The Official Sonic the Hedgehog thread

Grand Metropolis theme music makes everything worth it.

Sonic Unleashed is looking more interesting the further in development it gets.

I kind of like Endless Possibility.

any good Sonic hacks/fangames I should look into?
I got the Streets of Rage remake and its so good I would pay…well, less than $30 for it. its really good and I want some new Sonic content.

you know about the Sonic 2 HD project right?

of course, I downloaded the…little…test thing. looks great.

Sonic Megamix ^_^. Google it, because I’m not sure how this forum feels about direct ROM downloads.

It’s a Sonic fangame hacked from the base of Sonic 1. It has Sonic, Shadow, Mighty, Tails and Knuckles in it as well as revamped layouts for all zones, entirely new music (though all used from other games) and some new boss fights. It integrates some elements from the 3D games. For example, Sonic has the homing attack and light speed dash.

It’s an amazing work and LOTS of fun. Easily my favorite fan-hack.

My thoughts exactly.

Carby? Didn’t know you posted here.

Anyway, Sonic Megamix is pretty fun. Pretty damn fast too.

Yesh, I do indeed post here. Hi Darkstalker ^_^.

I was at work today and I was looking through the reserve list and highlighting titles that should be good…and then I noticed that 360 had something called Sonic Genesis Collection on it. I tried looking up on it when I got back home but there isn’t really any info on it. I’m wondering about it because for 1 thing they’ve already released sonic 1 and 2 on xbla and 2nd thing being that Sonic Mega Collection is on regular xbox and I’m pretty sure it’s backwards compatible…so what is it that they are going to put in this one that is going to tempt people to buy it?

The return of chao!

Good ROM hacks?

How about Robotnik’s Revenge?

Take Sonic 1’s bosses, Sonic 2’s bosses, throw all of 'em into Death Egg Zone, and fight all of 'em one after the other. Sound like fun?

Two modes:

-Time Attack: You’re given 3 rings and a star post before each fight. Of course, with infinite lives, you’re guaranteed to get through the gauntlet. The drawback is the time doesn’t stop if you get killed (it only pauses for the title card to show up again). The grade given at the end is based on your total time.

-Survival: You get no rings, and only three lives (but the checkpoints remain), so don’t screw up. The grade here is number of bosses defeated before you get the game over.

IGN review http://ds.ign.com/articles/913/913197p1.html

lol.

meh, I wasnt going to get Chronicles anyways.

it looked shitty from the start, quit lying to yourselves.

Nooo… No, no, no, Chronicles actually looked promising. If Chronicles looked shitty from the start then so did KOTOR(which it did IMO), and that turned out to be a great friggin game. It’s Bioware, they knew what they were doing. They’re biggest downfall was probably SEGA themselves. From the review it seems that it’s way more kid friendly than they’re used to.

The review doesn’t break the deal for me, especially considering reviews are pretty mixed so far. Then add to that not one reviewer I’ve come across really understands what a good Sonic game is. I’ll definitely pick it up eventually.

its just the idea of translating the Sonic formula (fun platforming, fun physics, speed) and translating that into an rpg just seemed like such a huge step backwards. plus the isometric view reminded me of Sonic 3D Blast, which didnt help.

the whole thing turned me off from the beginning.

Did you actually read the review or just see the 6.5 and laugh?

Some of the reviewer’s complaints seem valid, like repetitive combat/quests and less dialog tree interaction than he wanted to see. Others don’t, like the classic “Sonic is about speed” argument that always fails when the Genesis is brought up and and knocking a game for SIMPLICITY of all things.

Not saying the game is bad or good, or that this review is an indicator of the final product. But it is only one review, with some valid elements and some questionable ones.

Even if the game ends up being a total pile of shit, it did NOT look shitty from the start at all, and was backed by a VERY credible game developer. Hindsight is 20/20.

What other reviews are there? Please link.

Also, this whole “no reviewer understands what makes a good Sonic game” attitude is the stuff of fanboyism. PLENTY of reviewers understand what makes a good game. Sonic is not some magical property that is exempt from standards. Taking that attitude leads to the whole “there’s a conspiracy to destroy Sonic amongst game reviewers” nonsense that too many hopeless Sonic zealots tell themselves in bed at night.

In other words, if the majority of reviews SLAM Chronicles and many point out the same flaws, there’s a pretty good chance it wasn’t very good.

EDIT - Another review, this one echoing the “good but not great” sentiment IGN had. This concerns me.

I was so expecting ign of all places to bring up the speed thing that’s why I lol’ed.

I’ve been following the game closely from the start I know it’s going to be a generic rpg with biowares signature mechanics splashed with sonic flavor but the point is that’s what I’m content with.

Ah. My bad. :china: I thought you were laughing because it got a less-than-stellar review. Seems I’m a touch defensive about this title. :wgrin:

GameRankings.com has a few other scores but not the actual text reviews. Nintendo Power gave it 8 out of 10, which means very little because Nintendo Power doesn’t give too many big name titles much less than that. Game Informer gave it 8.5 out of 10, but I’ve read Game Informer a grand total of never so I’m not sure if they give out credible reviews or are just another Play Magazine. I’m interested in the RPGamer.com review. They love their JRPGs a little too much for my tastes but they actually call out flaws.

Of course, a simple demo would be the best way to tell…

Why you gotta laugh at that for?

STFU

I get where you’re commoing from. But the bolded part your paragraph that I bolded, Some Sonic fans feel that way because the “reviewers” tend to rip on Sonic on some baby shit and still suck Rockstar Game’s dick every time a fucking GTA came comes ou, giving them a perfect** TEN**. Get the fuck out of here with that…

My point, while overarated as fuck games gets 9.5’s and 10’s when they DEFINATELY dont deserve it, some less popular franchises (like Sonic) gets 6.5’s and 7’s cause its “not like the classics”, fuck that.

Watch and see even if Unleashed have perfect gameplay, they will somehow STILL give it no more than a 6.5 or 7. BET IT. :bluu:

and before you how on the band wagon on not getting Chronicles here are some other reviews, http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/941521.asp

Edit: does anybody know how many chapters are in this game? Some say its 10 others says that they found out its 20 (via hacking) :wonder:
