The "Official" Street Fighter 4 PC Thread (read first post)

Yep, it’s me again…

This time, the game runs fine for awhile, but then, my framerate goes into the shitter, big time. We’re talking in the seconds-per-frame range.

My specs:

Windows XP SP3 (32-bit)
AMD Athlon 64 x2 4800+ (dual-core processor)
ATI Radeon HD 4850 (Catalyst Control Center 9.5 loaded)
(was using an SB Live 5.1 soundcard, but now using onboard sound due to no Windows 7 drivers)
2GB RAM

Clean install (this afternoon), and nothing I do seems to fix this. AA’s off, everything’s at Mid, except models and backgrounds.

Symptoms: CPU usage goes through the roof (maxing at 100%), framerate drops to the bottom of the Marianas Trench.

can anyone confirm if replacing the save.dat file located in My Documents actually changes the save data of the game?

Hmm rly, i assumed it was a dual processor function, ill recheck that.

try running a benchmark with it enabled and then one with it disabled and lemme know your results.

Everyone that has the random slowdown after a couple minutes seems to be ATI videocard users correct?

Ok it seemed to drop a handful of frames with it on like 4 or 5 frames on the stages with more intense backgrounds, like chinatown and drive by at night. I also run versus agaisnt the cpu in drive by to check because that’s the toughest one for my system to run, so im gonna leave it off and just to clarify im running a single cpu + gpu so this wont apply to dual systems (i think the setting is for dual gpus specifically).

That’s a legitimate complaint. It looks like you’ll have to make a batch script or something to replace the game’s music files with dummy data and back if you want muted music.

It’s similar to what I was working on before, but should take MUCH less time to implement.

Also, in regards to cross platform, any thoughts on this?

incorrect.

stop speculating on this without solid evidence. Capcom needs to clarify this crap about video settings (some options might be bugged for online play).

Well here’s what’s got me stumped:

I updated my video card drivers (8800GT) because SLi made the game run horribly. This update caused SLi to work properly. Now, before, I had parallel rendering on running on a single GPU and with SLi, and it made no difference in framerate when I switched to SLi with the setting left on. Turning it off is what seems to cause problems.

The problem with updating my drivers, however, was that now I couldn’t get FRAPS to stay at a stable framerate during gameplay when I tried to record. Why would this be? So I reverted back to the old drivers, and opted to run the game with a single GPU as it can handle everything maxed out with 2xAA/8xAF anyway. I’m back to recording FRAPS videos and the game runs smoothly.

However, I noticed I was getting some slowdown every few seconds after updating and reverting and I discovered that every time I updated or reverted my drivers, the nVidia control panel would default the Phsyx support to Enabled. As soon as I disabled this, end of all framerate problems. To anyone with Physx supported video cards, make sure Physx is disabled when playing SF4.

No issues here with physx enabled while playing SF4.
Maybe your physx installation got screwed up or sth like this because of that driver up- an downgrading.

Idk, Physx has only ever worked properly for me in SLi, and only with games that support it. Just leaving it enabled causes framerate problems in most games. No idea why. These things do get a little heated under heavy load, but SF4 doesn’t seem to phase 1 for hours on end with the fan set to 100%.

when do steam and impulse start allowing you to download the game? i heard steam lets you preload it before it is actually released…

i bought it on impulse however. this anticipation is killing me!

question: are you guys able to do an easy fadc with the keyboard?
doesnt work for me, he just doesnt dash and there is no cancel at all.

also there is no way to cancel some other moves like the fake-kick of sagat (hk,hk)… are there some keyboard inputproblems or is it just me?

What do you have each key mapped to? Maybe your keyboard can’t register certain key combinations? I know mine is stubborn like that sometimes.

yea, i thought about that issue. movement is “wasd” and actions are “p’s: i,o,p - k’s: j,k,l” … but the point is, at the fake-kick i just have to press hk very fast so there’s no combination at all and it doesnt work, no matter how fast i press… im a skilled keyboard player, so thats not the problem…
since every pc player has a keyboard, i just wanna ask, if anyone mentioned the same…or maybe its my keyboard … also overclocking the usb-port and tweaking the win-keyboard-options made no difference

Thank you.

I’ve managed to extract the *.csb files, but I don’t know how to repack them. Is there another program for this?

Have any of you been able to get it to recognise a stick if you plug it in after you’ve already started the game? I have a HRAP3 and it detects it perfectly if it’s already plugged in when I launch the game, but otherwise it just refuses to see it. I have tried “assign 1P device” in the options menu - no joy.

I’ve gotta say, the voice communication is absolutely terrible. It’s like some broken walkie talkie where you literally can’t tell what the other person is saying.

that’s why pc’s have ventrilo option

so where are people finding the pc version? I went to at least 3 bestbuys/walmarts over the weekend and nobody is stocking it yet. are you guys dl’ing off steam or some shit?

kinda want the retail version though so I can padhack the fightpad that comes with it and have another 360/pc stick

any advice on where to pick the game/pad combo pack would be much appreciated.

It isn’t released on Steam until the 7th. I have it pre-downloaded already. It’s taunting me.
