prevent the game from lagging when your framerate lags.
Well, I guess that’s all there is to it, really. There’s no point getting more than 60 fps because the game runs at 60 fps so you’d just be drawing the same frame twice.
Cool. I’ll give that a try. I’m guessing that since I can run the game at 60 FPS then it’s at optimal speed. I suppose the slow-down that I keep seeing is all in my head then.
Edit
I also have a small graphics question. This is me being nit-picky, but at the moment I’m running the game at 1920 x 1200 with no AA and Vsync turned off. Everything else is set to highest. I can run the game perfectly smooth at 60 FPS as I’ve mentioned before, but what I tend to notice (Especially during cinematic Ultra finishers) is that sometimes the screen will tear like there’s no tomorrow. I’ve read around and it seems like the problem can be fixed simply by turning on Vsync. It fixes the problem alright, but also at a serious cost to my FPS during graphically intensive levels or Ultra moves, even at lower resolutions.
I was wondering, is there any way to get rid of this screen tearing problem without using Vsync? (Which seems to be really resource intensive) Maybe a setting that I can set in my graphics card’s control panel? (I’m using an XFX GeForce 9800 GTX+)
Thanks in advance again. I’m just trying to see how good I can tweak this thing. If Vsync is the only solution, then I’ll just leave it off and put up with it since the game looks great at 1920 x 1200 and I don’t want to sacrifice the quality because of something as minor as screen tearing. I’ll just sit further back from the monitor or something.
Triple buffering would add a minimum of two frames of lag (there are three frames drawn, the most recent frame, in buffer 2, the last frame, in buffer 1 and the frame before last, in buffer 0). What you want is 1-frame vsync since you’ll have 0-1 frame of lag. (1 if it takes until the end of the most recent frame to buffer it.) (Or something like that.)
I would suggest testing your monitor (if you can get a full-screen stopwatch) by doing a lag test versus a CRT with and without various buffering/vsync options. Especially if your TV/monitor is already adding a part of a frame of lag you might not notice vsync at all.
If you are playing online and your opponent’s PC is not at 60FPS and he has not set his ‘framerate’ to ‘fixed’, then you will experience slowdown whether or not you have configured your options properly.
Capcom messed up by even including that option, it should have been hardcoded to fixed framerate and not editable by players.
^ True. I 'll need to take that into account as well. My best guess is that I should follow the same rule as the PS3 when I play online using the PC, that is, only go for matches that are at least 4-bar. I’ve had pretty good connections on both platforms, but some matches on PC literally slow down to a crawl.
I set my graphics card to make use of Triple Buffering. I’ll try it later tonight and see if that fixes the screen tearing, or if the problem still persists.
Why do you need more than 60fps? Unless you’re like a lizard or something there’s no way you will notice any difference. Vsync caps the framerate to be the same as your monitors refresh rate so effectively it’s capping it to that even if the game says it’s 100 or something. Just lower your settings a bit and set the framerate to fixed and you will run it perfectly at 60fps with vsync.
Oh and yeah, if you’re running 60fps and the game lags when playing online it’s your opponents fault 100%.
Human eye’s can see up to 120 fps and possibly more, not a real big deal though a steady 60 is just fine for most games.
Kinda have a gripe, every since sagat was announced to be somewhat OP i’ve seen tons of them. It’s quite annoying due to the fact even flowchart sagats can be a hassle to deal with…
I wasn’t trying to see whether I could run it at an FPS higher than 60, I was just curious if 60 was the max because of the aforementioned slow-downs that I seem to experience every now and then. I’ve confirmed that when I play online, it is definitely due to player lag. On single player, the game runs just as fast as the PS3 version.
As for the screen tearing issue, I’ve activated Triple Buffering on my card. It seems to have fixed some of the major tears, but screen tearing can still be seen during Ultra cinematics so it’s not completely gone. I’ve opted to just stick with it for now. Screen tearing is just me nit-picking at something that is already running fairly good at the moment, and I find that once I start playing the game, I barely notice it because I’m focusing on the fight.
So no big deal. Thanks a lot however, to everyone for your help! Activating Triple Buffering may not have eliminated the screen tearing on SFIV completely, but I’m sure that if this issue arises in other games, it’ll come in handy just as well! =)
Flowchart Sagats I play against use lots of TKs but almost never use TU. If you have a jump-in that stuffs TK, they tend to be at a loss. I usually beat them with a combination of zero-skill random normal jump-in combos and appropriate use of AAs when they try to jump in or do random TKs; if, unlike me, you actually know what you’re doing, it should be cake.
People often say that tier lists aren’t very relevant at beginner and intermediate levels of play. I’d go so far as to say they’re absolutely irrelevant online, where lag makes mobility and movement speed much larger factors. I’d much rather fight a Sagat online than, say, a Blanka, a Seth or even a Claw.
