The Official Sonic the Hedgehog thread

That twisty road can die and worship whatever false god it wants to.

Eggmanland was definitely not a nice boy…I had 8 lives going into that stage and at least lost 5 of em in the process of trying to get used to it. There’s that one part in the stage where it’s possible to drift the curve but it’s HARD AS FUCK. Everytime I came too it I would just miss the speed pads and go right off the stage. It’s nearly impossible to take that curve full speed.

280 ring was a bit difficult as well…don’t think I’ve done the time trial yet.

Shadow Ace:
I just started up the 360 file so I can’t really offer any advice for you. Pile driving people with the werehog is good fun =D. Werehog is also easier to control on the 360, and the enemies I feel are a lot harder. I still can’t get used to the way how drifting works in this game in comparison to the Wii/ps2 version. I also know you probably don’t wanna hear this but probably to collect stuff with daytime sonic stages you’re going to have to take it slower than usual…and hear that really out of tune Indiana Jones orchestra at the end.:rofl::rofl: When I first heard the ‘You Fail’ music for this game I laughed for a good few seconds. It’s at least equivelant to the failure music from The Price is Right.

Indy:

What ya think about the last boss stage/fights/ending?

The punch out moment was like a game of rock’em sock’em robots, fun but the novelty wears out. The next part is awesome, especially when you’ve got the correct paths down. I love the epic music that plays in this part…alot. And then theres the super sonic part.

WARNING SEMI-SPOILER ALRET

Okay so starting with the music. Endless Possibility + Orchestral arrangement = one happy Indy. The way the battle played out reminded me of the Doomsday. Its a pretty fair fight too except for one of his attacks. The giant screen filler attack is a bitch to avoid. I’ve gotten pretty good at evading it but the spot in the middle that you need to be in is extremely precise. In all the boss fight was extremely satisfying and I’ve gone back several times to replay it.

Now the ending…it needs one giant NO HOMO. Seriously Chip was trying to get a little too sentimental with Sonic. But the Story was pretty crap to begin with so the ending wasn’t much better, it served its purpose and provided some nice closure.

Also does this Eggman remind anyone else of Sonic X’s Eggman?

How did you get extra lives? I collected the usual 100 rings several times but never got any extra lives.

In the Wii/ps2 versions in order to get more lives for the stages you’d actually enter the gaia temples and enter the side doors. The ones that you went too and Chip would show up and be like ‘YOU CAN’T OPEN THIS DOOR BITCH!..you ain’t got enough sun medals and moon medals!’ In those rooms theres some small platformish/puzzle rooms that you can go into to get more extra crap and they contain 1-up capsule things to open.

Eggman does sorta remind me more of Sonic X’s Eggman…but this whole game seemed to have a more lighter mood…especially in comparison to the earlier 3d sonic stories. Even despite the fact that the planet was split into pieces. I guess it’s probably the way how the cutscenes were animated with the random slapstick moments…and the fact that Eggman actually had a bot with a smart mouth hangin around. He’s still seems to be more serious now though…what with the whole ‘gotcha bitch!..now die in space!’ and ‘I ain’t tellin you shit!’ moments.

ending

Spoiler

yyyyyeahhh…that whole ending was extremely filled with cheese :arazz: Good news is that we won’t be seeing chip again…EVER. Unless Eggman decides to open up the planet again. I wonder if that bracelet he put on his wrist has any significance for the next game…or if he just put it on for the hell of it. Probably the latter.

The sudden rock and sock em robot thing was cool at first…and then you realize that you can immediately punch gaia after he takes one swipe…then there’s no challenge at all to it lol

running section to hit Dark Gaia in the eyes didn’t kill me…but damn if I couldn’t go through them without getting tagged by something.

orchestral arrangement of endless possibilities was aight…but I still say it needed more epic. And I think I would have liked the Super Sonic section a bit better if it was done in a similiar way to Final Hazard…being constricted to that one plane around dark gaia until you went in for the attack felt kinda weird for me. I still need to S Rank it.

Where the hell was GUN during all of this?

complex shakes and alarms are going off
Soldier: SIR…Eggman just fired a cannon and split the planet into pieces!!
General:…looks at the screen then looks at Shadow…nah we’re just gonna chill here and sit tight…we got better things to do then worry about the planet getting split…
Soldier:…uhh…
General…Mahogany!

Knux could have easily have shown up in this game with the way his master emerald’s been breaking…just a breeze from the blast should of broke it.

Master Emerald:…=D
Knux:…
master emerald shatters and gets sent all over the place
Knux: WE’RE IN THE AIR AND ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE PLANET DAMMIT!

You wouldn’t have to play him he could have just made a cameo and complained about finding his stuff…and that would have been an inside joke lol.

LOL…seriously.

Knux: chilling and then boom for fucks sake…wait its not broken!?
Tour guide: And over there you can see the master emerald…master emerald breaks
Knux: Wtf? Time to get the rap group together…

Did anyone else notice the small nod that Sega of Japan gave to the American Sonic cartoons? This is the first game that they made official that chilli dogs are Sonic’s favorite food.

I didn’t, but then again I didn’t see the American cartoon either. When did that happen?

sonic was a crackhead for chilli dogs in the early 90’s cartoon series…

RANK E!!! WTF…chun-nan is a pain in the ass…I held X the entire time and got a low rank? get a E-rank with werehog for comedy gold

from the sound of things eggman land is going to make me buy a new tv…

im currently fighting the egg devil ray…then its more medal hunting…damn you knuckles

Hmm… listening to Shadow and maybe the Wii version really is better.

I know exactly which corner you mean. It’s the one after you dash across the really small gap, right turn, run between 4 gun turrets, and then sharp corner of doom… yes? Cuz seriously, that corner is hard as fuck to take properly.

EDIT: Eggmanland Day Stage: 4’15"976 :woot: Took me almost 2 hours to finally get that S rank. Goddamn this game is too awesome.

They say it in the 360 version since you can buy food and get experience points. It was a pretty cool nod cause Sega of Japan and Sega of America didn’t (and probably still have probs today) get along too well back in the day. There’s actually 2 different preconceptions of ‘Sonic’…the japanese and then the American one. American Sonic ate chilli dogs like it was nobodies business.

I’ve only survived that stupid corner at full speed once during my playthroughs of that stage. I’d be doing fine in the stage and then hit that corner and that’s when all the bullshit starts for me where I start fuckin up.

Wii version is ‘better’ cause you don’t have to deal with hub world or doing the search for medals in the stages.

360 has better gameplay though IMO. If you aren’t really the patient type and you want to have a more smooth playthrough of the game then Wii/ps2 is the way to go. If you don’t mind so much getting side tracked and gathering medals to open up stages but get the better play mechanics you want to get 360/ps3.

Yeah the gameplay sounds great, but I gotta say I don’t want to spend forever hunting for niggly bullshit. I will still get the PS3 version. After getting all the hunting out of the way, I’m sure I will love the hell out of it. But at the onset, I’m betting it is going to annoy me.

Okay so Egg Dragoon is the biggest chump boss ever. You can kill it in under 3 minutes and never let it get a single attack off. Why is the S rank 7min 30 sec?

Dark Gaia

[details=Spoiler]
Last boss is great though. The rock-'em-sock’em robots bit was rather cheesy (c’mon the temples turn into a mech:wtf:) and seriously easy (under 40 seconds). But the runs to hit him in the eyes were hella clever and fun. And the Super Sonic part was so much win. Hard, fast, fun, and with super epic music.[/details]

Now to S rank the Eggmanland Night Stages and find all the remaining items before the PS3 version drops.

This was without a doubt the best 3D Sonic game to date. Great gameplay mechanics and fun stage design (seriously even the werehog is fun). Music isn’t the best of the series, but solid. And I love most of the video scenes involving Sonic or Robotnik. Great action for Sonic, that really displays his fun-loving and confident attitude and speedy fighting. Robotnik is both menacing and silly, and it’s good fun. Too bad the actual story is utter garbage. Oh well.

Final Grade: 9/10

Thats a very fair assessment. You and I are in the same camp waiting for that PS3 version. I’d be playing the 360 version right now if blockbuster weren’t a bunch of chumps and actually got a copy of Unleashed.

Indy, for dodging the six-armed hand swipe of doom, try to line Sonic up with the part of Dark Gaia’s neck that he sticks out near the center of the screen. That’s the safe spot. I agree the safe place should be a little bigger though, it is a very difficult attack to avoid.

I just made it to empire city…man the music to good…it doesnt remind me of sonic adventure type stuff at all…no vocals in the stages…just great music

lots of variety…challenges for veterans and experts

easily the best sonic game ive played to date

One question… can you play super sonic at all?

Super Sonic is playable at the final boss only.

This game is cool. Even the dreaded werehog levels that every reviewer bashes…are kinda fun. Maybe it’s the beat-em-up fan in me, but I enjoy them. And, I’m talking about the lowly PS2 version that no one ever talks about.

If PS2 version is this cool, I can’t imagine how awesome this game is for PS3 or 360.

The manual (for PS2, at least) says “Dr. Robotnik” in parentheses next to “Dr. Eggman”. That pleased me immensely.

Eggman has never lost the name Robotnik. Dr. Ivo Robotnik is his real name in both Japan and America but japan started calling him eggman more cause it’s supposed to be Sonic and co’s nick name for him. Robotnik eventually just shrugged and took it as his own (starts around Adventure series).

Yeah, he was called Eggman by Sonic and co. because in the old games he pretty much looked like an egg with arms and legs.

Actually he was still Robotnick in Sonic Adventure 1. I think the change happened around Sonic Adventure 2. But he’ll forever be Robotnick for me.
