Since I got my 360 Achievement boner last summer, one thing that sways me into buying games are trophies. Like most gamers, I like seeing a number rise with the more I play something, then show it off regardless if people care or not. It’s just a fun thing to do, and outside of multiplayer(which I am biased to when it comes to most games), it validates enjoying the single player side of the game. A few of the games I plan to pick up are games I already beat on the 360 simple because I want the trophies(Red Faction Guerilla, Dead Space, Sacred 2, etc). Yes, I like gathering shit that much. It’s why in WoW my characters bank is full of obsolete gear that I cant bring to sell/destroy. I just feel good having it all.
It’s also why I have a small gripe with SOCOM Confrontation and Disgaea 3. Almost ALL of the trophies in those games are damn near impossible or take a shitload of time to complete. Disgaea 3 has many that are based purely on dumb luck.
Yea man that game was awesome. It was actually a POP game. They failed to do that for the two before this one. Sucks they are going back to those shitty Sands games. Sands of Time was the only good one.
Yeah, you don’t wanna abuse Hero Actions or you run the risk of getting into a Critical Condition, where you’re basically fucked. One of the big things to learn is that handguns = your buddy. They break enemy life gauges down into parts, and everytime a gauge is broken the enemy gets stunned. You can save a teammate from a potential hit like this, as well as lock single enemies down to the point where they can’t do much of anything other than get raped. In addition, when you damage an enemy and their life bar lowers past one of those parts it’s broken down into, you get a Hero Gauge Bezel back. That way you can keep using Hero Actions without running out.
I hated Xenosaga. The only one that wasn’t garbage IMO was 2, and that was because it was minimal Shion/more Jr. and you actually got to play that game more than you watched it. It had like secret dungeons and cool shit that RPGs should have.
Well, if you want to know the whole “story” (LOL) you’d want to start from the first game. It’s a shame the DS version of Ep. 1 and 2 never came out here, from what I understand it doesn’t suck the like PS2 version.
I really wish Sony would hop to it on that PS2 emulation thing, I kinda wanna play FFXII after I get done with RoF, but then I have to go into my brother’s room to play the PS2.
Basically.
Regarding PoP, can you pick it up relatively cheap nowadays? Always wanted to try it out, since they fucked up the Sands series hard.
Sadly at this point I just don’t care. I really wanted a new game in the new POP universe, not the Sands one that I grew to dislike quite a bit. I just don’t care about Sands anymore. After that beautiful, vivid world they gave us in POP 08 I just have no desire to go back to shades of brown and a whinny Prince. Not after the fun, charming Prince from 08.
Yea I think Chibi got his for like 20-25 bucks or something.
yeah, trust me… i’m not saying i’m a huge fan of xenosaga, but i would actually play it again as opposed to playing xenogears. the battle system wasn’t as pointless, and there’s no “xenogears disc 2”. i don’t mind sitting back and watching cutscenes, and for all intents and purposes, the characters had more personality because of it.
but yeah… not a mindblowing game to say the least, but xenogears just isn’t that fun to me, and because i wasn’t having as much fun, the flaws stood out to me that much more.
Xenosaga 3 was the best. It seems they actually got most things right in that game. Too bad people didn’t care anymore after the fail that was Xenosaga 2 and Namco’s non-existant advertising campaign/shitty marketing decisions (XS2 was never released in EU). The only things XS2 had that were better than the others were:
Less focus on Shion.
Trailers.
Albedo.
That’s it. Real talk, was mad hype. Xenosaga trailers as a whole were pretty good for RPG trailers, imo.
XS2’s gameplay was garbage. Almost as annoying as FF13’s in the fact that you do shit for damage until you “break” the enemy. And it was a bitch to find some enemies’ break combos. Some enemies even had roulette shit going on where their break combo would change up every time they hit break status or if they used some dumb ability.
One thing that stayed godlike in the entire XS series, though, was the music. Too many epic songs to name. We need more music like that in games. For the record, XS2’s scene music composer is different from the level/town composer. The dungeon and town music in XS2 was trash, but the cutscene music was just amazing. Can’t fuck with “.”
But yeah, for people wanting to play the Xeno games, just play Xenogears, then XS1 thru XS3 and judge for yourselves.
EDIT: That nigga Allen is the best thing to happen to the Xenosaga games.
EDIT 2: Also, I don’t know how the fuck some of you don’t like the cutscenes. They’re mad entertaining. Lots of J-aqPim0TsA]fight scenes (Kosmos) and (Albedo).
What are some PSN game recommendations? I’ve d/led Critter Crunch, Flow(when it was free), MvC2, STHD remix, Fat Princess(which I never play) and FF7.
Right now I’ve got my eye on Pixel Junk Monsters/Shooter/Eden. Racer kinda looks… very bad. I’ve held my breath forever for Castle Crashers to even get a release date. I’ve only played the PJ monsters demo but the other ones look pretty good… Anybody have any experience with those games and any recommendations for any other PSN game?
Pixel Junk Monsters is a Tower defense game. So only get it if you are into TD (also has a co-op mode).
If you are into FPS then you can’t go wrong with Battlefield 1943. Fun $15 game. I had a blast with it.
Get Bionic Commando: Rearmed, its way better than the new generation game. (Has co-op and deathmatch)
If you are into tetris type games then Lumines is a buy.
Futuristic racing with sweet graphics get Wipeout HD (game is hard if you have never played wipeout before)
I hear Trine is pretty good, never played it but i think there is a demo for it.
The battle mode (not combat the area mini game) in Xenogears was awesome! It also had a versus mode aswell! Thats all I remember from Xenogears and I have Xenosaga 1 and 2 but I have never played either.
There’s a Xenosaga 3 version of this that sounds fucking amazing. It was used in a secret dungeon in XS3. If I find it, I’ll replace the link. Xenosaga 3 had a ton of Xenogears remixes, and most sounded better than the originals.
Only thing that blows me about XS3 is that some of the best songs were missing from the official soundtrack, and the BEST song in the game is not on it. It’s not even in the extra soundtrack that was released with all the missing songs from the 1st soundtrack. WARNING: For peeps that haven’t played Xenosaga and want to play it sometime in the future, don’t click the following link. Major spoilers abound that will probably ruin the entire trilogy for you. You’ve been warned. .

I would recommend playing all the Xeno games just for the music. Yasunori Mitsuda composed for the 1st game and Kajiura composed the cutscene music for the 2nd, and composed all for the 3rd.
Edit: It’s a shame that the Xenosaga series wasn’t as good as it could’ve been. It had mad potential. But I heard that the creators/developers lost creative control, which apparently happened to Xenogears as well… might be part of the reason why disc 2 was not good. This sounds kinda like the same shit that went down at Infinity Ward.
Yeah I never actually played XS3 and just never got around to getting the music. I have no doubt it’s great though.
It’s sad that Mitsuda didn’t seem to try that hard for XS1 cause XG’s music overall is my favorite from all of the Xeno games. His stuff is just so amazing.
Yeah, now, because of square we will always have an incomplete game. Fucking square.
i remember that xenosaga was supposed to be 6 parts, with xenogears being part 5… it would’ve been interesting to see how it played out. a xenogears remake/remix with some of the more successful systems brought up in other games would’ve been interesting…
but yeah. potential and potential lost. and i also don’t see how people hate the cutscenes… you’ll battle your way through hella battles, and then you get to sit back and unwind and let the story develop. and it’s not like they were bad (outside of voice acting…) some were damn exciting, especially any scene where kos=mos just decides to fuck shit up… you cannot hate on xenosaga for cutscenes and then support xenogears, because 5 minutes of walls of text are far less engrossing than 15 minute cutscenes.
Yeah. I fell asleep a lot during Xenogears due to all the text and cut scenes. None of it was remotely interesting to me. I don’t even remember most the characters. Pretty unmemorable game to me.
Anyways, my HRAP3 SA comes in tomorrow so I’ll be able to play fighters again. Brush up on SFIV before Super comes out and before I leave for Seattle in May.
Been playing through the Ratchet and Clank games again. Too good.
People don’t want to play Quentin Tarantino films.
