The Official Sonic the Hedgehog thread

oh, I used to work for SEGA up until very recently (at Eidos now) so I can speak from experience.

@ anyone actually honestly thinking about buying this day one:

The last good Sonic game made by Sonic Team was Sonic 1 on the Genesis. Maybe Sonic CD if you’re a fan of its level design (I wasn’t). That’s. IT.

  • STI made Sonic 2, 3, and Knuckles.

  • Dimps made all three Sonic Advance games and both Rush titles.

  • While I hear poor things about the PSP Sonic titles, they have their fans. However, again, neither was made by Sonic Team.

  • The Adventure games were not good. They had their moments, yes. So did the various Cruis’n titles. The Adventure titles, along with all the 3D Sonic games, are marred by poor controls, camera, and game mechanics that never improved (and in some cases got worse) with time.

Sonic Team is making Sonic Unleashed. That should be enough to prevent ANYBODY of sound mind from outright buying it without either a rental or waiting for (non-Play Magazine) reviews to hit the web. This is a development studio that epitomizes laziness. How many times must you buy magic beans that don’t work? WAIT and SEE. Don’t be blind fanboys.

The werehedgehog gameplay doesn’t look bad at all. I could see that being pretty fun and might be a nice break from the speed portions of the game. However I hope most of the game ends up being about speed and not turning into some fanfic version of sonic.

I liked it.

I’ve said a million times that I can’t stand rail sliding, because your not actually playing the game. But the speed seems like how all Sonic games should have been. I would like a few more open environments where you get to determine where you run.

But overall it looks promising.

The song sounds like it was written by a shitty highschool band.

“These possibilities, deep inside of me, and now I feel so free.” Rhyme more please. :stuck_out_tongue:

Wow at most people so quick to hate on Werehog…honestly it doesn’t look that bad especially in comparison to what’s been done in the past…I’M HAPPY THAT IT’S AT LEAST DECENT.

Song choice…agreed…song is pretty much not up to par…It’s done by ‘bowling for soup’…WHERE THE HELL IS CRUSH 40 DAMMIT!? We still don’t know if Jun Senoue is doing the other music for this game or not…

Preview:

so far they’ve said the game still needs some work and dips in frame rate…which i’m sure won’t be a problem…right sega? This game still has some ways to go but it still has much potential…probably going to have to wait till TGS to see more of a complete version.

I loled when Werehedgehog slowly carried that item over to the switch thing.

I’m not full of venomous hate but when I read shit like that I weep. This isn’t me fanboying out because I’m not getting Sonic 4. This is me weeping because I’m watching a company continue to falter on getting level design right.

Wtf? Ok just because I bought Rush twice doesn’t mean I still want to just run non-stop through stages. Damn don’t they get it? Running through a stage in less than 90 secs in the older Sonics was only achieved once you figured out the best path. You earned the right to be a speed freak. It wasn’t just handed to you like you like it is now.

Just someone shoot me already. Please. I almost want to gather fans of Sonic with programming, art, and music skills and create Sonic 4.

Again!

FUCK SEGA AND SONIC TEAM!!!

yes, the weresonic parts are garbage…
out of curiosity though, are they done with the whole mutant blob type shit? are we back to fighting robotnik at the end of each 2 or 3 stages where he uses a new vehicle/device to try to kill us?

just curious…fuck all this OTHER shit. get back to the basics. and dead that werehedgehog bull. shit sounds dumb on paper and looks dumb in the vids.

question:

did the sonic game on the Wii have all this dumb nonsense? Because i remember seeing the commercial for it and seemed like it went back to its roots with just him speeding through levels.

On rails, with a gimmicky control scheme. Think StarFox 64’s landmaster segments sped up, but worse in every possible way.

Sonic’s “roots” were never about speed. Play Sonic 1 again. I will agree that speed is what it became… but just because a Sonic game, or ANY game for that matter, is “slow” doesn’t mean it’s bad. The worst levels in the 3D Sonic titles were not bad because they were slow; they were bad because they played like shit.

I’ve heard that there isn’t going to be any…but then I’ve also heard about mini-games so I’m going to assume that it will be local and not have an online component beyond DLC.

Nah, its been easy dodging the other sonic titles with ease to the point where I didn’t know some even existed.

With that said, yeah I’m dodging this game unless the last boss battle is fuckin’ crazy.
This game isn’t even on my “don’t play” list. I’m just gonna pretend this game never happened…

Seriously, the werewolf thing is a huge turn away =/
Just thinking about it…

Me playing the game and my room-mates walk in as Sonic is turning into a werewolf. Oh shit, I got some explaining to do ;o

Do it please.

Alright. Hopes have been slightly raised again. Gamespot had a live stream of Sonic Unleashed with a PR guy taking questions. I think the fault of the game so far has been it’s trailers because it’s just too perfect. They choose to show just the speed portions with no mistakes and no platforming etc, but with this live demo there is actually platforming, with confirmation that it’s not completely on rails. I really think some people will feel better about this game after seeing this. 25 minutes as well.

There is also a Sonic Chronicles live demo from the same link.

wow…looks like you can control it a bit more than the trailers seem to be letting on…and did I just see sonic run along the wall?

Edit:

Werehog gameplay=God of Warish+One Piece

Edit 2:
guy was getting his ass kicked by the enemies in chronicles…lol and apparently Dio Brando likes sonic

those “werehog” segments look underwhelming at best. oh well. hopefully they will toss in enough variety in them to make it fun

I think all the trailers showed that you had quite a bit of control. The 2.5D segments looked a lot like stuff out of the Rush games. The behind-the-back stuff showed jumping over and steering around obstacles, attacking enemies, drift cornering, Boost Mode, using the triggers to quick-dash left and right… Good times. Like Secret Rings, only vastly improved in every aspect.

Fans uproar about not liking the werewolf part of the game should convince sega to take that shit out of the game. its stupid. Why make a game thats coming along VERY nicely, then say hey, i got a great idea, lets fuck it up.

If its still in there come launch day for the game, thats one game ill never rent or buy.
