Springfield Armory 1911 too…I <3 mine.

What’s wrong with Beretta - - share please.

A few good deals thanks but the only eyepopping one was for the Wolf ammo. Aside from that, the price difference from 9mm to .45 is still considerable for range purposes.

PS Kimber 1911 here.

if he’s using the gun for the range why does he need stopping power? also say it was for home defense, what brand of criminal do you have in your area that is willing to eat a bullet (9mm or otherwise) and continue to try and stand and fight, instead of just running immediately at the sight and/or sound of a gun?

I’ve been looking into getting a handgun for home defense and range shooting for a few months now. I was given a Browning 380 by my dad, but that round is shit for home defense. I know for sure my next handgun will be a 1911 and I’m pretty sure it will be a Wilson Combat of some form or another. Although I must say, I haven’t thought about getting a shotty, but the arguments made about the intimidation factor of just hearing it pump is certainly true. Also, you really can’t miss with that bad boy. I’ll need to do some research on shotguns now.

Unfortunately, I live in CA so my options for guns/rifles are very limited, but if I could get any of my choosing for fun it would certainly be this SABR which shoots the 7.62mm rounds, id get both versions of the upper receivers too.

I haven’t shot either but I’ve read alot about both and in terms of capability both are efficient in their own way. M4 for long distance accuracy. Ak for unmatched power and his long distance use but not as reliable as the M4. If the M4 was shit our military wouldn’t use it plain and simple.

It seems like there would be more money in replacing fallen soldiers than in providing higher quality weaponry. I presume though.

AK not as reliable as an M4? What? There’s a reason that AK’s are so widespread. It’s simple, shoots pretty big bullets, and you never have to clean it. I’ve seen some grimy looking AKs and they still keep firing. As far as the M4 being shit… I don’t think it is. Just requires a bit more TLC than other weapons. When you have to put faith in your M4 that it will fire, it’s nice to help it out as much as possible and keep it clean.

I’ve been thinking about getting a 226 in .357SIG when I get done over here.

Maybe the drill team, that’s it.

And AK’s are as reliable a rifle as you’ll find.

ok…that doesn’t really answer the question. my point is that if someone breaks into your house and you shoot at them with your handgun they’re probably gonna run, not go “pfft this nigga only has a nina, i can eat like 4-5 of those easy” and then try and rush you down. and if you really expect them to come at you with smg then there’s 2 scenarios:
you get the jump on the somehow, and shoot them (doesn’t matter what kinda gun you have)
you get the jump on them somehow, fire and they runaway (most likely, doesn’t matter what gun you have)
they get the jump on you and rob you (doesn’t matter how powerful your gun is)
they get the jump on you, you go for you gun and get shot (doesn’t matter how powerful your gun is)

like seriously how many new stories are there of someone breaking in, getting shot and STILL going through with the robbery?

No. You can leave an AK in a river for a month, shake the dirt out, and the thing will probably still fire. The M4 has many of the same problems that plague the m16, since the design is very much the same. The gas system has a lot of issues and will perform poorly or just stop working if it isn’t properly maintained. I may not have any issues with it because I can clean my gun after every trip to the range, but I am not out in a desert fighting a war.

The issue isn’t that they will shrug off bullets or anything, it’s that the round may not put them down fast enough. The difference we are talking about is if they get dropped immediately, or if they drop a second later, possibly after firing a few rounds. Hell even a guy lying on the ground bleeding to death could still manage a shot.

Also there are documented cases in recent/current wars of the 5.56 round not having enough stopping power. Where after being shot the person would have collapsed, but then would get up and continue fighting after a half minute, before they are either shot again or suffer enough blood loss that they collapse. I don’t know of any home defense situations where a round hasn’t stopped someone, but I also haven’t looked for them.

saving up for a compact xd-45, lmt m4 (upper and lower), trijicon acog scope, and maybe a nice wilson combat 1911

>:3

I didn’t know that, talk about durability.

A cop I knew said the same thing about Beretta’s. Just called em junk and was all gung ho about the Glock. Biased maybe.

here’s my xd SC .40, some various hollows and +p ammo…Peltor Tac 6s (great elec. headset)

trijicons

aren’t hollow tips illegal in like every state?

? No
You’re greatly mis-informed.

Definitely gotta Recommend Colt. I have a friend who owns one and he took the basic spring for the safety on the back out and replaced it with a one pound spring and he says its the best damn handgun he’s ever owned, and wishes he’d have bought it years ago.

But the other day I was looking into getting a SigSauer P229 but I wasn’t sure if I should get the basic model or the DAK Model. What do you guys think?

Apparently the DHS uses the p229 Dak and so I assume it MUST be a great pistol if they use it.

what do CA residents have to do to purchase a gun?

I think the state website should have info about this, but I was thinking of moving there so here is what I recall from memory.

There is a waiting period (1 week I think). You need to pass a background check and have a clean criminal record. You need to have completed a safety course or have a CCW already. You need a drivers license and proof of residency. I think they also require that you purchase a lock with the gun in CA, or to prove that you already have a lock/safe for it. There might be other stuff, but I think this is it.

Any gun shop owner will have this info for you, and and a good gun shop/range will allow you to rent guns. I would always say that you should try a gun before you buy it. Even if you have heard great things about the brand/model it might not feel right in your hand and another gun you hadn’t thought about might feel just right.

My service weapon:

Colt M4:

It’s not that great of a weapon. There are much better weapons in it’s class but it does it’s job.

For my personal weapon, I own Mossberg 835 Uti-Mag. I replaced the 24" Barrel with an 18" Barrel and replaced the synthetic stock with a recoil-absorbing collapsible stock.
