Ok I bought Prince of Persia and played a little bit of it just now.
I’m definitely going to like this. Alot.
And holy fuck is Elka (sp?) ever god damn sexy. I mean seriously one of the sexiest video game chicks I’ve ever seen. Wow.

She is hot. If she was real I’d marry her. The best thing is she’s well written too, she’s not just sexy.
Also for anyone asking about SSFIV load times I guess the preview builds have really long load times but the final builds are much better.
Mine is don’t play it.
Just cause 2.

Can anybody explain to me why anybody actually cares about trophies?
They let your friends know how far you are into a game. Also, it’s fun to look over you rpofile and see all of the things you got done, laid out in front of you.
Other than that, they don’t have a point.
Well, in my opinion, some people just like to collect them, sometimes trophies can make you play a game in an entirely different way, sometimes they’re just bragging rights to show you did some completely difficult objective successfully, and sometimes it’s just an extra thing. Trophies have made me do multiple playthroughs of games before and made me play differently. Personally, I like doing something different to get one. To me, if I get them all, it’s like I got all that I paid for out of it, that’s just me though. If you enjoy doing things for trophies, why not. You paid for the game and they’re there if you want them. Trophies are just an extra thing.
Personally, I enjoy some of the challenges that the trophies present. E.G., the timed runs in Prince of Persia, I had fun working out the most efficient ways to get from point A to point B, and then actually doing it.
I also like to look and get an idea of overall progress in the game. I mean I guess it’s not always true, but normally it’s safe to assume that if you get a platinum, you’ve done everything there is to do in that game. It’s like in the old RPG’s, knowing that you got all the ultimate weapons and hidden summons (FF series is what I’m thinking) etc was an accomplishment, now there’s actually recognition for it.
I guess it’s similar to speed runs, or condition runs - e.g., play though Mega Man with only the Mega Buster. It’s fun to attempt, and some of the games set those sorta goals for you.
It’s also nice to track progress with friends. E.G., I’ve been able to get a rough idea of where a few guys on my friends list are in FFXIII’s storyline by checking their trophies, that way when I talk to them, I don’t go “OH HEY DID YOU GET TO THE PART WHERE AERITH DIED? No? Shit, I feel like a dick now. My bad, bro.”
yeah i use trophies to track my friends progress, becuz he’s a constant liar. he told me he was up to chapter 12 in ff13 already but 2 days ago he was in chapter 4. Pull up the trophies and he isnt even that far. lol.
Just finished up a gaming binge I started on Thursday. I finished up a couple of games that I knew I was close for awhile, but never had a chance to sit down and finish. Also started and finished GOW 3 as well.
1st game I finished up was Heavenly Sword, I was about 2 levels until the end, then Halo 3 came out . . .
2nd game I finished up was Resistance 2, I picked the the Collectors edition cheap at Best Buy with a few other games a few weeks back. I played it off and on during the weekends and I finally finished Saturday afternoon.
3rd game was the epic GOW3 once I started the game I just couldn’t put it down, went to bed at 2 am and began playing again at 8am which I finished after an hour or so of playing.
Some thoughts of the games:
Heavenly Sword was a pretty good game for what it was. It should be definitely be played once, it had big production values as seen by the cut scenes and game still looks great even though it was released back in 2007. Shame that there isn’t a sequel in the works, that would have been a perfect time to fix issues like the repetitive enemies, the constant clear a room before moving forward and the mostly linear type feel to the game. You can tell that most of the effort went into making the game look great and the game mechanics were 2nd fiddle.
Resistance 2 game was fun to play due to the crazy weapons Insomniac implemented in the game. The levels felt epic and a lot of tense moments in the game. However, story wise I felt disconnected, I just didn’t really care for the character at all and it felt all over the place. I miss how in part 1 there was a narrative on what was going on, but it could be just me. However, I was like WTF!!! at the end though.
Finally, GOW3 what more can I say but this game is just non-stop action. I did have some issues with the flying scenarios and the final confrontation with Zeus wasn’t as epic as I thought it would be. Either way the game was simply fun and I enjoyed mostly every thing the game had to offer, what a way to end a excellent trilogy.
Next game on my list will be Heavy Rain, but that might wait since I plan on playing Splinter Cell Conviction this week as well.
I brought up that question cause there’s a constant stream of people who message me after MvC2 calling me a noob because I don’t collect trophies after I beat them.
It just confused me that some people equated the trophies to actual skill.
No kidding.
I guess you can say “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure”. But in this case, the game was straight up garbage.
I remember back in high school I wrote a 10 page report on what I think is wrong with Xenogears.
And hell yeah I went all depth in that motha’ fucker. Teacher knew I was not messin’ around when she saw that stack a papers about a game not many people knew but loved for some odd reason!
WTF is with these people liking awful RPGs >_<
Fuck man…
Wake me up when Tri-Ace does not fuck up another Star Ocean! :bluu:
Legend of Legaia.
i think people like to romanticize xenogears too much. in the end, the battle system isn’t deep at all, the characters and storyline aren’t very memorable, the religion imagery it tries to convey is convoluted and disc 2 is reading literally reading a book with random battles inbetween.
i’d go as far to say that xenosaga > xenogears… i can at least have fun with xenosaga, and i can sit back and watch cutscenes instead of sitting through 10 minutes of text walls.
and i’d just like to say, resonance of fate needs to hold your hand a little bit more in the beginning… it took me about an hour to finally understand what the fuck was going on.
Legend of Dragoon, motherfucker.
Legend of Legaia.
Beyond the Beyond

I personally don’t believe this, but I read somewhere that trophies help promote the longevity of the game. Since there are “goals” which are not part of the game’s primary aspect, a consumer will spend more time on that game trying to attain all the trophies.

Believe it
It doesn’t apply to everyone, but does have some effect on people. In the past when a game was multiplatform I read 100s of times guys saying they would buy it on 360 because of achievements vs not getting anything out of the PS3 version even though they are technically the same game before PS3 had trophy support.
I won’t go out and buy Hannah Montana for trophies, but will see which ones might be simple in a game I own and try to get it, like kicking 50 dogs in GOW3. Instead of just hitting them with blades, I started to kick them everytime instead.
Yeah, achievements are pretty much expected these days. Even games that aren’t on consoles that require achievements have achievements, like SMT: Strange Journey. Achievements can be cool because they may make you play a game in an way that you might not have intended, but ends up being interesting.

That’s a very good example. Another was, getting counterhit KILLS in Dante’s Inferno. I did counterhits all the time in the game, but not very often as the killing blow. So then after I realized the trophy, I killed those annoying bat things with projectile counterhits every chance that I could.
Sure, it’s not for everyone… but like I said, I personally enjoy having the additional “goals” in games, especially considering that games appear to be getting shorter all the time now. Not that there’s a lack of good games to consume my time, but still.
Seperate note, but FFXIII is fun. I’m enjoying the paradigm system quite a bit. The whole crystarium thing seems a little silly, but it’s similar to the sphere grid from X, so it can’t be all that bad.
