The Official Sonic the Hedgehog thread

I’m going to toss in more of my two cents some time later today on the earlier discussion…

I’m amused at the fact that the moment I mention something about not having enough info on the game then that cheesy ass trailer for the wii version comes out. So there’s a boxing glove item and some type of ‘super horn’…still don’t know what activates the all star moves.

watching all that pissed me off.

Of all things, she says you can ride bananas.

What i wanna know is who was that kid playing and why should i give a fuck? I hate “trailers” that have someone feeding us info, and supposedly “playing” the game right then and there. They’re lazy, and uninvented. That’s what demonstrations are for. You wanna grab my attention? Then try harder to make this not look like another Mario Kart rip off, by showing me stuff i havn’t seen yet via your trailer.

Reading back over everything earlier I think Specs summed up mostly my thoughts on it. The inconsistency in story shouldn’t really matter especially since Sega did something of a compromise with Eggman. Eggman is still Robotnik and I often call the character both names and people still understand who I’m talking about. Him not being a bad ass is also probably a matter of opinion though…I’d say the stuff he did during SA2 was enough (holding amy at gun point, shooting sonic out into space and blowing him up, blowing up a Prison Island that I’m sure had collateral damage off screen). I mean it is kinda funny that he’s the antagonist that’s been the most serious in trying to kill off Sonic and a one time half boss shows up and is able to pull off a long distance back shank and got the job done…but that didn’t really happen so I suppose we’re not gonna count that lol.

I also have to say there’s a difference between a game that’s ‘marketed towards children’ and a game that ‘a child is able to play’. Basically most of the popular E titles aren’t really targeting towards kids…they’re targeting everyone. If Sega hasn’t been doing that with the series then that probably one of the main problems with the series since most games that are marketed towards children are buggy ass messes with not much thought put into it…We’re talking about your sponge bobs, your dora the explorers, and usually anything having to do with Nick Jr. or the like. Games that a child is able to play do have kids in mind but the target audience is much broader so more work is put into it to make it polished…That’s where Zelda, Mario, Megaman, Ratchet and Clank and the like go.

And for the record I do like Shadow and I actually think he’s still been living under his actions that took place in the past (you guys killed my friend ;.; Now I’m going to send a Space Colony down to fuck up everyone’s couch!). His game didn’t help mattters either. I actually think he’s one of the better characters that Sega has come up with and he could actually play a better role story wise in his current position at G.U.N. but they haven’t really done much. I mean…where the hell was G.U.N. during the whole Unleashed fiasco? You’d have thought they would have sent out some agents to figure out what the hell is going on.

P.S. Hydrocity is one of my favorite levels out of 3K. It was the first time showing that Sonic could run on the water and the stage is really fast. The only time I’ve ever had trouble with Sonic being underwater was Labyrinth Zone from Sonic 1 and most of it had to do with the Boss battle. Sandopolis Zone 2 though…I’ll give ya’ll that.

Agreed on the Hydrocity stages. Labyrinth lives up to it’s name though
Man I think I forgotten how to beat Sandopolis Act 2 now XD

Fun fact: Hydrocity is pronounced “Hy DRA city” not “hydro city”

I don’t have in probs with Sandopolis Act 2 but back in the day…when this game first came out that stage was one of the bane’s of my existence and it actually stopped me from beating the game for a long time…especially that god damn slide loop.

Me back in the day: GOD DAMMIT! I’m sliding and and rolling forever! Am I supposed to be doing this!?
Me upon figuring it out:…really? that was it? FML

When i figure out that i had to jump off the damn thing onto the other slide (or was it that swinging thing…whatever it was all situational in my head) i felt like a god. lol One of those big instances that threw off the game to me…that and Carnival Zones up/down spinning barrel.

Hey hey hey. We don’t talk about Carnival Nights up and down barrels. Shits off limits cause it causes horrific Vietnam style flash backs man.

Que SFX’s

bombs dropping, guns shooting, soldiers marching

Charlie in the treeeeeeeeeeees!!!

Carnival Nights Z2 trap gimmick was fuckin beastly, I went so much as to obtain a water shield and preyed I didn’t lose it up until that part. I would just bounce the fuck outta that barrel until I somehow got underneath

Sandopolis is an annoying zone, it’s the biggest zone in S&K and it’s filled with some of the toughest badniks you’ll find in a OG sonic. Having those lights go out on you was not fun as a kid, really.

my brother always made me play that level for him. it was the few times i got to play S&K those saturday mornings. i hated it, and so did he…but i loved the music.

Oh how I loathed the barrel in Carnival Night Act 2. That sucker actually kept me from beating Sonic 3 when I was a kid. Back when Sega had a hot line for help with game’s the, IIRC, one of the main options was getting past that freaking barrel.

Pretty much sums up what all of us that got stuck and didn’t get it thought.

The Spinning Barrel™ even drove me and my bro nuts when we got the Sonic collection and finally decided to beat Sonic 3&K, we tried random shit just so we can get past it, then we looked up GameFAQs
Sandopolis’ sand slides were another bane.

When I let my nephews play Sonic 3 I will NOT tell them about the Barrel, just warn them that the stage will drive them nuts; they’ll think it’s because of the water. Then when they get to the barrel, I think I’ll let them frustratingly try to bypass it and then show them how to beat it.
tl;dr Anyone who plays Sonic 3 HAS to go through the torment of the Barrel.

oh yes…Whenever it is that I have kids and they decide they want to play some old school games and they get to that…I’m just going to watch with this horrible sadistic grin on my face.

v lmao…weird ass imagery.

…i remember the all nighter i pulled back in 3rd grade ('96-'97 ish) trying to figure that damn barrel out. All those time overs still haunt me…If i could only feel that Ecstasy again when I finally did figure out that all i had to do was press up and down in unison with the damn thing. It was euphoric. Like at that moment, God looked me in the face and told me that I was his best creation.

Is Sonic 4 worth buying? (IOS)

More specifically, Epd 2?
