The Official SRK Unemployment (aka "Extended Vacation") Thread. Too much free time!

For those that are physically [and have a strong mental consitution] can go apply for Corrections. The process is rather long but the pay is rather good, you work with the government so you get a good pension and hazard pay [good or bad way depending on how you look at it]. This is just a recommendation for you fellas that probaly worked security somewhere else, you can pick this up at your local government agency or government job site. Florida has a crapload of positions like this.

I wish I could go into it but I don’t think I got the mental fortitude to deal with inmates. But then again my buddy who is doing the training has seen people of all walks of life [20s young men to 57-year old women]. Of course working with the government you have to be clean, no criminal record and you have to take a polygraph test/background test.

But yeah being unemployed blows. Im trying this Border Patrol gig and Im in the waiting list to get a background check to see if I can even continue forward. Associate degree doesn’t land you SHIT. I really want to go back to school but I don’t want to be in debt again. Granted I had to fall back on my folks again and bummin’ it up there… really need to find a career. Was an accounting clerk before and can’t seem to find anything here.

yeah the pay sucks balls. Hell my dad, who’s been a truck driver for them for 30 years, told me that the salary loaders/unloaders get has been around since when he started out back in the late 70’s. Hasn’t changed since. In all honesty it really needs to be around 11.50 to 12/hour.
Oh well i quit that place months ago. I work as Quality Assurance for a gas mask place anyways.

I got 8.50 when I worked there in '98/'99.

yeah thats the same pay its been for a LONG time.

Yea UPS does suck. I’ve been there 4+ years and make about 13.22 an hour but I’m burned out and need something better. And it doesn’t help the Denver (Commerce City) Hub is the worst one in the nation.

some of you talking about putting/no putting wack ass jobs on your resume…the COO of a company i worked for still leaves McDs on his resume, shit is halarious…

his resume is 2 pages long though and i think it is there to show were he started from and where he is now AND that he understand lower level jobs and the mentality/process/work environment in those types of jobs…sort of he can relate and make decisions in higher positions with regards to the lower levels from the experience he had there…

im outi

Roberth

You’re supposed to keep resume one page long. Plus you should put jobs that relate to the job you’re going for…

From what I have talked to and from my own personal experience, you can have a resume be two pages long if you are an experience professional. Other than that, it is best to keep it to one.

Bumping this thread…

…because I KNOW some of you niggas are gonna end up down here sooner or later by how things are going down lately…

Down here, EVERYTHING FLOATS! :looney:

I’m in finance and I still keep my restaurant job on my resume. Why? because I worked that job for almost 4 years. Showing loyalty to a single company is important, imo.

In all honesty I didn’t read all the posts until now, so this might already have come up, but the current situation in Japan is that the population is getting older (less than avg. 2 children/household) so there is lots of talk of importing work power from other countries. Now, I don’t imagine these jobs are in the more part that attractive, but hey, it’s a job, in Japan.
And even if they’re just baito atm, if this trend continues, there will be more serious openings as well.
I have several friends living this way here atm so, erh…

Just my cent :3

I got a new job two weeks ago. It is for the city and pays a good amount more than my previous IT job.

Keep your resumes fresh and always be ready for when the Man calls you up.

what do you do for the city? i’m considering getting a town job but i dont wanna be someone’s little bitch. a regular bitch i can handle.

IT Specialist for a community college. Not a bad gig. Great pay and benefits. Three month probationary period though.

You too? I work for Delta now… Pay is decent and increases every 6 months. And the benefits are awesome as fuck! I advise everyone to go to http://www.deltajobs.net/career_destinations.htm Im a cargo agent, and its easy as shit so far…

I’m unemployed and there is a job fair tomorrow, advice?

I see the resume advice above, but I need help writing up my resume,I know I should lie of course! But else should be on it? The style and fonts and other crap?

thanks and wish me luck! :china:

Finally landed a sweet job!

I agree. I don’t have a degree, but I’ve still got my first job. I’ve had some others here and there, but I’ve stayed put by and large for 8 years.

Edit: Not that a degree wouldn’t be even more helpful, should I find myself unemployed.

What was so bad about it? I went through the whole visiting the warehouse / group interview process but never got the job. The HR manager kept stressing how hard the job was, I’m guessing that plus the low pay made it horrible?

I think the longest i have being an unemployed is 6 months because i got something unfortunate things had happen to me…
