Works okay if you are playing on Wakeup, and if you want to mix it up a bit. If you can’t parry it could complicate things.
Am I the only one who actually thinks the Metsu looks awesome? It reminds me of the opening of the SFII: The Animated Movie when Ryu was fighting Sagat.
Denjin would have been too beast in SF4.
That single Ultra alone would make Ryu either near top tier, or arguably the best character in the game, if it was his Ultra without any modifications from his SFIII counterpart (excluding NG Denjin version).
If a Ryu knocked you down, and had a Denjin Ultra, you minus will go back to the money changing machine and pop in another bill.
Wish I played a little more using Ryu.
Ryu is pretty fast in this game, and I love that there’s very small cool down for hadokens.
I saw an alright vid of ryu the play was daigo but i’m not sure. the use of ryu’s ultra at the end was awesome. I hope the video helps out with the thread

Why is Ryu using the Satsui no Hadou for Metsu Hadouken?
Well Canon-wise it kind of makes sense. It was stated that by the time of SF3 Ryu had cleansed his mind, body and soul of the murderous intent. SF4 is before that so I guess Ryu’s soul is still tainted or w/e.
I do love the expression on his face when he does it. He looks like he REALLY wants to kill his opponent, which is such a stark contrast to his life philosophy.
I wish he had a custom win quote when he finished an opponent with it.
He could have a face like this. :shake: And then fall to his knees and say something like, “What have I done?”
It would be amazing to see his anguish as a result of tapping into the darker side of his powers.
To me it just looks like he’s putting all he’s got into one attack, not going evil or whatever. And he was already over his evil side by SF2.

On topic: Ryu losing joudan kick isn’t that big of a deal. I’m more pissed that f + fp isn’t up to ST standards.
I wish people would just quit this SF story crap and either talk about strategies and attack properties or just not post. There is already a SF4 General Discussion Thread and the Capcom anime threads (first anime, second anime) so the ones willing to talk about these things that do not really matter have a place to post. There are people interested in gameplay, and as they can not play the game yet, they must rely on videos and forums/blogs, being that this thread is the only place for SF4 Ryu strategies in SRK, and it will remain so until they create a SF4 section in the Strategy Zone.

So far, has there been any match ups between certain characters that Ryu has a clear advantage over due to his ability to zone this out, or punish them on whiffs or what nots?
Also, what matches so far seem to be Ryu’s most difficult matches thus far, or on the long, will prove to be that case. These are some of the things that I would personally really like to know at this point in time.
