I didnt literally mean no one, but compared to SF4 or umvc3 its a very low number.
Naw I know. I agree with that
It sounded like your post was condemning Skullgirls for removing execution hurdles that, when scrutinized, are almost never necessary; if that wasn’t your intent, I misunderstood, and my bad.
Old timer, yes. But I’m no tourney player, just an enthusiast, avid audience member, and dude what loves reading assessments and FAQs of fighting game mechanics, frames, etc.
As mentioned, many much more articulate people than I have already made apparent SFxT’s flaws. I share many of the same concerns. Gems. Gems gems gems. Needing to grind out or pre-order great gems to be competitive is bad for every kind of gamer, “hardcore,” “casual,” or otherwise. It’s cumbersome, even if the grind/buy wasn’t involved. SFxT already had, before gems, chain combos, tech rolling, TTT-style lifebars and round lost conditions, EX moves, supers, two very different kinds of double team supers, Tekken-style chains for the Tekken cast, chargeable specials leading to free EXes and supers, chargeable EXes leading into the same super, tagging during specials to extend combos, and more. With a huge, and growing, cast.
The game was already rife with depth and mechanical exploration. Gems serve nothing, other than a fun side mode ala Heroes and Heralds. There already was customization: your team selection. And the gems aiming to “help newbies,” don’t. There’s no help inherent in auto-blocking. Maybe in auto-throw teching, maybe.
There’s other things, like (DISCLAIMER: I hear this may not be the case anymore) how you can’t chain into certain specials… but they’ll work on an arbitrarily difficult link (SF4 all over again); and the meter-costing auto-combo that makes something already braindead easy (L, M, H, H) even easier. The game seems like a mess.
I am hoping the flaws will be outweighed by the things it does right. It seems like a mesh between SF4 and TTT with a touch of marvel in their. For me I love SF4 but I dont think its crazy enough, and I feel like you dont have enough creativity with combos. I always loved marvel but I felt like it would be much better without the insane assist spam and footsies feel a bit too insane in it for my tastes. This game looks like something at base level will be enjoyable by me because it takes what I like about sf4 but removes the aspects I dont like.
Idk I really have stayed away from this forum because every time I come here it seems absolutely toxic. I understand that gems seem stupid to alot of people but I thought it was kind of cool to be able to tailor my bonuses to my play style, I dont see it being that far off from selecting which super you want. Hopefully they wont be as gamebreaking as people think they will be but time will tell.
I think you can only cancel chains with EX moves, I keep hearing that on streams but I could be wrong. Also I hear links wont be as strict in SFxT as in SF4.
About links; I always liked links, it made it so you really had to focus on a character ( which I can never do ) because the timing can be so strict. Also it really separated the guys who put the time in from those who didn’t. I hate fighting games that you can put minimal effort into and come out on top, tight links always seemed to make that never happen. For instance my friend has insane reflexes and is very smart, but he doesn’t want to put the time in, in SF4 i can wipe the floor with him because links are such a huge deal, but in games like SC his reactions can overcome me having good game knowledge after he plays a few rounds and figures out what is safe and what isn’t.
I admit I dont like some of the things that skull girls is doing with regard to execution, but everything else about the game has got me more excited to play that then anything on the radar right now, that is unless girl fight ends up being the next 3rd strike.
you keep mentioning flaws about SFxTK yet you go back and say…“well other people had said it already” kinda is running in circles. beside for your opinion on gems, you say the game was already rich with content…for one thats a load of crap. The game was always a work in progress, as a “fortunate” person to play an early build of the game I can tell you they were progressively adding and taking out things per build. the E3 Build didn’t have things like CrossAssault or CrossArts, let along new additions, but the game always had it right? The game used to be chain heavy but the changed, you used to be able to tag out when you were on wake up, gone, Cross Assault used to be Semi-Auto, not anymore. Gems may have been planned from the very beginning, but were not implemented until later , everything about that game was trail and error, but you seem to think otherwise. The same question could be said about Cross Assault, Pandora, or even CrossRush because none of those mechanics were in the original alpha version of the game when they showed it at SDCC 2010’, At best they had a prototype to what would be CrossArts they showed then.
I could ask you a few questions like, have you played the game with Gems?, do you know if gems are useless like you imply they are?, is it a fact Gems cant help people learn fundamentals in a fighting game? you seem to know all the answers because other people have spoken for you right?
I’m not trying to rude or anything like that, however your prejudging the game before its even out. I’m being Optimistic at this point after playing it and trying to understand what they can do for the game.
@Jarekov: I’ve no real issue with links per se, I’ve an issue with putting them on a pedestal. Caveat: if there was a link buffer at the end of moves, that would be a-okay. As for Skullgirls, the simpler the execution and the deeper the, well, depth, the better.
@therook: That’s a common defense that doesn’t hold water. The gem system explanation is clear and its impact is assessable without my needing to get my hands on the game. As for what the game was before gems were announced, I’m pretty damn certain everything I claimed was in the game before gems were announced, so please don’t selectively choose that cutoff to add credence to an argument, unless something I said was in the game before gems were announced actually wasn’t.
Sigh im going to dismiss the last comment, but trying to downplay Gems because they were not in any playable builds before hand…is ignorant, if you want to believe that, cool…im done.
Nice straw man, but what I actually said was what I actually said.
dude, just stop…you already lost all credibility when you said you didn’t need to play the game period
Ya know what would be awesome. If we all tried for like an hour to discuss things without talking about the other person at all while doing it.
At the end of the day everything and i mean fucking everything is subjective opinion, everyones opinion means just as much. If we stopped acting like such fucking dick heads all the time we would get more people feeling comfortable to post. More people posting is healthy for the forums, I would also appreciate getting more peoples input on the game that way I can gauge the communities response to the game.
I don’t know, Apparently playing the game doesn’t mean anything you know. I’ve played SFxTK for a decent amount of time, with and without gems, I don’t have and real problems with the game but i take everything as a grain of salt…you know as its a work in progress. There are more then a handful of people who played the game…you can asked them, sure i could tell you how i feel about the game but what difference does it make? in the end its up to you make the decision for yourself im i right?
I can tell your right now the list of things i dont like about the game is far less then the opposite so i’ll just list what i didn’t like from the initial Gem build i played(pre-Bison/Jin)
-I didn’t really understand at first why they took away the ability to tag out on wake up, so initially i didn’t like it because i was used to it from the last build I had played.
-Some move property changes and regeneration from CrossRushes bugged me, the amount of health that characters were regaining made alot of matches slower(however there still were not any time outs). The move properties change was sudden and kinda annoying as like alot of people, i come here for info on characters i want to test, come to find out that a certain move doesnt work the way it did before is kinda bewildering during a match when winner stays…short to say alot of them were random changes.
-from PAX to Gem pace change and another initial dislike, as the chains imo made the game feel alot faster and more marvel like, everything felt rapid and spontaneous, the Gem build…like the one before had slowed things down, however i just didn’t realize how much. Links were there and after the first few matches, i went back to using Cammy and landing Links are alot easier(im pretty bad at doing them in SFIV without P-Linking). Juggling also felt different in my opinion, mostly because air to air was so good, and using air normals from a wall bounce was something i always wanted to do since watching the E3 trailer.
-last thing was trying to fully understand how chains worked in that build, short to say, the only chains i did was from Cr.MK to Cr.HK , hit confirming two Cr.LP/LK to L, M, H, H, or Stand MK, HK, HP+HK. it was rather frustrating initially though…
-the only thing i kinda wish the Gems had was something of a more obvious indicator on when your Gems were going to run out, other then seeing your character glow, you really didn’t know how much time you had left…I counted in my head but it was tough because multiple gems started to activate…throwing off the time, i didnt want to try in pay attention to my Gems then my opponent so, its just something i though could have been helpful as they have indicators when you at 25% health…so i thought maybe gems should have something to let people know when they are about to crap out.
everything else, besides how the game is marketed, I either like, indifferent, or don’t really care about it…
I already explained why this is an invalid argument, but hey, whatever turns you on.
Yeah its up to us to make the decision but all the vitriol in the threads around here wether its negative or positive towards the game makes people not want to get involved with the game, especially not want to get in on the discussion. When the game does drop its going to suck if we don’t have enough people involved community wide to keep the flow of information updated and with diverse opinions.
Btw i’m not aiming at this at anyone in particular, SRK in general is filled with fucking trolls and assholes, sadly the good community members are far out done by the dicks most of the time. I still get shit for being an 09 member, sorry assholes I wasn’t super interested in joining a forum earlier in my life, let me suck your dick since you’ve been posting stupid shit on here longer then me.
Why are you guys arguing in a rant thread? The whole point of this thread is to rant! Let people express their distaste for the game if they want, once it releases we’ll all be able to form a real opinion. We CAN have friendly ranting!
FUCK YOU NO WE CAN’T. >:( I AM ARGUING WITH YOU IN THE RANTING THREAD NOW
/insane mode off
We need an arguing thread
This feels like MVC3 all over again. One week it’s “OMG SO HYPE MY BODY IS READY!” then next week it’s back to “FUCK YOU CRAPCOM, CASUAL GAMES.ANYONE DEFENDING THIS GAME IS A CAPCOM FANBOY/NUTHUGGER.” Was it always this way for the older games???
The game “should” do well, both casually and in the community, latest builds feel more fined tuned to what people can call “tournament worthy” …the community is going to get behind it anyways like what they did with SFIV, back then I didn’t play fighting games competitively(semi-comp) but I read the same BS then, that im reading now…so forgive me for standing up for what I believe in. SFIV people said the same things about Ultras and Focus and other things about the game…in the end look what happened…it exploded. sure ST and 3S purist are still going to hate on it, they can keep playing ST/HDR and 3S…everyone wins.
Generally speaking~ SRK has alot of nice people, Ben being one of the many~ the Mods here are friendly yet Strict but for the most part everyone gets along, the Internet is filled with trolls, not just here but everywhere( imo its worse in places like GameFaqs Forums) so thats nothing new, however everyone learns to deal with it(I’m still learning how) one way or another…you had it rough with that 09ers BS. It never happened to me, but it seems like some harsh discrimination.
I agree about it being the same crap that happened with SF4, and I’ve actually said it a few times: SRK does this with every new game before it comes out.
I’m not trying to aim anything at you or anyone, just in general this thread and a lot of the sfxt threads seem toxic from people going way too hard.
I have been part of plenty of bull shit on SRK almost to the infamous point, but that was when I was all cock hard and retarded, getting past being a kid and having a bunch of fucked up things happen in your life puts everything into perspective. At the end of the day were calling people ridiculous shit and making them feel awful over a game.
Ok enough of this subject from me I will shut the fuck up about it henceforth.
So you’ve actually gotten some good hands on time with the game, I haven’t really seen too much done with the juggle system, like the most I see is one or two hits into super. How far do you think the juggling system can go? like did you get to try any shenanigans with it?
Also a lot of people are saying the tekken characters look like shit, I would have to disagree, in particular Heihachi, Raven, Yoshi, and King all look very strong. Did you get any hands on time with the tekken characters and did they feel balanced to you?
12 DLC guys incoming, including Cody and Guy who where teased in July.
What
The
Fuck
Do Capcom want to be hated!?! WHY I bet we find at least 6 on the disk those conning twonks!
Well, you see, it’s totally reasonable because they have to spend time modeling and animating Guy, Dudley, Sakura, Cody, and Blanka. It’s not as if those characters are being held back from the fans because Capcom wants money and has an inexplicable desire to release Street Fighter characters and Tekken characters at the same time.
