My copy of SF4 PC will play perfectly, but then it’ll randomly start taking up 100% of my CPU which kills the framerate down to like 4fps. My PC is more than great, does anyone know why it’d do this? It doesn’t happen offline, only online. Also let me restate, its RANDOM. I really can’t put a finger on what it might be

My D/C rate is already like 8% because I have to close out matches when it happens :sad:

Sounds like something else is communicating over the network, maybe some software doing a ‘phone home.’ Also, do you have any chat programs like Trillian or AIM on?

What is the point of variable if it can slow down the game so badly like that?

The point is that if you set it to fixed and your GPU can’t run the game at 60 FPS or more, the will be input delay because this game only seems to “accept” the input when it draws a frame.
My GPU runs this at 45~53 FPS on variable and some links become almost impossible even with auto-fire on fixed.

is there anyway to save w/o having to be on live?

Create a off-line profile.

You can just create an offline account.

I disagree with that completely! I run the game at settings that give me an average of 40fps, but set to ‘fixed’ and I find that it’s very smooth and there are no dropped inputs. Of course online lag can screw things up, but that’s different.

Auto-fire isn’t going to do you any favours! it’s the same as mashing which isn’t going to get links out. That’s the same on all versions.

Strange… anyone else getting weird bar displays?

When I join a match w/ one bar, inside the game will appear to be 3 bars.

If I join a 3 bar match, it will show once i join as a 4 or 5 bar match.

Has anyone mentioned the “Fixed” vs. “Variable” setting yet in this thread? Someone on the Steam forums found that if everyone sets their framerate to “Fixed,” you’ll avoid the slow-motion match problem. Problem is, I believe the game’s default setting is variable, which sucks.

I’m sure there are people out there who don’t read any forums and won’t see it. Message people after the match through GWFL with what to do and they’ll probably thank you for it, I’m sure they don’t like the slo-mo either. I’ve gotten a few thanks already.

Really was a bonehead move by Capcom to not default to fixed (or have the choice at all). What is the point of variable if it can slow down the game so badly like that? Can it also speed up the game to hyper/turbo mode if both players are getting 75 FPS?

I though fixed = vsync … well more like 60 fps max

Blanka’s jumping roundhouse, standing strong, crouching forward, standing jab XX ball and Claw’s standing short x4, crouching strong wont work on fixed if there’s any frame skipping, even if you set autofire to press the button every 1 frame. Off-line of course.
I had to set it to variable to do these combos in the trial mode. I was even able to do then without using autofire.
And no, autofire does help you do special moves and some of the more difficult links, and before anybody asks, I never use it for anything other than testing.

Do you guys all play on keyboards and does it work well, I mean can you compete with the best, or you use a gamepad?

so ive got a question… it might have been covered, if so, im sorry.

i bought the game off of steam, and im going through unlocking things, which is a very time consuming, and boring, process… when i build a new computer, and get a fresh install of w/e operating system is out at the time, will i need to transfer some files so it’ll keep my unlocks? i would hate to have to unlock everything whenever i had to reinstall the game.

As far as I can tell BP and GP are stored online, so you don’t need to back up a save. You can just re-unlock things with this the next time you format.

Edit Status takes care of this (the same menu where you change your icon, etc…I think it’s the RB button or something?).

Ok maybe someone can help me out, where the hell is the home button?

Im running it on a bootcamp MacPro/Macbook Pro and hit every damn key on my keyboard to find the home button and nadda works. Its a mac keyboard, so do i need to use a PC one?

Also my stick doesnt have a home button on it, unless i didnt set the buttons correctly. Its a MC Chultha. Do i need to set a specific button to it?
