so i wonder if i do crossup with mk and do it later, would i be less vulnerable to reversal dp too? or just mk in general has way less block stun?

If people keep spamming reversal DP’s on me I just stop my block strings mid combo or jump in MK -> block then lol at them when they eat a more damaging combos for scrubbing it up.

you have to hit the HK DEEEP into them for it to work, and you can’t do it early, it has to be timed very well

Does anyone have any tips in the matchup against Blanka and M.Bison?

Blanka I find is a tough match. He can EX roll through fireballs, even at full screen and his slide has massive range on it. Crossing up Blanka is another no-no because of his Electricity, and even if you can get in and keep the pressure up, his Ultra does sick amounts of damage, even on block. I can not beat him consistently, I find I am having to take risks, like predicting when a slide will come out and hoping to dragon it in order to keep the momentum and dominate the match. So anyone have any tips?

M. Bison is another very tough match. He can EX Scissor Kick through fireballs and his pokes are better than Ryu’s, at his standing RH range he can clobber you very easily. His teleport lets him get out of trouble and his LK Scissor Kick is safe on block.

I don’t have a positive win ratio against good blankas, but I can help with some of the problems you mentioned.

You can cross up blanka with jumping lk, but the timing is a little tricky if you are crossing up on wake up. You do not have to block his full ultra. Blanka will start low for the first hit of the ultra and then jumps forward while still spinning. At this point of time a hp.dp will take him out. (You have to wait for him to drop to about Ryu’s shoulder level before you dp) FADC into ultra to make sure blanka never abuses his ultra for chip damage again.

As for bison (dictator), I sometimes use focus attacks to counter his pokes sometimes lp.dp. If you connect with a lp.dp punish with super.
I sometimes also bait ex.scissors kick with fireball FADC (backwards) and try to punish.

you shouldnt be blocking blankas full ultra. you block the part where he goes in the air, on the way down its a timed fierce SRK(might trade depending on SRK meatyness) to ultra for his ass or an ex srk. if youre using ken its even sweeter, ultra everytime on his way down.

u still have to block the part where he hits ur head right? then uppercut right after?

no, the only part you block is the part you have to block low, the part that puts you in that stun state then just time a meaty fierce srk or ex on his way down.

against blanka what i do is

swiching from down lp( counter blanka roll) to Fa( counter blanka slide)
if he rolls and you block him with down lp then you can throw as soon as he touch the ground or overhead or pressur with tick
if he slide to breack you lp use FA time to time and punish him

as soon as he have ex don t spam fireball and don t try to pressure hi in wake up game. you can try to make him use is ex by pressuring at wake up game and switch to guard at the last moment.

I never use EX barre, I wait for super. it will make blanka roll pressure finish. and if he roll on you guard then punish him

Once I have super I go to the point that LP blanka roll will finish just in fron of me.
lot of blanka player afraid of hitting you on guard will then use lp roll to pressure. so as soon as he roll just punish him once he land in front of you.

if you can finish the round without using super try it. it will keep the super amti roll pressure for next round.

and if you put blanka in the ground and he doesn t have ex, pressure him a lot, he have no AA will standing up.

that all, but it s true that it s mach up is not easy especially if you have less life no super barre in front of a blanka sitting down with ex meters…

In terms of keeping the pressure on when you score a knock-down on Blanka, what’s best to do? If he has an EX bar, it’s risky to throw a Hado as he can EX through it on reversal.

Ranix, you say that if Blanka has no EX then you can jump in on him after a knockdown, but can’t he still Electricity at this point?

Also after a blocked ball, other tan super, is there anything else that you can do to punish Blanka?

As for M.Bison (Dictator), what do you guys do after his tick into Scissor Kick pattern? If you poke, it will whiff, giving him a free Scissor Kick. I try and wait for a split second and then cr.MK if he starts moving in, but this is Focus Attack bait and that can lead to a crumple which is hella bad.

Blanka is one of the tougher matches for me. Ranix has a pretty good strat. I would advise going for cross-ups on Blanka’s wakeup as you’ll eat electricity every time.

I try to get a lot of footsie games in with Blanka. If you guys are jockeying back and forth (you actually SEE him walk forward and know he doesn’t have charge) I do a lot of focus attack mind-games. If you’re at the tip of his slide range and he doesn’t have charge, I focus attack all day long. If he slides, crumple -> free combo. If he doesn’t slide, dash either in or out, up to you.

I like to put myself just in range of Ryu’s FA. From this range I use a mix of c.mk and c.mp, FA’s, occasional jump cross ups, and if the timing feels right psychic shoryu’s (definitely do not try to psychic shoryu if he has ultra).

If you FA, I switch up a lot between letting out instant FA’s -> dash in -> whatever and going for super long charges until he panics and tries to get out one of his long range slow normals (like c.hp or c.hk) for a crumple.

Something to think about when throwing c.mk’s - be careful about canceling into hado’s since he can ex ball through it on reaction (like boxer can headbutt for free).

For Dictator, a couple of things I do if he keeps at a far range is spam fireballs til goes for a headstomp or devil’s reverse. If he headstomps, neutral jump hk wins cleanly (unless he EX’s, which I think trades). If you guys are in a bit closer, one FA bait I use is I space myself so that when he does a scissor kick he only hits me once. Absorb, crumple, free combo. I try to stay away from the range where he can pull off jump-in crossups, cuz Bison’s jump in crossup is rape. I can not read that thing at all it’s a coinflip for me.

QUESTION - can ryu FA to standing rush fierce,cr.mp,cr.hp,hp.dragon punch this combo should be about 6 hits can this work:wgrin:

substitute c.mp with c.lp and it works. standing mp after the f.hp also works but not sure about c+mp and even if that was to work, i think it would be difficult to get the c.hp to hit after.

i’ve learned that, if you have 1 ex meter you can just ex dp as soon as he activates ultra and 1 of either 2 things will happen

  1. you hit him
  2. you go through him

either way you wont be taking any dmg

well i have seen daigo do this combo on youtube against an unknown guile all that was different was that he didn’t do the rush fierce after the FA and when that is done ryu is very deep inside the character so if he had added it i don’t see why it should not work.It just amazes me how ryu and ken in ANY street fighter are never nerfed but guile always gets raped IN one way or the other:mad:

after rush fierce cr.mp is possible. i aready have done it. i didn t do the cr hp mext so i don t know if it s possible.

but just as cfay sad timing is quite hard so not so good to use in fight.

if you can master rush to st.mp it will be already good damge after Fa.

the good thing of mastering rush into st.mp is that it can make you use this kind of very damaging combo with ryu Fa, rush hp, st.mp, hado, Fa cancel dash, st hp. ex tatsu, ultra. it work only if you are ot far from corner after Fa but it s a 19 hit combo and hal life damage ^^. but need 3 ex meter and ultra.
if you are really close to cornr you can cr.hp, hado after Fa instead of th rush hp. cr mp , hado part.

i did n knew that blanka can use electricity as AA in wake up game. are u sure of this? doesn t he need some frame activation?

Pretty sure yeah. After throwing with Ryu (so opponent cannot quick recover), I go for meaty cross-up Jump-in MK. Blanka activates Electricity and it beats me clean. Very frustrating!

When you guys go for cr.HP xx Hado FADC, does it matter which strength Hado you use? This is not a combo I use, but it sounds fun to pull off.

Also in the corner, a combo I use is cr.lp x 2, cr.mp xx EX Tatsu, Ultra. Lots of damage for only one EX stock. Just watch out because sometimes the EX Tatsu doesn’t juggle properly, but it’s rare.

Yeah the problem with EX Tatsu -> ultra type combos is that the damage scaling is already huge at that point and your ultra will do little damage tacked onto the end of it. If it’s going to end the round, by all means, but if not, I’d save the ultra for another opportunity. (anti-air srk or air-to-air mp into ultra, srk FADC ultra, whatever)

My favorite corner combo to do is (whatever you use to get to this point) -> cr.mp xx EX tatsu, link ex fireball, link ultra. The ultra does like, 0 damage at this point but the damage to the opponents ego makes it worth it. If you don’t have ultra, ex tatus -> ex fireball -> ex tatus achieves the same results.

Which reminds me of another combo I tried the other day. I combo’d a jab shoryu -> super (note that this is not shoryu XX super, he was falling down when I super’d) and after the super I threw out an ultra. The ultra connected, but it only connected for 2 hits and then the opponent just fell through. Any idea why this happened?

Maybe the juggle limit? Ultra reduces the limit, not removes, or something like that, just like with Guile with the super and ultra.

Yeah I’ve noticed that the Super / Ultra thing too. It’s strange that it connects and then all of a sudden stops.
