Unleashed did that sorta of, with the L1 and R1 taps to flip rails.
^ yeah they did but doing it with the control stick for me feels way more natural
did you pick the game up Remy?
I’m getting my ass handed to me by Arthur right now lol
Sigh. Drops to his knees WHHHHHHHHHY?!
Since I’m biased and love the Sonic series I’m probably gonna end up picking this up anyeway. At least when the price drops. I bought Unleashed (Wii) after reading what reviews had to say, I didn’t think the game was terrible as a whole, even though the werehog stages were tedious as hell. I’m pretty sure I’ll find something I’ll like in this game.
This is coming from someone who thought Sonic Adventure 2 was perfect.
EDIT: Unsurprisingly, Nintendo Power gave Black Knight an 8/10. Man I love their honest, objective game reviews.
yeah yeah yeah…I tell you what though the music in this game is still good lol. I have the full version of ‘Knight on the Wind’ playing right now on the Wii…I’m gonna have to dl the soundtrack when it comes out.
I’m not going to reserve or push any sonic titles (3d or ‘other’, gotta fall under 2d or bioware) until Sega’s proven to me they can get their head out of their ass. It’s such a shame about this game…cause it’s like Unleashed all over again. They nearly had it but something that shouldn’t have been there or was so stupidly over looked completely tanks the damn thing. Believe it or not while I was playing this game, Sonic with a sword is actually NOT A BAD IDEA. No where near as badly thought of Shadow with a gun and I could see what they were trying to get at while playing this game but they fucked it up. Next main Sonic title better not have any gimmicks…>(
I also beat the game but haven’t completed it yet…and don’t know if I’m going too. Arthur only takes 2 reps of attacks and he’s done…but the second rep is a bitch because of lag between your swings and the on screen prompt…Remy will know what I’m talking about when he gets there lol.
Werehog wasn’t that bad so you’re not the only one…but please just wait it out if you’re planning on buying this game. I really hoping Sega takes a SRK to the pocket so they can get the point. Seems the only way you can get completely through to companies is if you fuck with their money. They’ll make it back on MadWorld and Conduit anyway.
Edit:
oh yeah and if I was to give this game a score…it wouldn’t be a 3.9. I’d say this game is definitely a bit lower than Unleashed so I’d probably say around 5.5 ish.
5.5 sounds more reasonable, even I know there’s no way in hell Gamespot will agree with that. Yeah…you’re right. No point in encouraging Sega by buying their crap. Especially at full price. I could always get it used from Ebay or something.
Glad to hear the music doesn’t suck.
Indeed it does not…god dammit I’m gonna be fuckin singing ‘Knight on the Wind’ to and from class tomorrow and at work…X.X
seriously the full version of this song has close to about as much energy as Live and Learn IMO
Edit:
also I don’t fault Matt for putting 3.9 either because honestly like i said before it’s stuff that could have easily have been fixed. And he even tried to tell them to fix it before but it went unheard.
and I just finished listening to the section in IGN’s podcast where they talked about the game again and of course Matt got hate mail for his review. I’m so glad I’m not a completely rabid fan of the franchise that I’m so blinded by my favoritism to a character that I completely ignore all of the games flaws.
If you’re intereseted in hearing the pod cast then it’s here
http://s.wiimovies.ign.com/wii/audio/article/959/959384/Nintendo%20Voice%20Chat%20Episode%2039.mp3
they talk about it at 1:15 till about 9:00
…Doesn’t Sonic Team ever learn that they can ever execute their bright ideas well? First the “Werehog” (man that sounds so retarded) in Unleashed, now the whole sword gimmick in the Black Knight.
You’ve got the formula already from the past games. Don’t clutter it with crap that nobody even cares or wants, and if you do, do it PROPERLY.
It’s like they take joy in digging the franchise further into the grave, which is rather sad.
OHHHH…ok…I see the twist NP was talking about…that actually wasn’t bad Sega!
If the music for Sonic BK is good, then it looks like I’ll be DLing the soundtrack when it hits the net. I’m glad the music has been mostly topnotch in Sonic games over the last few years. Only soundtrack I could really pass on was Secret Rings.
most of the stage songs don’t have lyrics on them at all…and if they do it’s Crush 40 as far as I know.
Edit:
on the real though graphically Sega did a really good job on this game…especially for a Wii title…such potential wasted…
Yeah, they had it at work today so I picked up a copy. I have yet to play it though. I’ve only got 2 trophies left to earn in Eat Lead and I’d like to finish that up first.
sonichuman- Mind elaborating more on the cons of the gameplay?
If you want I’ll do a general pros and cons…but i can’t go completely into that right now at the moment cause I’m in a class on a break where I’m drawing a really fat guy…sssssaaaaavveee meeeeeeeee…
Alvin Earthworm posted up the whole ‘Knight of the Wind’ track up on youtube

It’s not in the best quality cause it sounds at least 2-3 times better from the game coming through my speakers but you can at least get a feel for it and why I said it has about as much energy as Live And Learn.
Running around at the speed of sound, got places to go, GOTTA FOLLOW MY RAINBOW
EDIT
Lol wrong song.
wrong singer too…
I still haven’t completely beaten this game yet…they fake ended my ass and hit me with the twist that NP was talking about but I’ll do a whole pro and con thing…
Pros:
Music is still good…“I’m a knniiiiiiight of the wiiiiiind”…even if you’re not really a fan of Crush 40 they only show their vocals up in the main theme and in boss battles from what I’ve played so far. The other tracks are pretty solid as well like I mentioned before after playing the game a bit.
Soul Surge isn’t a bad idea and technically is just a slow mo version of homing attack with longer distance and attack range. Shadow actually uses his chaos control during his Soul Surge so he’s warping all over the place attacking people in his path.
Graphically this game is impressive…no i’m being serious. It’s obvious running through the open areas and the caves and stuff that the environments got some TLC. Little things like grass getting cut when sonic and co. swing their sword amidst their battles are nice touches. The lava level I went through was really well made and crafted. I’m pretty sure Remy will probably vouch for that whenever it is that he gets to that level.
Story isn’t completely retarded…lol. I count that as a pro and it even has a nice little twist in it. Sonic randomly shows up in story the mid ages of the book and assumes hero to rid the place of big bad Arthur. Hearing Knux and Shadow change their voices a bit to sound more medieval is kinda funny at times and Sonic and Caliburn (the name of the sword) don’t get along at all at first leading to some entertaining banter between them. Of course it still has some cheese factor in there at moments.
The game can actually be fairly fast like you’d expect a sonic game to be…the loops and corkscrew stuff that is usually in sonic games is absent but in all honesty I haven’t really noticed it that much since I was too busy concentrating on running to the next point, defeating the enemies and finishing the stage.
There’s this attack that I know at least sonic and Shadow do that he did in the trailers where he does his usuall buzzsaw spin but with the sword out. That shit rips through tons of enemies like a knife through butter. I really like coming across a group of enemies and homing in on the first one then off the bounce doing the slash and ripping through everyone.
There’s a good deal of unlockable stuff in this game and you can forge new weapons for Blaze, Shadow, and Knux to use that come with different abilities a la Secret Rings. I’m not sure if Shadow and the others can level up their stuff or themselves quite yet though. You can also unlock the music and fan art that people submitted…there’s a lot of fan service.
Overall in terms of Pros and from what I’ve played…I can’t honestly say that Sega isn’t trying. I won’t be able to get into Cons just yet cause I got a class in a few so I’ll get to that when I can.
IGN put the video review up so you get to see more of the game in action while Matt talks about the pros and cons of the game which are pretty similiar to the ones that I have with slight differences.
http://wii.ign.com/dor/objects/14268379/sonic-the-black-knight-/videos/sonicblackknight_vdr_030509.html
and I was in the process of typing up the cons and I hit backspace and randomly made my internet browser go back…so when I hit forward again everything was gone…FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF…
I’ll type it up again later…
So I finally finished Eat Lead on Hard yesterday, and am going to crack open Black Knight today.
