ahh i c~ yeah your right…but alot of people for one reason or another have to use online to get decent competition~
you still hyped for SFxTK? or is it officially dead at this point?

I am excited I understand everyone’s concerns, i see why there are issues with gems. But as far as I am concerned, I am very hype for the game.
also hype for Skullgirls and SCV
same here for SkullGirls and SCV~ but at the end of the day you can’t please everyone…i hope SFxTK doesnt Suffer because of bad marketing decisions and a few salty people~
Bad marketing decisions are way more of concern than anything - so, it’s Capcom burying their own grave with this (which is kinda funny).
brennan why do you know what to say at times like these~ your really good at this.
I have to agree with this. Capcom’s marketing doesn’t seem to know what the fuck is going on. The backlash on the gem system has been pretty huge - and that shitty show ain’t helping it - and instead of changing their plans and trying to explain this properly, they’re sticking to the plan and keeping the drought of info.
If this game bombs, a lot of people will lose their jobs due to this marketing fiasco, that’s for sure.
The game isn’t tournament viable since capcom doesn’t want it to be, so I’ll just move along and play some other game designed for that environment.
I have realised a while ago that If I have to “adapt” a game so much that banning a main feature is the only way to make it tournamente viable then I’m better off playing something else.
And I’m not talking about balance, I don’t even care about that, what I mean is that they give us a chopped game and we are supposed to play it happily.
You can’t announce that gems are the most RAD THING of the game and implement it so damn poorly. Even selecting them is a pain. And the things they do are actually crappy and lackluster.
the game isn’t tournament viable because of gems is what your trying to say? among other little things…you say they are giving us a chopped game but the reality of the situation is you want a game that is built about the tournament scene then around casuals. but you know as well as i do that those kind of games don’t sell all that well, and games are a market of business…if shit don’t sell, shit don’t get made.
Gem’s were announced a while later down the line sure…but no other FG has even tried to implement something like this on this scale~ i doubt anyone would nail it the first time out… saying that it isnt don’t right is hard to say at this point, sure we would like the gem selection screen to be that of the character select screen but for one reason or another it isn’t…why? Idk~ so more or less for the sake of argument Gems will most likely be taken out the tournament scene because of that fact.
selecting Gems isnt as streamline as selecting Assist apparently so it isnt on the character select screen(i would hope…at this time) hopefully before release this is a concern that is addressed.
So us non casuals have he right to trash the game because the biggest two fighting franchises heading off in a game where its HEAVILY revolved around the casual. Yea there’s nothing with it, its a bizness but those who play fighting games seriously/semi seriously can express their salt if they want and can choose to refuse to buy it and convince others not to.
As for me, I was watching TTT 2 videos on the front page today and by God that tag system is sooo great and awesome. Its hard to watch that then watch sfXt lolz. Btw when I heard “45 pre order gems”, I was done.
I think it’s chopped because of the way they handled gems. You just can’t give the main attraction of the game such treatment. Why the heck does my buddy that bought the game in place A get gems X and I that bought it in place B gets gems Y? And why o why people that pre order get a different bonus from the get go?
Why not make all the gems available from the start and give different crap as dlc, things that are optional to the gameplay and not paramount, such as costumes?
This game is taking a direction no one in their right mind should like, casual or not. The direction it’s taken is way too greedy, ok, companies want money, I dig it… but this is too damn much.
If you look at Tekken Tag2 it was a game Designed for the Fighting Game Community~ hell it wont hit consoles till next X-Mas…but if you look at their design principles they are very different from that of the SF development team.
SFxTK is a fighting game that “everyone” can play, its why they stressed so hard for non-gamers and casuals being able to pick-up and play this. There are things for competitive gamers but thats not what they are trying to sell or who they are trying to appeal to.
Tag2 on the other hand…Tekken in General is a Game Series that is played by people who like tekken, you dont see many SF players getting hyped for tag2, but the fact is that Tag2 is geared and targeted towards a certain audience. Tekken for the most part have always been for the say…serious/semi serious FG player as there was no tutorial modes or systems to make the game drastically easier or simple.
the point im trying to make is…you getting bent out of shape because SFxTK isnt appealing to You or other Serious FG community players at this time. I’m also kinda mad that they are catering to the masses then to people who are going to put the most time and effort into the game, but you know…shit happens
Edit: @ Futch
Man I know what you mean by the whole marketing sceme behind different pre-order bonuses but that however isn’t limited to SFxTK but other Games as well(FFXIII-2 is also plagued by that)
That is something at is way out of this conversations hands as its a whole corporate movement among most big american game developers (EA being the leader in this BS), its changing the game industry as a whole and we gamers don’t have much we can do about it…like with online passes and other Corporate nonsense.
We had a rant thread this entire time? Neat! Let’s do this.
It seems like a lot of the competitive scene (or at least this forum) still seem to have a lot of unwarranted fear and anger in regards to this game, and it really bugs me more than anything.
Regarding Gems: I doubt I could say much that others have not yet said. They are still working on it, and we have almost three months until release. A LOT can still change, although I am extremely hopeful at this point. To me, it’s looking like the gems are going to be more oriented for home and online play, since the shots we’ve seen so far seem similar to the menus in MvC3 that allow you to preselect teams (i.e. the one far from the character select screen). In addition, the power boosts (and detriments) seem marginal at best. This is not X-Factor by a long shot. Short version: I can’t see pro players caring very much if gems are used in tourneys or not. Tournaments can opt not to use gems, which can cut selection time, and thus gimmicks take a backseat to raw skill. Problem solved.
Regarding “My character isn’t in the game! No buy!”: I get this feeling, I really do…but I can’t say I agree with it, at least not anymore. Here’s an example: My favorite comic for the past 5 years has been the Daredevil books, and I REALLY wanted him in Ultimate Marvel above all other characters. However, after thinking about it, I doubt he would add much (from a gameplay standpoint) that Spider-Man and Iron Fist don’t. This applies to Mega Man as well. Once Zero is in with the moves that he has, there really isn’t as much reason to put in Megaman anyway. The last thing I want are a bunch of clones of similar characters that end up never getting used (I’m looking at you, Marvel 2). Besides, I ended getting two other of my favorite characters from the Capcom side (Nemesis and Phoenix Wright), as well as Daredevil’s Shadowland stage, so it’s pretty much a fair trade in my eyes.
You want another example? I originally wanted E. Honda for SFxT. I figured we were just going to get a rehashed roster from SSF4, so I might as well just hope for my favorite character from that game. It’s not like we should expect anything new from the Street Fighter side of the roster, right?
Instead, I saw this:

HUGO! SHINING WIZARDS! MOTHERHUGGING POISON! IT’S A MARKOUT MOMENT! I’M MARKING OUT BRO!
All joking aside, you see what I’m getting at. Just because we don’t get what we want initially doesn’t mean it won’t still be fun game on its own merits. Sometimes, it turns out to be even better than expected.
The one thing I hate more than anything about this game has nothing to do with the game itself. I’ve played a pre-gem build of the game, and it is a ton of fun even without them. The absolute last thing I want to see happen is the wave of unjustified criticism kill the hype for players who haven’t played the game yet. If we want the game to do well, we should be willing to give the game a chance, and allow ourselves to have fun with whatever form the game ultimately takes. If the game proves itself to be tournament friendly, then great. I know we will see some great streams from it. If not, it doesn’t mean I still won’t have fun playing it.
Think about how long the Mortal Kombat community has gone without a large tournament scene, yet they still play for the pure simple love of the game. And they aren’t the only ones. Think about communities like Melty Blood, Virtua Fighter, and what remains of the Smash community. I’m sure any of them would tell you that not having mainstream tourney attention doesn’t make their games any less fun.
If you’re reading this post, odds are good that you like fighting games. I like fighting games too. Let’s just stop worrying and play some games.
Oh Capcom better hope they make back all the lost sales by including the gem system via their bullshit gem dlc. If the game was what it was 8 months ago, I would’ve bought it. It’s like with every update, it just gets progressively worse. Watch them throw in helper characters like from MvC1. You have to pay to get all the good helpers too!
Fuck this I’m sticking to AE until Diablo 3 comes out.
Robbie i liked your post~ it hit home for me. this game in essence is a monumental game, as it being a important crossover and being released during SF anniversary to top it off~ when it was Initially Announced it had so much Buzz…and Hype and any other word you use to show how big it really was…now 3 months from release, peoples opinion of the game has changed dramatically…and not for the better either…to me from my perspective it has been a hype rollercoaster from having high points to very low points in its hype and overall presentation to me and the world.
Its easy to tell you guys the highs because to me they are the most memorable in this games case~
Easily the announcement at SDCC 2010’ was pretty damn awesome, after SDCC however the game went underground and we didnt really get much until Captivate 2011’ but another High point was indeed SDCC 2011’! as it was pretty damn hype…i think that was when the game was at its most hype…I played it at PAX and i loved it…so i was even more hyped about it. but i think when that rollcaster started to go down into a steep decline was when they announced Pandora at TGS.
its funny because im still indifferent about the whole system where as most of the community at this point has dubbed it “usesless”. aside from announcing Lili and Rolento…they hinted at Gems and then…later as you know that shit storm came to past and we are at this point…SFxTK having a shitty webshow and having its fans staved for reveals on actual characters and other potential game modes systems and features…
hopefully that rollercoaster will ascend up again before march because it seems there is only a Cart full of guys left in here…
They just have to take it down a notch. They are overloading the game with modes/features that aren’t revolutionary or were not asked for, just to appease the casual player base. It’s not that the inclusion of Pandora or the Gem system would make SFxT an instant buy to these players in the first place. I’m not stating that these modes are bad, since we haven’t got the chance yet to test it out, but they are just extras for the moment that maybe shouldn’t have been added to this game after all. It’s just pulling down the title.
I suspect that the promotion of SFxT will be picking up very soon. AE 2012 just came out, and Capcom still has UMvC3’s Heroes and Heralds mode slated to come out December 19th. If we factor in some time off for the holidays, and the announcement of more new characters in the new year, we can start to see a tentative info release schedule for Capcom begin to form. I believe that the info and renders we got over the past couple of days is just the start.
I see what you’re driving at, but I am reminded of the many diehard players who were requesting a sort of online training mode. Last I checked, online training mode was confirmed for being in the game. The only problem is that it seems that everyone is so focused on how hard the gem system may or may not suck that it distracts us from the other cool things already in the game. I can’t be the only one looking forward to 4-player simultaneous 2v2 battles, can I?
True.
Sorry if my post made it kinda look as if I disliked for instance the online training mode. That’s not the case (I for instance like the 4 player brawl, crazy stuff). I think that the modes that were announced before the Gem system were great and sufficed for this game. Your point on the fact that the Gem system are making us forget that there are other features is right. That was what I tried to express in that post.
Capcom for now has to take a halt with adding modes the FGC hasn’t ask for (Gems for example). The idea that Gems will make the game easier is not completely true. Think about it: the player has Cross Assault, Pandora (what most people don’t activate simply 'cause they forgot it during the fighting, look at the gameplay videos, has hardly been used), Gems (people keeping in mind when or how to make them work, need to block x amount of times, do x EX moves, etc,…), build meter (to perform a Super Art,…),…
I like the game as it was and I still do. What the game had before the Gems was enough. I’m not hating on the Gems (although DLC worries me), I’ll just wait and see how they’ll work out in the final product.
silly boy that doesnt know about that Chaos Breaker (Dark Awake)
http://wiki.shoryuken.com/Chaos_Breaker_(Dark_Awake)
imo they did a great job with it
btw this game needs more love imo
also SC4 did the same thing of the gems with their equipment, though the effects were only avaible in their own mode
edit
i have to say that im dissapointed with the gem system, i know that not many here are fan of the idea, but i was relly interested to see what ono wanted to do with it, the current gem systme doesnt do anything ground breaking like he implied with his "my ryu is different from your ryu"
right now i think that this lackluster gem system is product of the backlash about the whole gems subject; i was really hoping for true customization mechanic here, hey if they are going to add a controversial feature, at least they should go all nuts about it
another thing is that the way that they are handling the game, shows that they are not sure about what they want to do with it
the 1st say 0 comeback mechanics to later add the pandora mode, they give us a open combo system to take it away later leaving us with a dry one instead
i was right when i said that i should wait for TxSF instead, lol
i was very skeptycal about the game at the begining, but they got my hype around the 2nd wave of reveals, hjust to kill it with all the dumb stuff that they have been doing
the good thing is that i have BBCSEX, SG, SC5, P4UMA the next year, not to mention all the other good title that came before
your right, i was oblivious to a game that wasn’t really popular, but popularity is no excuse for execution but Chaos Breaker has its own share of problems too with using items in battle…but im sure you knew that already.
i woke up this morning with a good analogy…
Pre TGS build of SFxTK for the most part…is like…Pound Cake. ok hear me out…Its plain, simple…but good right? thats how the older builds of SFxTK were to us, it was simple and it was to the point.
Post NYCC Build of SFxTK(including Gems at a certain point) is like Strawberry Ice Cream Cake with the works…so what in the hell do i mean by that? well thats easy…it just has too much stuff on it. most people will pick off what they don’t like on said cake and eat whats left right? that is what it seems like what we are doing to SFxTK…
Gems, Pandora, ect. are the extra whip cream that i could do without is pretty much what the community is saying. the community wants their good ol’ fashion pound cake back. but Capcom is fresh out of pound cake…so what do we do with our Strawberry Ice cream cake? throw it away because we don’t want to pick it apart? or just give in and eat it, knowing your not going to like it? or not eat it at all and have those good ol’ KOFXIII cupcakes…lolz…(im hungry now)
if you get what i mean by all that it should be very clear whats happening, and it isnt really good for SFxTK…
I would compare SFxT to eating whipped cream off of your significant other. It’s not about the taste, it’s about the experience.
