The Official Ranting Thread

At First I was Hype for this. Then they just started putting a bunch of features into it that don’t make any F**king sense. Ill give the game a chance but my hype for it is dead, and my expectations are low at this point.

well there are some people who still try to keep it on track…for the most part…

Such is the internet, sadly :frowning:

No worries blatant fanboyism aside there are valid points to be made.

I do have to wonder if they goes the way it’s looking to go if the fanbase will really speak with their wallet and just not buy it?
And if if flop’s badly due to awful design flaws will the blame be on a saturate FG market or will it go where it belongs?

I think “fanboyism” is like the mission statement of this game XD

Based on the backlash I’ve seen, this could prove to be a costly mistake for them. There’s a lot of people that aren’t pleased with this game.

I’d include myself on that list due to several factors from Roster to Pandora to the worst of all Gems.

It’s definitely looking pretty fucking bleak right now. I think I started worrying when Keth Sillian announced that “Pandora wasn’t a finalized thing/could be cut”. It just confirmed that they were shoehorning stuff into the game, then rolling it out to see what stuck (Spoilers: none of it stuck)

The Gems aren’t as big of an issue for me, since I don’t think I’ll be using them. I can certainly see why people fear the DLC gems though, given Capcom’s track record…

I get what your saying but…i think its too soon to think that the game will flop because of its current state. think if this was 2007 and you heard about the focus system…you would say…that shit sounds so stupid…and it will never work…long and behold, by god it does.

this game does have a crap-ton of sub systems…and im not one for having so many systems, but if it works then…there isnt much to really say. I can’t really hate and say that Pandora is this system that if it never saw the light of day it would make the game better…however it was announced and to this day people say its a comeback mechanic…i say if its usesless…don’t uses it~ if you get killed by it…oh wellz right? same goes with Cross Assaults and CrossArts too.

DLC gems seem like to be the only thing hindering Gems actual overall acceptance among the FG community…which is a bit surprising that alot of people have actually warmed up to the idea in using them. anyways…i think we just gotta wait…

Only problem with the focus system is how shitty they made some of the attacks. Some people just might as well not have it. Similarly with the focus cancels, some of them are 6 levels of shitty in some characters. When the best some characters can do with focus cancel is a gimmick or just use it to escape a bad situation…you know the system might as well be dumped in the garbage.

At least in GG Roman Cancels in False Roman Cancels were just useful all around for all characters for various reasons. Focus canceling is the retarded afterbirth of that system. Gems are just really shitty versions of the runes in League of Legends but without really understanding why its shitty for fighting games and not for LoL.

I’ve defended Ono plenty of times for a lot of stuff that he did. But after taking a good look at SF4, I don’t want him to make any more fighting games. MvC3 was probably going in an awesome direction before X-factor; I can forget about X-factor and still be pretty satisfied with the game underneath. But now with SF4 with chain combos plus OUTRAGEOUS thrown on top…well fuck it.

People excited about Gems are usually the ones that have no idea why customization is awesome in other games and why it is so amazing to come from those games to fighting games where that shit didn’t exist.

Is it truly,truly,truly outrageous?

Lol Poison

All kidding aside i agree with you completely.

Actually runes are shitty for LoL too, it’s just that it’s some casual pissgame by definition so nobody cares.

I know what you mean when you talk about the focus system~ its more of a mixed bag but with that system, it changed how you played that game from say SF2…

Gems on their own are not bad, but capcom isn’t really showing how “good” this system could be either. I like what Gems can offer~ but i don’t like the Pre-order incentive idea…as it kill the point in alot of aspects…you know besides the obvious marketing scam…like online passes…

i like how you mention GG though as that game is truly for the Hardcore~ sure its accessible by causal players but it only really shines when played by people who understand the games mechanics…however sadly that game wasn’t popular among casuals and in end result is only really known by the FG community.

when comparing the focus system to the roman cancel for GG you have two different learning curves and obvious uses and advantages…in short the focus system was something easy to understand and grasp and didn’t have much of a learning curve outside of the dash canceling…where as roman cancels were never really explained in any tutorial and had a much longer and harder learning curve. I agree with you it being a better system but it isn’t the best thing when trying to appeal to casuals…

I had my hopes for this game and have been pretty silent in my opinion on the dev announcements on new modes and features for SF X T. But it’s become clear that this game is not worth my time nor should it be worth any of yours. Now I know opinions are very subjective and we all know it’s hard to take internet bitching as highly regarded fact, but if there is one thing I can say about my fandom for FG’s is that they are not only monumental but very influential in my life. I practically play any fighting game if there is someone willing to play it. Sometimes it ranges from the dismally bad to the GOAT. FG’s in general are wrapped around me tighter than a noose. I flat out love them, I however do not like this game.

Let me count the ways…

  1. Over saturated retina burning graphics and design.

Capcom needs to hire some professional designers, for fuck sakes there are millions of them looking for work who have the ability to adaptively bend to the will of Capcom but not sacrifice good ernest talent. They have expertise in focal, typography, environmental design, colour theory etc. Many important tasteful techniques of which Capcom seemingly neglected. However if this stuff was added at at an earlier stage they have been very clever in masking it for the general audience. Many people already have issues with the SFIV models and repeating the offense with heavy saturation filters does not help. The screen burn is this game is exhaustive and it’s not helped by the shaky firework HUD which for some asinine reason shakes every time someone is attacked! Many of the stages are lifelessly busy featuring robotic movements (although not new to FG backgrounds, is almost criminal in this game) surrounded by noisy stages that in no way suggest subtlety. Many stages of which have real context to the SF series or the Tekken series. It all makes for a dull experience and an eye sore of a game. I could go on but I won’t, I would be on this forever.

  1. Boring gameplay and lazy uncreative mechanics

How could you get this so wrong? I understand SF and Tekken are very different games, which cater to different audiences and making a game that caters to both is a daunting task but it seems like too many sacrifices were made many of which neglect the best mechanics of both franchises. Not eliminating problematic things about the SFIV series (floaty jumps, huge reversal windows, shortcuts etc.) and completely ignoring some of the great things about Tekken (counter throws, cool juggles, awesome chain variations etc.). Just because a character shares similar attributes and movesets does not mean it truly honors the integrity of that design. It seems that mechanics and additives like pandora and gem mode are really gimmicky and have no bold or truly original purpose and really pander to poor cover - up for a poor uninspired game. Stop trying to pull out all the stops Capcom don’t you realize that the characters merging universes is already awesome enough? Nobody likes your posturing, you loose sight of what is important. If chains are important to the feel of the game at least make them cool like Darkstalkers or MVC1.

  1. Bad Music

I love chip tunes and techno inspired by chip tunes but I hate this dull washed up techno trying to chip. It’s really annoying elevator music set in the bleak future Capcom has been ushering in with there FG franchise.

  1. Questionable Roster…um wait, THREE STRIKES YOU’RE OUT.

I’ve seen, read, and heard enough about his game to tell you that it’s a misguided effort and should not be supported. If you buy this game please buy it second hand. Don’t feed the trolls, nothing good ever comes from it.

From the start i respect you putting into detail things you are concerned about in SFxTK and you are entitled to your opinion~ so hopefully i’ll keep my reply short and to the point, i just want to go over the points you made.

-Design: while this game looks idential to SFIV, its something alot of people have grew acustom to…it took me awhile to get used to the chunky looking characters but in the end…if i seen another 3D render of a SF character, they mite look weird(except that TxSF Ryu…godlike mugshot). The stages range from really cool to kinda meh in their own respect as the destroyed downtown stage has a great vibe and makes you feel like this game really is a crossover, however Mishima Zaibatsu/Old Temple stage is crazy and has alot going on, the multi-tier stage idea is cool but with all the characters running back and forth can bring distraction to spectators. Another thing to add is the games Visual Theme is Water and Fire, as Ink was the Visual Theme for SFIV. This game uses alot of glossy water-like effects from the character models themselves or the water streak that is seen when a launcher is used, the fire that sparks on hit dectection and damage on the health bar…though i like them putting effort in small details like that…sometimes less is more…especially when it comes to the HUD.

-Mechanics: I think it maybe a tad too much when it comes to all the sub-systems but, if it ends up working, i won’t have any complaints. at this point, its hard to say…

-Music: while you were talking about the BGM, i think you should consider all the music in this game, as they do have some kick-ass themes in this game. some of the original tracks are bland, however the remixes are good, like the ones from the Final Fight stage or the Temple stage. The Remix of Volcanic Rim is epic and the Remix of Tags opening is passable, this game doesn’t have a terrible OST…just not every track stands out. however…that character select music gotta go…

-Roster:Currently we are up to 28 character(minus PS3/Vita Exclusives) and its been mostly characters from reused from SFIV, however the new additions are fresh and blend in nicely with those returning. Roster honestly is a hard thing to talk about because everyone has a character or characters they want it…and i don’t think its possible to include everyone…so it doesnt help saying your character is a clone or has too similar to a fighting style to someone who is already there. I will say that we have until march to see the full roster and i pray there are some secrets laying in wait for us.

pretty much, i feel that the people who are hyped for this game, or people who haven’t played it yet should give it a try. however…if your unsure about it…don’t blow $60 on a guess… make sure you want it because your going to lose more then money if you trade it in the next day…your wasting your time and that is worse then losing money.

You guys still haven’t got over Poison? Geez… you people are so silly.
Yeah, Poison is in for many reasons, it was due, she’s a character that remained popular due to controversy and design. Believe me she was consistently popular in Japan even though she’s a minor character in FF, bear in mind as minor as Rolento and fking Sodom, which all became a part of SF universe seeing both are in fact the same. And she was always there, in Alpha series and more prominently in 3S, this time Poison is going to fight alongside Hugo. Big deal, what are we actually losing? Another copy pasted character from SF4? Seth?

And yeah she was made possible due to a very vocal fanbase which started asking for Poison as early as during the early development months of Super Street Fighter IV. And yup, I’m glad of being a part of it. How many people can say “I influenced a major commercial release” like the fans who started this movement or tons of Skullgirls followers (Shoutouts to Mr.X as I have a famous rage pauser in my area)?

*FADC Glasses… wait for it… … …"
Deal with it!

On topic:

My major rant about this game is how it’s turning out to be weaker in the competitive sense of the game. Too many systems that really don’t add much to the strategy table. The fact that the whole gameplay was developed with gems in mind. Even if the core game turns out to be solid and competitive (say, if they go back to what it was on the E3 build with all the crazy combos, footsie heavy gameplay, less BS and more risk/reward factor etc.) now that Gems will always be mandatory people will play with them, even though they’ll only making a disservice on how to play fighting games. I was fine with the “casual centric” gameplay elements if they served as a door to a more real fighting game experience, like KOFXIII, SG or even E3 SFxTK. Gems would be great as a side mode like UMVC3’s H&H if anything they could slap even some RPGs elements to it, but only if it remained separated from the core gameplay.

And then there are those weird decisions like removing the chains xx specials which basically kills the whole combo system in the game. Or that Lv2 Charge Dash = Free Counter Hit. In my years as a FG player I’m still amazed with a well placed frame trap in order to create a counter hit setup (if the game’s CH mechanics allowed so) to see that counter hit only combo or trade combo, it’s one of the smartest things in FG, you need to condition your opponent and then create the setup and then profit. Now niggas are going to get a free CH for basically doing a Lv2 Focus dash from full screen? Blah!

I want this game to be competitive, but I’m fearing that the no-gem gameplay might become too unbalanced for a sustained tournament life. I want Poison to body fools and win tournaments in my area with her, not to troll people only with whatever purple/pink combination team I can muster.

PS: yeah, yeah, she/he, her/him, typing that all the time is annoying.

Complaining is also free advertising for them.

Wait, last I’d heard the most complained about shortcuts weren’t in the game? Did that change? Also, considering the game isn’t out yet, I feel its hard to judge whether or not the juggles are going to be cool.

Supposedly, there’s a gem which allows for SFIV-esque shortcuts, as well as mvc3-esque simple mode options. Undoubtedly, I’ll bet that the bad macros will still be present.

Back on to the ranting:

1)Wasted potential
By jove, wasted potential. If I wanted to point out every little place where Ono could have done so much more with the game, I would lose all of my monthly bandwith, so I’ll stick to the main areas of complaints.

[]Why are there so little mechanics taken from Tekken? While I wasn’t expecting this game to play like Tekken, they could have easily implemented features such as variable chains(shoutouts to doyoudigworms), sidestep/dash specific moves, and many more in exchange for SFIV-.
[
]**Why does the gem system do so little? *Alright, save the rotten fruit and here me out first. When Gems were advertised as ‘game changing’, I expected some form of change. Kind of like how grooves worked in CVS2, you know? Maybe gems which reassigned lp+lk to an instant overhead (in exchange, no non-command throws) or ones which made your character’s dash projectile invincible, but in exchange took away one of your specials. Maybe those were bad examples, but gems which actually change the game mechanics as opposed to the assist gem farce or the less-than-mediocre “do X for Y” system which will only be used to boost Z’s play-style which they do in their sleep anyway. It doesn’t promote change – It promotes laziness. It should either be a well-thought out system with MENSA ironing out the kinks, or one which never left the drawing board.
[]**Why are so many characters being remade for this game? **I feel so sorry for those who will have their favourite character represented in this and have it be their last reiteration until god knows when. I also happen to feel sorry for Karin fans or fans of Red Mars, thanks to the unnameable atrocity. Really, Poison and Hugo should have featured in another, better game. Which leads me to my next point…
[
]Why is Ono piloting this project? No seriously, why? Did they not see the rest of his work and think “Well, maybe he shouldn’t lead something this delicate”? Does Capcom not realize how much hate Ono has against him and see it is X-Pac heat, as opposed to like-to-hate heat? Why has Ono not done the honourable thing and retired over MVC3? Why?
[]Why is this game being tailored specifically towards casuals? I say this in part because of the DMC fan-base, and one of the arguments used against making DMC5 more scrub-friendly : “A better game for hardcores means a better game for casuals.” Seriously. If SFxT was designed to re-ignite the FGC flame and rally us on a glorious crusade, I have no doubt it would be sweeter than chocolate-filled-pancakes and Ice-cream laced with liquid diabetes. This is being used as a sell-out to the casuals with some interest, and nothing more.
[
]**Why is this being released around the same time as Diablo 3? **It’s almost starting to feel like a throwaway release.

*By which I mean some serious effort is being put in

But the gems that do that lower your stats and take up a gem slot. Seems like a shit trade off for me.

Calling for Ono’s retirement when everything he has helmed is turning a nice profit make’s you look like an asshole.
