The Official Sonic the Hedgehog thread

Sonic Rush 1 is so much better than Sonic Rush Adventure.

The first Sonic Rush has linear gameplay, better levels, better music, and a better looking interface.

I don’t likey the new pirate treasure looking interface. :shake:

You gotta admit, though, that the second one has much cooler boss fights.

I loved BOTH Rush games. But the only area where I liked 1 over RA was the soundtrack and the extra boss. OTherwise RA Owned… HARD! Loved the hidden islands, loved the mission the game was overall a huge success IMHO.

RA Boss fights are EPIC. Ghost Pirate anyone? Ghost Pendulum? Sonic/Blaze vs Johnny and Black beard? (forgot his name  )

Explain why you feel that way? (Not liking Solaris) Just curious…

I’m curious as to your reason for hating on Solaris myself…but then again I never got all the way to the end of 2006.

as for gameplay looks no different than past 3d games…elaborate this a bit for me because I can sorta see what you’re trying to say and then I sorta can’t.

Camera is close to being about the same…except from what I’ve seen so far it hasn’t really obstructed your view or made any jumps nearly impossible

Updated Rush mechanic implemented looks like it works pretty well IMO

Side Step looks great and looks like it works

The ‘tight turn’ looks like it works as well

Anything that looks like you may not be able to see because you’re traveling too fast the game seems to give you ample warning.

and the whole werehog levels are new to the series and as of right now from my eyes are at the least decent.

What are your cons Specs?

amazing

I think Rush Adventure had better level design overall. Definitely better boss fights. And I really enjoyed the Jetski stages too.

Okay, the Hovercraft and Sub were ass though. And searching the map wasn’t my cup of tea either.

^ I also liked the Jetski levels, and none of the other vehicles.

About Solaris. The better question is: what exactly has Solaris done to warrant any sort of praise? I’ve seen no evidence of anything this antagonist has done or contributed to make me believe it is a villain of any repute. Isn’t there enough material in a story where Sonic is owning the shit out of Eggman, and Eggman gets a one-up on Super Sonic, draining his power for some nefarious purpose? Do we really need to introduce the lifestream here? At least in Chronicles, despite the shallow antagonist, at least that antagonist had a purpose, even if that purpose was to heavily characterize Knuckles. Ultimately the bad guy there wasn’t just added in for the sake of having some all-encompassing threat.

As for the gameplay, here’s what I see in the first level; a lot of running, and not a lot of anything else. I also see a section where the camera wildly swings around once you reach a certain section (this is not a good sign given Sonic Team’s history with cameras). Nothing about this looks any different than past Sonic Adventure titles, which hosted a myriad of control and design issues.

XD:rofl:

Game looks hot but I doubt i’ll be picking it up this year =/.

Well Solaris itself was actually relatively powerful considering its abilities…plus half of it actually managed to kill Sonic…something that Eggman had been trying to do for years. Even if it was relatively quick I still consider that to be significant. Didn’t Solaris like rip the foundation of the Time-Continuum by itself? If you’re going to make that relationship between knux and the antagonist in chronicles then Solaris does the same thing for Elise in 2006 even if Elise is a one off character and will probably never show up since 2006 doesn’t exist.

There’s a section in the video that i’m going to reference to at around 10:22 where there’s an open area with a few robots. The player completely misses the bots and by passes them then heads over to the side but the camera stayed behind sonic the entire time so he could see where he was going. It even looked like he had more control over the camera in that area and to compare it to the camera from SA and upwards…this was definitely not the case. The camera moved according to where sonic was in that area according to the programming that was implemented into it…even if you moved the camera to see exactly where you wanted to go especially if it was off the ‘path’ the camera would immediately readjust itself back to Sonic Team’s prefered camera angle instead of yours. I’ve seen this done before in a video that was shown aways back and I mentioned it there as well. If the swivel of the camera you’re refering too is in the section right before where the player missed that homing attack onto the spring then I didn’t have any problem with that at all. It moved exactly how I would have liked it too if I would have screwed up and showed the player that it needed to go back albeit in a subtle manner.

If this isn’t what you’re talking about specs then please provide me with some examples so that I may be on the same level with you and understand what you mean.

Edit:

Also the camera in this section of gameplay when the player is doing his platform looks like it works well to me right now.

The reason is because the REAL Villian was Mephiles not Solaris.

1)He duped alot of people Sliver, Eggman,
2) Caused problems for alot of people (mainly Shadow)
3)He killed Sonic Something Eggman have been doing for YEARS!

look at mephiles like Imperfect Cell from DBZ. Trying to reach his Ultimate form at all cost.

IGN 360 Unleashed preview:

basically…the article says this

Good News: Sonic stages are a blast!
Bad News:…Werehog…

:(…I’m still going to pick this up day 1 regardless anyway probably cause I’m a sucker lol.

Edit:
I will say however that I think reviewers will probably be a bit unfair to the Werehog sections…especially on the basis that ‘It has nothing to do with Sonic’.

lol @ this comment

IGN gave Adventure 2 a 9.5? That’s WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too generous.

If you keep giving Sonic Team money, they’ll keep making shit.

And consider the vast amount of games coming out this season, or already out, by developers who actually TRY. You don’t need Unleashed.

so I just bought Sonic Unleashed from ebay for $55.00 bucks

it should arrive next week…

god damnit specs…Im cheap…I havent bought a brand new game since brawl so ive been bored as hell lately…

whats on the 360 specs? shooters, more shooters? not a real fan of the genre

what else? banjo and kazooie?, mirror’s edge?,prince of persia?

how long can a platformer/adventure game last? how long til you see the same game for 15 bucks used somewhere?..

I choose sonic over everything else because I enjoy some of the games and are more familiar with the series, just like fighting games…

so your saying its shit? correct? oh fucking well…I play what amuses me and when unleashed doesnt do so I will resale for its worth

Let us know your thoughts when you get it. Thats assuming of course I haven’t picked it up by then either.

expect a full report…so you brought early to?

Already know this specs…if anything Unleashed looks like a step further in the correct direction…in the regular sonic levels department. So far people are saying that at least those levels are awesome so I’m sure sonic team will read up on whatever it is that is bad and correct it for the next game (hoping anyway…). For the record…I didn’t by 2006…They didn’t take my money from that shit…nor did I buy Riders Zero Gravity. Anything that is a somewhat step in the right direction I’ll cast my vote with my money.

You’re getting it early? Definitely let us know how it is ya know?

In other news…more trailers!

Wii Adabat trailer:

360 Holoska trailer:

WOOT!

No, but I plan on stopping by and picking it up the day it comes out.

That Holoska trailer really looks good. It really reminds me of Icecap zone and the music is great.

But that one was actually kinda fun. Decent kart racer/mulitplayer stuff.

Then you should have bought Zero Gravity, dude. It is one of the best racing games I’ve ever played. Seriously. I am not kidding nor am I exaggerating.
